It tells potential students to reach out to the instructor before taking a class. The purpose of a website / marketing is to make it easier for the consumer to do business with you. No other studios do this. I just showed up for the first class and luckily saw another student who showed me where the entrance is. I've seen others do the same. Coco is warm and welcoming. Mark is off-putting and rude to most newcomers. It also lacks all basic information and policies you expect to see on a dance studio website - there is no bathroom, dressing rooms etc. There are no class policies, payment information, prices, anti-harassment policies, processes for how to report incidents. Customers are treated differently - I've seen some told to use the owner's bathroom in her home while others told to go across the street to the park. Communications are poor and myself and other students have driven a long way to attend class only to find out class was cancelled. Be prepared for mixed messages. I had been going there 4-5 times a week for a year and received nothing but positive feedback. I always felt welcome there. Out of the blue I received the nastiest, rudest, most threatening email from the owner I've ever received. For months she wouldn't give me a reason and refused to have a conversation about it like any reasonable person / business owner would have done in her position. It was insulting, rude and unnecessary. Not to mention completely passive aggressive. If there were a problem, wouldn't you pull them aside after class to chat or set-up time for a discussion? No, straight to threats. Please note: Coco is one of the best teachers I've ever studied with and this review/rating no way reflects on her. She is professional, communicates well, is patient and creates a true no judgement environment to learn in. She is also one of the best sources of information on tap. She truly wants to see her students grow. And she offers a true intro to tap class for adults which is difficult to find in any style of dance. I have not had the opportunity to study with Joseph or Lynn but have heard only good things.

I was looking for a place that had technically skilled instructors AND a warm, welcoming environment. This is not easy to find. Often with teachers of this caliber and training, you find a competitive and cold culture which doesn't work for my daughter or for me. The Floor couldn't be further from this. The Studio Director must place high importance on cultural fit because every single person we've worked with here is top-notch - helpful, attentive and just a good human. The Floor is a wonderful place - it honestly feels like family. My daughter loves it here so much that she's taking 3 classes a week. Even teachers who have never taught her know her by name, and they know me too! It's just that kind of place. I can't recommend it highly enough.

A Heartfelt Thank You to Miss Alice and Her Incredible Team…read moreMy daughter, now 11 years old, has been taking weekly classes with Miss Alice and her amazing instructors since she was just four. When she first began, she was incredibly shy--so much so that she wouldn't even go up on stage with the other children. In those early months, I found myself dancing alongside her, offering reassurance, and to my surprise, the teachers welcomed it with open arms. Looking back, I am beyond grateful for the community that Miss Alice has built, the friendships my daughter has made, and most of all, the confidence and love for dance that have blossomed within her. This program has not only taught her dance but has instilled in her a sense of camaraderie, resilience, and self-assurance that extends far beyond the studio. Each year, Miss Alice organizes an end-of-year performance, which used to take place at the Topanga Community Center, where the space would overflow with excited families and supportive friends. Seeing children as young as two years old all the way to teenagers performing with such joy and confidence in front of an audience is a true testament to the nurturing and encouraging environment Alice and her instructors create. When the pandemic struck, Alice didn't miss a beat--quickly transitioning classes to Zoom and later holding them in a park. Her dedication to these children and her unwavering passion for dance never wavered, and for that, I have the utmost respect for her and her company, Dance with Miss Alice. For the past three years, my daughter has also had the incredible opportunity to participate in Miss Alice's "Dance the Dream" classes, which prepare students to dance in the Disneyland parade. Words cannot fully express the pride and joy she feels at the end of that magical day--and as parents, we feel it just as deeply. I look forward to watching my daughter continue dancing with Miss Alice for many years to come. So with less than 7 weeks to go and now squeezing in dance lessons?! Lorena reassured us right away that we had enough time and that we could find a dance that suited us. Even after two lessons, I still couldn't visualize this rounding out into a final product; we were just learning steps and drilling it in our muscle memory. In the final two lessons, that's where it all came together. She choreographed everything from walking on to the dance floor to the end of just sitting down at the sweetheart's table. One thing we added was the bride carrying the bouquet and passing it off before we got into starting position. Lorena is warm, enthusiastic, passionate, and encouraging. You will perform under her gaze and expect to be tired! She gives awesome constructive advice from technical movements to optical flair, challenges you, and shares her wisdom expertly. Practice dancing in a big studio while being watched definitely helps to avoid stage fright. I also took body posture and grace cues from her. I gained confidence and felt more natural when walking down the aisle. The real 100: a positive attitude and time commitment are vital. She's not of the spirit world; she's not going to possess your body and do the dance for you. It's important to practice 5 minutes or more (semi) daily between lessons! Do this and trust in Lorena's words - you won't go wrong!

The words hereafter are my attempt to capture what a spectacular educator and excellent human being Lorena is.  Great teachers can ignite the imagination and rekindle a love of learning.  In this regard, history will soon show that Lorena Bravo is one of the greatest dance instructors of our generation. An endlessly curious student herself, Lorena has studied and continues to study dance from every angle imaginable. Training with other top competitive ballroom dancers isn't enough. Lorena actively studies books on human anatomy and physics in order to understand how different movements affect different body shapes. She also continues to expand her mastery of teaching through not only studying psychology and education theory but by applying it as she teaches people with varying levels of dance ability from limited movement up to professional competitive dancers.  The best part of all of that is that you don't see all of it. Rather, you feel it. Lorena has the empathetic insight to connect with you and meet you wherever you are in your learning process. As you learn about dance, she learns about how you learn best.  Do you learn best by just trying it and being corrected on the fly? Or do you need to take each move slowly and be set like a mannequin? Perhaps you just want to have fun with some friends and want to impress them with a few moves? Or maybe you're on a tight schedule and just need to memorize a choreography? Whatever it may be, Lorena crafts a learning plan just for you based on your needs and resources.  And yet, more important than all of that hullaballoo, is that Lorena makes both the dancing and the learning endlessly euphoric and utterly rewarding. She truly and deeply loves dance, art, music, science and all forms of human expression. Her passion is contagious. Her joy is uplifting. The depth of her expanding knowledge is matched only by the depth of her encompassing heart. You get the sense of your world expanding just by conversing with her.  If you're not yet convinced then I will share a bit of my own story and how Lorena has affected my life.  I entered my PhD studies in the pursuit of a machine that could translate thoughts and emotions from person to computer then to another person. At that point in my life, I had struggled tremendously with expressing and connecting with others. What initially started as an easy way to decompress after hours of research became a life changing path to my own late development in expression. Lorena has instilled in me an almost unsettling love for dance and the learning of it. My body will wither with time, but for the rest of my life,  my heart will always remember what it feels like to be tetherless and free, existing only as motion and music for moments at a time. Yes, I have put in the work to achieve that, but I will always have Lorena to thank for changing the course of my life.

I really got a great work out (however athletic you might be, you will work up a sweat) and I still use plenty of moves I learned in class when I dance. My favorite part is the cultural knowledge that she brings- what she teaches us is in context of her experience and we better understand dance as cultural expression.
