After I landed in Puerto Rico it was pouring, so I didn't had a chance for days to go outside to enjoy anything. I landed in the afternoon & by the time I reached my hotel I can't wait to try some authentic food ! So from the hotel they recommended this restaurant. The thing is everyone will not like everything they will ever try, just because I didn't like this dish doesn't mean I will not like anything else. I did like the dessert called Tres Le Che, yum! The price is on the higher side, so it made me little skeptic about rest of my trip. The ceviche, at first, did not meet my expectations, because on the palate it is somewhat bland and flat. but once you add spicy avocado to it, everything changes in your mouth. Great place for drinks at the bar but not a sit down dinner. It is worth to mention that valet parking is available. As soon as we walked in, there was a very pronounced fish smell. All the fish displays were on your right as soon as you walked in. We were sat on a super dirty table (see pictures). Not one single person came by to greet us or take a drink order for at least 10 minutes. There were at least 3 serves just talking to each other. We just walked over to the bar. At the bar we had way better luck. Our waiter was phenomenal. Attentive, professional and knowledgeable. I ordered a Medalla Light. To eat, we sampled a few things. Fish and shrimp tacos. Our waiter was not as friendly as the others but his lack of personality won't stop from giving credit to the restaurant. Ok, maybe I'll drop to 3 stars. Jonathan made us flag him down when we were ready to order, started making notes on a clipboard by the kitchen door while we waited for a to go box, card to give us a bag to carry the food out and never smiled when he talked to us. Ended here for dinner with family, after a day of exploring old San Juan. At first I was concerned by the Yelp review, an overall , but my sister spoke great things about it. Then there was the parking availability. Remain calm, while valet parking - there is no extra charge. I assume is their way of running a restaurant while knowing they have limited parking. This place seems to be very popular and always full. While we didn't have to wait long for our tables, people arriving later did have to. Then there's the noise. Lots of noise. Not the place to sit down and have a quiet dinner. They also took long with our order. Not sure if this was because it was the weekend and busy or because everything is made when ordered.They offer many local dishes and it seems sea food is what they do. Our group ordered the sea food salad, lobster stuffed mofongos, salmon in tamarind sauce, and a lobster tail with ajillo sauce. No complaints from any of us, other than the size of the mofongos; they were on the small portion side. The lobster, however, was huge and cooked to perfection. Now to desserts - while they have a menu listing many desserts, the waiter informed us they are in the process of phasing some out and they only had cheesecake. Overall, it was a great experience. My sister wanted fried red snapper. We went to Cayó Caribe restaurant and arrived at 6PM trying to avoid the crowd. The restaurant was busy but not excessively. The ambiance was acceptable. The waiter was very helpful and attentive and took our order for drinks. Then we ordered 2 appetizers including croquetes and chorizo al vino. The chorizo was very sweet like I had never experienced. The order for our entrees was then taken around 6:30 and it took until 7:25 to arrive. There were no small red snapper so we ordered the filet with garlic sauce. I ordered snapper in cazuela and the third entree was salmorejo with tostones. The snapper in cazuela was dry the seafood consisted of 2 clams and 2 mussels, Everything else was chick peas and chorizo in a tomato sauce that I could not eat as my entree as extremely salty and the snapper filet was dry. The dish was cold as well. What a disapointment. This was the my second time at this establishment, as the first time was also a disappointment but there will not be a third time. This is a great local spot. The bar is happening 7 days a week. When the rest of Roosevelt is dead, Cayo is packed. It's because the food is solid and the prices are low for the neighborhood.
