I absolutely love this place. After each visit, I'm usually thinking about my next visit. First, the Tiki Room has a pretty extensive tiki drink menu, and my favorite beverage so far is the Saturn. They are willing to modify your beverage to your liking. Unfortunately, the Saturn is not served in a fun Tiki mug; however, my waitresses always have been happy to let me know that they are willing to tell the bartender to prepare my beverage in a fun mug. Also, I love gin, but the restaurant has only 2-3 gin-based drinks. However, the waitress told me that I could substitute gin for the Tiki drinks. It appears that this restaurant is a favorite by locals. One cool thing that I've noticed during my visits is that many of the regulars are on a first name basis with the staff. In addition to being on a first name basis, the staff and some customers seem to know quite a bit about each other. To me, this interaction is amazing! Why? It shows that many customers have been dining at the restaurant for so long that they have formed somewhat substantial relationships with the staff. Although we are not regulars...yet, the owners were very friendly and chatty with us, especially during the visit when we sat at the bar. Since it has been a while from my last visit to writing my review, I've forgotten what I ordered my visits, but I remember enjoying the food on both visits. During one visit, I ordered the branzino, which was one of the specials for the day, and I remember wanting to order another order because it was so delicious. Very extensive tiki drink menu with something for everyone. We ordered pork and shrimp dumplings. Both were excellent. Clearly a lot of regulars frequent this bar/restaurant and we were told by multiple patrons that there isn't a bad dish on the menu. We came here for the Tiki Bar which is not separately advertised. It's at the back of the Chinese restaurant. Although there is nothing dividing the two there is a distinctly different feel at the bar. Great tasting cocktails although not all classically prepared. They were all well balanced and the Black Magic particularly had the right amount of coffee flavor. Also enjoyed some meaty pork spareribs, some shrimp dumplings and edamame. Servers were attentive and friendly and the owner was constantly walking around making sure everyone was happy. Would definitely go back. read more

Time travel back to the Cheever-esque, Mad Men era, in suburban Chevy Chase. The Tiki Room is perfect for what it is. The place is located in a Chinese restaurant. Not like a separate bar, it is literally in the restaurant. I'm not even sure there's a sign for it outside. But they make great, inexpensive tiki drinks. The decor is tacky to a T, as it should be. So maybe I'm kinda slow, but it took me walking to the literal front door of this place and squinting at the menu to realize that "The Tiki Room" doesn't exist. Oh, it exists, mind you, but it's what they call the bar in be back of the House of Foong Lin Chinese Restaurant. That said, they have good Chinese food and a fun drink menu. It seems to be very popular with locals and the bar filled up quickly as the afternoon got closer to dinner time. I feel like you definitely need to wear a fun camp / Hawaiian shirt when you come to make the experience that much better. The service was good and the drinks were good as well as the food. i came down the street for an event to which they were serving only beer, womp womp. so i found this place via yelp and it happened to thursday which is when they have drink specials until close. for those who dont know this bar is within a chinese restaurant called the house of foong lin. i am really big fan of mai tai's, so i was pretty surprised to find this place even existed. i am so happy i found this place!! there are three drinks which are on $ six dollar list. the drinks are quite strong. i was expected watered fruity punch. this was nothing like that i got a mai tai bamboo zombie all of them were excellent!!! i would love to come back to try some their other more complex drinks but these were excellent i did not get any food ambiance: i think this another selling point, everyone was super friendly and welcoming. the guys who started the whole tiki night were there and so was owner, all the bartenders were very nice . i could not have asked for a friendlier crowd price: incredible! great deal parking street or garage, a bit hard to find for free though overall: yes!!!! read more

It's like Tiki Valhalla. Have you ever gone to an event and never wanted it to end? This was like that. My wife and I took a birthday trip to the DC area last week. Being sorta novices on the tiki scene we scheduled the trip to coincide with Tiki Thursday at House of Foong Lin to check it out. This proved to pretty much ruin any other tiki experience for us in the future. It was like attending a party where everyone knew each other and you were the newbies. That lasted about 15 seconds. We were immediately welcomed with a booming, "Aloha!" from Jeff, founder of the event. He told us the history of the room, the nuances of the drink menu and introduced the regulars before meandering around the room. Pete came up and introduced himself as did Bryan and Sean. Pretty soon we were in a room full of new friends, great food and tasty concoctions. This was one of the most pleasant surprises/great birthday treats I can remember. I was treated to a great piece of mango cake and a song from the room (and a wonderful act of kindness from Pete). It was one of those rare nights you wish lasted longer. I stuck with the Sneaky Tiki and my wife had the Tiki Barrel. Both very tasty and got you there quick. Oh, of you have your own tiki mug, bring it. Everyone else (but us) did. The room was full on tiki with the bamboo walls, soft lights from the ceiling, blow fish decorations and South Pacific on the big TV behind the bar. TLDR: If you can swing it, do yourself a favor and go have a nice dinner, sample the drinks and make some new pals in this great little place. read more

I don't blame it on our server at all, she was sweet & did her best with a super busy Saturday night. I think either a better sections to server ratio or cutting down the distance they have to go might make service better.
