I was a bit skeptical coming here well actually more so because I had no idea what to expect but after my first meet up with this amazing dr. I was convinced I was going to be good. I spent about 25minutes with this doctor and she was able to tell me what I needed after several ER visits to kaiser I had given up. I completed my remedy in 7days and let me tell you I don't know what was worse if it's the tea or the pills but i felt so much better right away so went back for my follow up and walked out with 14 day supply just finished that two days ago and YES that medicine works!!!! I'm ashamed to say that I waited this long to write a review. My husband and I have been seeing Serena (Herbologist) for years and years (20 - ?). We started when she was at her previous Chinatown location. We've told countless friends and family about her. Bar none, whether they are Chinese or non-Chinese, they all love and rave about her, and became regular clients. You cannot find a better, more knowledgeable, and truly caring herbologist. At her previous Chinatown location, it was first-come, first-served. Even then Serena was known as an excellent herbologist, and very popular. At the prior location, I remember clearly this one time I got there about 20 minutes before they opened, on a Saturday. There was already another Chinese woman waiting. Shortly after I got there, another Chinese woman arrived; she had the audacity to tell the first woman that she should be first as she had arrived earlier but decided to walk around! Remember - these are traditional Chinese women, who can be a bit pushy. So when the door was just about to open, my husband allowed the first woman to enter, body blocked the other woman while flinging me inside. He did so so aggressively that I was unprepared and almost fell flat on my face. I then rushed to the queue of chairs. I'm not sure about the wisdom of sharing this story -- but whenever I remember what happened, I have to smile. Serena is THAT POPULAR. The queue of chairs usually rapidly fill up. Because Serena never rushes the client, and takes as long as needed, you may be waiting a bit of time. Unlike our regular MDs, who have their foot out the door within 10-15 minutes, while you're still trying to talk to them. Knowing this, in her prior location, it was always best to get there as early as possible. Thanks goodness -- at her current location, appointments and free parking are now available. But still, expect a wait, as, again, Serena, never rushes the client. I will share a particular telling visit of exactly how good Serena is: My husband and I like to go in to see Serena, and deliberately NOT TELL HER WHY WE'RE THERE. On this one occasion, we were there for my husband. He patiently waited while she checked his pulses and his tongue. THEN WE LIKE TO HEAR HER TELL US WHAT'S WRONG. Remember: we've said nothing about why my husband came in. EVERY SINGLE TIME, she gets it right. We find it amazing and spooky how accurate she is. She said that there's issues with his right leg and lower back. THAT'S EXACTLY WHY HE CAME TO HER :) When we first started seeing her, my husband and I would find it fascinating to try to identify the many strange and unique ingredients (tree bark, herbs, etc) that were wrapped in the thick pink paper. * Originally, we had to boil / simmer the ingredients on the stove top. This, admittedly, stunk up the house. * Then we discovered the herb pots, which automatically shut off when the herbs were sufficiently cooked. This gave us the option of putting the pot outside so we just stunk up the neighborhood and not inside the house :) * Then they had the option, for a small fee, of having a third party boil / simmer the ingredients, and put the liquid in plastic sealed bags. But we had to come back for it 4 hours later. We liked this option the best though it meant another long drive. With the pandemic, we are so very glad Serena and Hip Woo Hong has survived. To help them stay in business, we like like to buy ready-made packaged pills (e.g., Po Chai for tummy ailments and Ganmao Ling for colds / flu) from them, even though it means traveling all the way to Chinatown to do so. Notably, if you buy a case of pills (I think it's 10 in a box), you get 1 extra free. So, my apologies to Serena and her staff (a particular shout-out to Ping) for taking so long to do this review. ===== PS: For the awful negative review by "Soraya S", I would have to wonder about the legitimacy of the review. I've lived with severe asthma my entire life. Western medicine wasn't cutting it. Dr. Serena told me that my lungs were severely congested but I felt fine. After taking the herbal medicine for a few months my lung capacity expanded at least 20%. Serena said that my lungs were weak and that now that they were clear of congested, I needed to go out and run to strengthen them. I hadn't been able to run for years and when I hit the track I was able to run so much better. I lost a lot of weight because I was able to do cardio without gasping for air. I owe Dr. Serena my life and I recommend that you try her if Western medicine isn't working. The medicine tastes horrible and is not for the faint of heart. Serena has really helped me. I went to her because I was feeling sluggish and I've always had horrible indigestion since I was a kid. She gave me this tea that I was supposed to drink for 14 days - it was so awful that I could only stomach one glass. We found this place through a referral from my mom's Church friend she said that her whole family sees this acupuncturist and she's referred several friends and none have been disappointed so we took a venture out towards ChinaTown to see this acupuncturist. First the parking is free but in the back. The lot is small but it is two floors. Hip woois towards the front so after you park you'll have to walk the for this down the walkway. It is on your right and when you walk in and kind of looks like a store to your left and a Chinese Pharmacy to your right. The waiting area is on the right and they call your name when it is your turn. We saw the acupuncturist who did not needle me. She gave me a formula for a week. I'm sure the price varies but mine was quite expensive it was $144 per week. I understand why it's expensive because they are taking the time to make it and individual seal the packages. The acupuncturist is really nice and knowledgable. I have had acupuncture done yet but i like that she didnt take advantage of me and just gave it to me when i didnt need it. read more
