    Tuna poke bowl

The food here is so fresh! While I would have loved bigger portions (who wouldn't?), it gave me room to try multiple things :) I usually like my poke stacked with toppings and sauces, but this place stuck to a couple of ingredients and made sure to incorporate them really well. My biggest pet peeve is when avocado is either obviously pre-mushed and packaged, or when it's overripe. As you can see here, mine was as perfect as they come. The yakisoba was super flavorful and balanced, though the sauce wasn't evenly distributed (some of the noodles were just clumped and missed out). The family that runs the restaurant is really lovely. Our server made sure I didn't have to worry about my allergies, provided consistent refills on drinks, and was just very friendly in general! At the end, they even gave us a music playlist to take with us for the long drives ahead!

It's Chinese or Korean trying to be Japanese and while it was not horrible, I didn't find it very good. The family had teriyaki dishes and that was just okay. Me and hubby had sushi and soup. The fish portions were decent but it all was just meh. I'll not come back.

Edamame was great! The chicken ramen was good had a flavorful broth, but it got even better when we added sriracha to the broth! The staff was extremely friendly and the food came out pretty quickly!

Wouldn't expect great Japanese food in Montrose, but this place was great! I did a take out order, ready within the promised timeline, friendly staff. Super fresh rolls that are really unique and flavorful.

Left to right - Octopus nigiri, Spider roll, Hori roll. Both without avocado.

This place unfortunately let me down. I ordered a Hori roll without avocado ($16) and a Spider roll without avocado ($14). The Positives: Very friendly staff, very welcoming, and quick to serve you. It was quite quiet on this day that I attended (a Monday 6pm). There was maybe four or five pair of people at one time. The place was not at all packed. The sushi presentation was nice but wouldn't stay that way for long. The Octopus nigiri was priced well. The Negatives: In my opinion the sushi was less than average. Very bland and It wasn't rolled very tight and kept falling apart as I tried to eat it. The tempura in both rolls seem to be a little overcooked but especially the roll that contained lobster tempura. Oh did I mention that the sushi was very expensive compared to several other places i have gone? The taste unfortunately, it wasn't very tasteful at all. I actually lost the urge to finish my rolls, which is very unlike me. I decided to order Shrimp Ramen to go and even that wasn't pleasant to me. To sum this all up, though the people were awesome and friendly, I wouldn't refer Hori to any when in Montrose.

This is our favorite sushi place in town. Our top pick is the Hiro Roll, lobster tempura, crab meat, avocado, cucumber, topped with tuna.

We grabbed takeout from Teppanyaki Steakhouse in Grand Junction on a Thursday night while traveling…read morethrough town. It was an easy walk from our hotel, which was perfect because it was late, we were tired, and we were hungry. From the outside, it's connected to the Ramada and doesn't necessarily look like a fancy steakhouse. But once you walk in, it has a nice Japanese-style vibe. They also have an outdoor patio with market lights that would probably be great in warmer weather. It was mid-March and cold, so nobody was sitting outside. The young man who greeted us at the front was fantastic -- very friendly and super helpful. We grabbed menus and sat near the bar for a few minutes while deciding what to order. Inside, it's set up like a traditional hibachi steakhouse with several tables where chefs cook right in front of you. There were four hibachi stations and three of them were already full when we arrived, which tells you the place is pretty popular. I only saw one chef at the time, though, and a couple more groups came in while we were waiting for our food, so hopefully they had more chefs coming on -- otherwise that could turn into a long wait. I ordered the hibachi ribeye, which came with vegetables, fried rice, and a salad. The ribeye was tender and cooked perfectly. The vegetables (carrots, mushrooms, and zucchini) were really good. The fried rice was decent but could have used a little more seasoning. The salad looked pretty basic at first -- mostly iceberg lettuce with half a cherry tomato hiding at the bottom -- but I wanted to try the ginger dressing. That dressing was actually delicious and tasted homemade, and I ended up eating the whole thing. My husband ordered one of their combo bowls with chicken and fried rice, which he said was very good. He chose the miso soup instead of salad, and that was the only miss of the meal. It didn't really taste like the traditional miso soup we're used to. Overall, the food was very good and the service from the host made a great first impression. If we pass through Grand Junction again, we'd definitely consider stopping here again.

Our server didn't really seem to know what the menu was which was kind of odd. The sushi was quite good. The tempura was a little bland, and the unadon eel donburi was ok. We were seated in a back room, so it was actually pretty nice and quiet. Overall decent food, nothing special.
