Walked in midday on a cold Wednesday. Place was completely dead. Ordered a Smashburger and tots to go. A pretty solid burger IMO. Some of the other menu items seem a little overpriced tho. Gives off Cheers bar vibes as in it's a cozy place to warm up over a libation from the cold. I know this place has had a lot of turnover in recent years. Aura looks promising tho.

My first night in DC and this is exactly how you're supposed to start it…read more A friend brought me to Thurst for birthday weekend vibes, and from the moment I walked in, the energy felt intentional and warm. The purple neon lighting creates this sultry, intimate atmosphere without being overwhelming. It's the kind of place where you can actually connect, laugh, and still feel like you're outside living. The music was a vibe. Smooth R&B blended with some Jamaican flavor and nostalgic cuts that made the room feel alive. It wasn't chaotic; it was curated. The sound set the tone without overpowering the experience. What stood out most was how comfortable the space felt. Beautiful crowd, welcoming energy, and that perfect balance between lounge and nightlife. It's not just somewhere you go to be seen; it's somewhere you go to feel good. Perfect first stop for my DC weekend. I'd absolutely return.

I'm sure when it's peak time it's live in there so I'll have to come back for an event. Went around noon on a Sunday and it was fairly empty so we sat at the bar and were serviced immediately. Strawberry lemon drop - 10/10 - I love a good lemon drop but a I'll never pass up a flavored one. No notes. Shrimp & Grits - 5/10 - don't get me wrong it was GOOD but it was too rich/cheesy to me. I don't know what I was expecting in terms of cheese but I've never had soooooo much cheese in an order of shrimp and grits. I legit pulled a mound of cheese off the top and it was still too much. I couldn't finish this unfortunately, even taking them home for another day didn't work because I couldn't take the richness. Not a slight to them, just a no for me. There was a great amount of shrimp in the dish and the consistency of the grifts were amazing. Just need something to cut through the richness. My friend had: Omelette - 10/10 - said they enjoyed it and would get it again Side of bacon - 10/10 - you got 6 pieces with the order and that was solid to me. I'd definitely come back and try something else on their brunch menu if given the chance. It's a bit out the way so I couldn't see myself traveling for it but if I was in the area I definitely would come back.

Just one other group of me, maybe some jazz music in the background, while we watched Basketball on the screen Best part about SOBEs was Mrs. Elaine, the bartendar. I would rate the food a 2.5/5. I had the shrimp tacos, which lacked flavor. The shrimp was bland. The Bang Bang shrimp was lacked flavor also. We barely touched these, so disappointing. People started showing up @ 7pm. which was $20 to get in. An AMAZING live cover band played at 9pm. By 7:45 pm, there was also a live DJ playing classic hip hop and RnB. That was such a VIBE! The crowd got really thick for the band, you literally had to push your way to the bathrooms. Bathrooms also need napkins to dry your hands with, instead of the nasty air hand dryers

We started with the Oysters Rockefeller, which were rich and flavorful, followed by the Grand Marnier Society Wings--a standout appetizer with a great balance of sweet and savory flavors. The Mac & Cheese was creamy and made for the perfect side. For our entrées, we ordered the Calypso Pan Seared Branzino and the Coconut Curry Snapper. Both dishes were served with vegetables of the day, rice and peas, and sweet plantains, creating a well-rounded and satisfying meal. The seafood was cooked well, and the Caribbean-inspired flavors added a unique twist to each dish. For drinks, we enjoyed The Pearl, the Lavender French 75, The Golden Hour, and an Old Fashioned. Each cocktail was well-crafted and paired nicely with the menu. We finished with the Warm Cookie Skillet, topped with vanilla bean ice cream and a caramel drizzle. It arrived warm, gooey, and was the perfect dessert to share. Beyond the food, the renovated space feels modern and inviting, making it a great option for date nights, celebrations, or a night out with friends. If you're looking for an elevated seafood experience with Caribbean-inspired flavors, Society Seafood is worth checking out.

We arrived 45 mins before our reservation to have a drink before dinner but the matre d' was very accomodating and seated us immediately in the barl which made us very happy. He was very attentive and appeared quite knowledgeable about cocktails and we thoroughly enjoyed our pre-dinner drinks. Our waitress was very pleasant, though we did feel a bit rushed when she encouraged us to order our appetizers and entrees at the same time. We also felt a high level of pretense when my friend asked if the goat cheese could be left off his burger and we were told "The chef doesn't like to do that." Likewise, when the waitress was taken aback when asked for catsup with our fries. Following an eye roll, we were told, "We don't serve catsup." Those small things could be easily be over looked, and had the evening ended the way it began, we would have been very happy. We were already discussing who among our friends "would love this place." But after dinner I ordered a Cuban rum I had never heard of, just to try it, and the bottle, which was all but empty, was left on the table. It was one of at least three bottles on the table, including the Irish whisky my friend ordered, and a re-purposed whiskey bottle which contained drinking water. Another friend grabbed my rum bottle, thinking it was the water (it was white rum), and before we could stop her, she had poured the remainder of the bottle into her water glass. She quickly called over the matre d' to explain her mistake. He said, "well that happens, that will be $45." He seemed sure there had been three ounces of rum left in the bottle, though. He would not here our objections or explanations, and insisted we owed $45. Our meal and cocktails that evening came to just over $500 without this extra charge. A quick internet search found this bottle of rum retails for about $60, a price well above what I am sure a restaurant would pay. The matre d' s intransigence, regarding what clearly was an honest mistake, ruined what had truly been a fun evening. We honestly had intended to go back with at least one other group of friends; now I doubt we will ever return.

Happy hour (3-7) offers beers ranging $1-3, wine $4-6, $7 margs, and I think a few other drink specials, but those options were good enough for me and I went with the wine. Service was a little slow at first, but the one bartender working was friendly and cheerful and doing her best to keep up with everyone until another two eventually showed up or came back from break. Atmosphere was really chill. I liked the dim lighting, everyone was casual and relaxed with a dj setting up in the corner, some hip hop and classic 00s rap bumping, and a steady flow of young-ish friend groups coming in for cheap beer around 5pm. I tried not to evesdrop on the couple next to me at the bar arguing, but their fight sort of added to the entertainment and general vibe. On the other side of me was an adorable couple unsuspectedly ordering fruity drinks and laughing. Totally will be back whenever the end of my work day brings me to this area.
