This is a classic chinchorro spot, so we went straight for the fried stuff: a bacalaito and two pastelillos (langosta y carne). The pastelillos were the real stars--perfectly crunchy, flaky, and stuffed with well-seasoned fillings. Our server accidentally broke the carne one and, without missing a beat, threw in an extra on the house. That kind of easygoing generosity is exactly the vibe you want from a roadside spot. The bacalaito had great flavor, though I'd have loved a little more crunch on it. Service was friendly and fast throughout. All of this (food, drinks, tax, and tip) came in under $25. The food was mediocre. It was difficult to order as one whole side of their menu was unavailable, as was things from the ala cart side, such as conch fritters and French fries. Food was called as it was made and they cross it off your receipt, so do not expect to eat as a family. We ordered 8 items, but only for 5. 3 orders were not provided and it was difficult to communicate that our food wasn't provided. (They call your name as they make one or two things) I After much confused discussion, it was determined that the receipt had blown away. The experience was "meh" at best. Would try anything else if I return to the area and wouldn't try this place again. My friends and I had just arrived in Puerto Rico and were excited to kick off our trip with some authentic frituras in Piñones. Unfortunately, this spot left us completely disappointed. We were seated by a waiter who initially seemed fine, but things quickly went downhill. We clearly ordered two of each fritura listed on the menu--alcapurrias, bacalaítos, pinchos, and papa rellenas--along with parcha juice and two alcoholic drinks. As native Spanish-speaking Hispanics from New York, we communicated clearly and politely in Spanish. What we got instead? Three plates of pastelitos--with no explanation of what was inside. We had to guess and smell to figure out the fillings, which turned out to include seafood (something not all of us eat). Thinking the rest of our order was still on the way, one of my friends approached the waiter--who was now sitting at the counter--to ask about the rest of the frituras. He dismissively told us that the pastelitos were the frituras we ordered, despite the fact that the menu clearly lists several distinct frituras, and pastelitos are not all of them. To make matters worse, we weren't even given plates or utensils. When we tried to clarify the issue, the waiter became rude and condescending, insisting he had fulfilled the order. At that point, we had enough. We paid our bill and left--$80 for 12 pastelitos, of which we only ate 5 due to the mystery fillings and poor service. Made to order street food! Tried their alcapurria (beef). Freshly made. It was confusing as far as how to order and get your food but we figured it out at the end from the kind patrons. You order at the cashier, pay, get a receipt and bring it to the area where they are cooking. They were kind enough to find us a phone charger too because we were waiting on the Uber and my friends phone was about to die! After a long tour of San Juan with still more to go and see before going back on the Carnival Celebration, my family stopped at Donde Olga for some snacks and refreshments. It was a hot day in San Juan, the first thing we wanted to get was some ice cold sodas. The way the restaurant operates is that you get in line to order at the counter and place your order, this is not a sit-down restaurant. The service during the ordering part is rather quick, even with the amount of regular customers it gets and the busload from our tour. We quickly got our sodas; it was a whole other thing when ordering the empanada for my brother. We sat down to wait for the empanada. We waited and waited, 20 minutes later we were still waiting. The tour guide had to go complain after we did as the restaurant has an understanding with the tour that they are supposed to get the food out quicker to them. Looks like there was some mix-up. This was really some authentic food. Be prepared to be sitting semi outside. There's a small parking lot out front and a lot of tables you can sit at. We came during the day so there weren't many people there yet. We were told the fish was fresh that day so that's exactly what we had ordered. It was delicious and seasoned to perfection as the skin was extra crispy yet not overly salty. The rice was good and it came with a side of salad. Something so simple but so good as it made me feel and realize that I'm on the island finally! The only downfall was it was super hot/humid - no AC or fans and there were a whole bunch of flies. I really wanted to like this place after a long drive back from the Ceiba ferry. Unfortunately we were very disappointed. First, the system for ordering is very confusing. We ordered under the "order here" sign. We then went to sit down and were told by a waiter that we were supposed give our receipt to the other station for