To start, I had a chicken and cheese empanada, and a mango mojito. For the entree I had fried pork chops, with Trifongo (mixture of green plantain, yucca and sweet plantain), rice and beans, and tostones. Since I was staying at a hostel, I ordered enough to have leftovers for the next day. This place became more crowded as the early evening came on. I arrived around 6pm. We went on a final excursion for food before we headed back to the states. We were so glad we found these kiosk and food places over here. This one in particular was just a gut feeling, and it left my gut very HAPPY! This place was not busy when we arrived but by the time we left it was hopping! The service at first was a little questionable due to my limited spanish, but we found a way to communicate effectively and ended up ordering a bunch of different items and a couple of drinks. The place is an open walled restaurant right off the road and the view is ever changing. There is no doubt this is authentic Puerto Rican fare. We were watching them prepare these items over open flames and open wood fired grills. Overall the service was excellent even with language barriers! All of the food we tried from fresh shrimp, to candied papaya and barbeque chicken from the grill. Everything was delicious. We loved going to this restaurant near pinones. We ordered, oysters, snapper, chicken bbq, octopus and ceviche. Excellent flavor, not overpowering, and we felt the seafood was fairly fresh. My favorite was the oysters, which were large and great with a lime. Everyone else liked the fish and octopus as well. We had fresh coconut as well, which was nice but it wasn't as flavorful as I've had elsewhere (It may not be in season right now). Would 100% recommend a visit! I stopped here while in Loiza waiting to pick someone up from the airport. It is across the street from Pinones beach. I got there about 11a.m. on a Sunday and it was not busy. By 12:30 they were packed and had someone directing parking which helped a lot of people. The fried park was tasty but half was juicy and half was dry and overcooked. The conch was delicious and the dozen Oysters are definitely worth the thirty bucks. It's very casual, my daughter and I sat under a fan far from the smoking hot grills. The waitress was sweet and attentive. She spoke minimal English which was ok since the menu had English. I love the area with all the little shops. Traffic can be a bit heavy in the area. read more

This is by far one of the memorable food experiences I have had in San Juan. The menu was mostly in spanish, so we just ordered various fried food...and it was amazing! For uncultured gringos like me, the alcapurria is a small fried dough bar with meat on the inside and it is great. The pincho is a large kabob that is to die for. The pinono is a plantain made fried dough with meat on the inside and is amazing. Pastelillos are empanadas with meat on the inside and a must try! There are plenty of restaurants in the area but this one had the best looking Chicken Skewers (Pincho Pollo) on display so we decided to give them a try. We had had a long day driving around the island exploring the different spots and were looking for something solid to eat. We were also craving something lighter than all of the (red) meat that we'd been having, so when Hipi Cache popped up, I was excited to do seafood. The seating reminds you of other developing country set ups (think SEAsia and Latinx American outdoor food halls). Though it wasn't fully occupied, the restaurant was busy and the servers were attentive. We seated ourselves and immediately ordered Pina Coladas (yummy, good balance of rum and fruit) because...why not? One thing to note also is that seating yourselves and seating immediately has been a bit difficult in PR because of COVID, so we were happy for this quick service. After getting recommendations from the very sweet waitress, we ordered: Mofongo stuffed with Shrimp; fish ceviche with mofongo; arepas with mixed seafood; and the highly celebrated fried red snapper with duofongo. To be honest, everything was amazing, though the arepas came very different than expected -- the arepas were more biscuit like than I'm used to, so it was difficult to open it up to put the seafood inside. The fish ceviche was plentiful and extremely fresh, while the mofongo with shrimp was exactly as you'd expect it -- tasty and umami. The standout dish however, was indeed the fried red snapper -- it was not greasy or oily and the fish was clearly caught recently. There's nothing really I can find fault with this place, though if you prefer a proper sit down restaurant with four walls, you might be disappointed. read more

This restaurant has very good food! It's casual, open air (no AC but it catches the breeze well and is shaded from the sun), and a perfect place to get lunch or dinner when you're leaving the beach! We had ceviche, ponchos de pollo, pestelillos de pollo, and more, everything was so good! I accidentally left my phone at the restaurant like a dummy, I didn't even realize it until I was back at the hotel. I called an uber to go back and on the way called my phone from my girlfriend's phone - an employee answered and said he had my phone safe behind the bar and would onto it for me until I got back. 20 minutes later, I returned and got my phone back from a nice guy at the bar! We were there for about 2 1/2 hrs waiting. (OThe only reason we waited was because it was highly recommended by more than one person in the island and we were starving. I took a drive through Pinones and carefully selected where I wanted to eat. I based my decision on the yelp reviews and I must say I was a bit disappointed. The waiter was great, however , I waited an hour for my food and got one excuse after another. There were only two of us eating and the restaurant was not completely full so I couldn't quite understand the delay. I had the mofongo with shrimp and it was good not great. My son had the shrimp with rice and he really enjoyed it. When the receipt came there were items that were listed that I did not order. This place really allowed me to get the authentic feel of the island. The food was fresh and the drinks were great. The only complain we have is for the food wait time. We ordered appetizers before our meal which is what we advise others to do since the main dish will take up to 40 minutes to an hour to come out. We also had to flag down the waitress numerous times.