them to make our food. We did that and received only half of our items. We went back up to ask where we initially ordered and our other items were on the counter. Don't know how long they were there but they were cold. We ordered the fried cod fritters, the alcapurrias, and the arepas. Nothing was good. The worst of everything was the arepas. The fritters were okay. We ended up throwing most of it away. before coming to PR I watched some videos on line of where are the best boric experiences out here. this kind of food is a must while visiting. it is well known that the fried food here is an attraction in itself and so I had no other choice but come by, I was lucky enough to have a local with me to bring me here as he told me this is one if not the best place to get this kind of food out in the area called pinones at the island. to get here was a bit of a challenge as the traffic in this island is a bit of a nightmare but once you are here the next little nightmare will be finding parking. this area is pretty busy it looked like. once we finally slaved those dragons of managing to get there and find parking, everything as forgiven. the way it works here is, they have these pic Nic style tables so people sit with strangers no problem, for ordering here they do not do table service so a line forms to order and then you give your receipt to the cooks who are frying the food right across from the cashier, as the food comes out they call your name for pick up. this restaurant has plenty of sitting all around and also keep in mind they only accept CASH here so make sure to bring some to have that gastronomic fun. now for what really matters: - MIDORI AND PINEAPPLE - I love sweet drinks so this was my drink of choice here. it was perfect in the sense that I felt like I was truly in a tropical vacation. - ALCAPURRIA - this is a fried yucca and platoon dough and they had several stuffings for it. * crab- AMAZING this one was by far the best one from the flavors I had, perfectly seasoned and not fishy at all. * beef - also real good but the meat had lacked a bit more flavor, on this one I felt more the flavor of the tough none the less a good item. - BACALAU - this fried cod fish with a yummy batter is a MUST when coming here, it is one of the best things they have to offer here. again if it is fried it will taste good for sure. this one appetizer is pretty amazing. - EMPANADA DE CAMARON- an empanada always has to happen, the shrimp in it was pretty good and it was a great amount of shrimp in this empanada very worth to try. -PIONONO- this one was my least favorite of the stuff we got, this little plantain ball stuffed with meat is pretty great for last as the ball itself is a bit sweet and may throw you off as far as the mix of the sweet and savory, I didn't think it was very well balanced in the end result. overall this is a very challenging destination to get, but very worth it when here. if possible try all they have to offer cause their fried goodies are pretty good. read more

During a recent visit to Puerto Rico, our tour guide brought us here because this is where the locals eat. Well, all I can say is MIND BLOWN. This was likely the most exciting and delicious meal of our entire trip. It was certainly filling, as we gorged ourselves on a variety of fried and grilled creations, and of course enough rice and beans to alter our genes into honorary Puerto Ricans. We sampled empanadas of various fillings (beef, chicken, crab), crab alcapurrias (cassava fritters filled with crab), skewers of both plain and BBQ chicken thighs, grilled pork, and of course the glorious rice and beans. This was the meal we were hoping for! We were only in Puerto Rico for 1 1/2 days leading up to a cruise, and we wanted to experience the best of the best. It's so easy to get stuck with touristy Puerto Rican food (not the real deal), but Donde Olga definitely delivered. I'm literally drooling as I write this review. I love seafood. Any kind. But especially fried fishies with onion. If the onions were pickled, it would be even better, but this was pretty awesome. Not to mention, this was the first time I had mofongo in P.R.! Groundbreaking meal here! The fish was incredibly fresh, fried perfectly and seasoned well. I found the prices to be a bit expensive. Not sure if that's the norm around Loiza, but for the fish and an extra mofongo and two drinks, it was about $31 bucks. I wish I could try more of the menu. Asked for Alcapurrias and one bacalaito ti share with my friend. The Alcapurrias were hard, but we ate them because that is a craving I had. The bacalaito (cod fish fritter) was extremely salty and we could not eat it. When he brought to the owner's attention, he refused to acknowledge or do anything about it (like offer something else) and got extremely irate and told us that we just wanted to harm his business. He also insulted me because I was talking to someone about it on my phone. I will never go there again!!! read more
