Spectacular Friday Night. I often whine about the restaurants in Montrose having license plates on the walls, and I'd like a nice, quiet place with a touch of class. The Stone House absolutely delivered! wonderful ambiance, not super loud music, nice staff I keep forgetting to come back, its a mistake. Prime Rib on Friday, a perfectly cooked medium rare, flavor spot-on. Vegetables were perfect, light crunch, not mush, flavorful as could be. The service was a bit slow, but they had a full house so I imagine they were totally swamped. The food was a bit disappointing though. We dined here on two different occasions without dinner reservations and both evenings were met with excellent wait staff! The first time was during the regular work week and the food service was exceptional. However we were so impressed on this establishment that we returned on a Friday evening early without a dinner reservation. Again the wait staff was excellent however the food service was rushed as the prime rib was served lukewarm! Were not to finicky but marked this down to the evenings full house and perhaps understaffed in the chef's kitchen? read more

The food was delicious! I had the Filet Mignon. Very good. Salad was nice and fresh; everything you'd want in it and nothing you don't want. The mixed drinks were perfect! I had a White Russian and it was made perfectly! Nice and strong, without being overpowering. The service was great, even though they were pretty busy. The manager stopped by the table and asked how I was enjoying it. Very good customer service! The restaurant was tastefully decorated. The prices are a bit high, but not ridiculously so. Stone house is a great place for an evening out! I ordered the mussels and garlic bread and it's a great tasting appetizer, coming from someone who lives off the California coast! The restaurant inside felt warm and cozy and would be a plus when it's cold out there. Our waitress was friendly and was personable with us and she did an amazing job. The ribeye was extremely tender, ordered medium rare and I can't lie it's one of the best ribeyes I've had in a long time. Extremely flavorful and the veggies paired weren't too heavily seasoned or salted and it added some nice color. Mashed potatoes were a staple and were also really good. This place is at the south end of Montrose, near the Walmart. It is a cute building but very tight parking lot, not a lot of spaces. When I walked in, I was greeted by the host stand with 4 people around it, not customers, but staff. They were working on a seating issue with a guest ( she seemed to be upset with the location they placed her in but had no other large tables, and another party who had a large party was waiting to be seated once they moved the mad lady). NOT a single one said welcome or we will be with you on a min. I started my timer and waited 3 mins for them to even acknowledge me. Not a great start. Once they did acknowledge me, I was seated right away, it was only me. Waitress was good, gave me a few mins them took my order right away. I was not that hungry so I got an appetizer and a wedge salad. Was not really a fan of the pork belly skewer. There was to much chili sauce just poured on top. It would have been nice to have it cooked in the chilli sauce to get a nice crunch and caramelization. Wedge salad was good. Just the right amount of dressing. Not sure if the dressing is house-made, the waitress disappeared after she dropped my food off. Next time I saw her was when she stopped to she guests pictures of her kid. Might give them a try again if in town. Would like to try the shrimp scampi I saw a young kid had. read more

We came to check out the hi tea. It was a great experience. Loved the booth and the white tablecloth. The back room has a cozy vibe. This was a unique experience and the service was above and beyond. I don't often eat fries, but when I do, I wish they were from Stone House! (How did you like my dos equis impression?) I could not put the fries in my mouth fast enough. What a great feeling to have when stuffing your pie-hole with perfectly deep-fried slivers of potato!? I'm not local, but every time we go through Montrose we try to make a pitstop at Stone House. The service and atmosphere of the restaurant are perfect for small town American! I'm so happy to visit my home state of Colorado and even happier when the servers at Stone House give us the "family" treatment! read more

Having been in the restaurant business for many years, it really is hard to give this rating. The ambiance is nice, the service was fine, but the food had no redeeming quality. We spent $200 before tip on a filet that was tough (turned out they had skewed some end pieces together because I found the wooden skewer in it about 2 bites in. Very tough, not much flavor, $50. My husband had the prime rib, he said it was flavorless. Both our potatoes were not cooked through, and the sautéed vegetables were cold. I also ordered a martini and it seemed like they made it with 3/4 water and a splash of vodka. Truly truly disappointing. We allow ourselves to splurge on a dinner maybe once a year, and this is what we chose, and it was so bad. :( read more

There was an infestation of flies. We couldn't even enjoy the food. The restaurant was practically empty when we arrived and probably we were given the smallest table in the worst spot directly next to the kitchen. I believe the hostess should more considerate and mindful when choosing where to seat customers. Of course we didn't complain. Given I was with my father I didn't make a big deal out of it but I definitely would have requested to be sat somewhere else if I would have been with anyone else. read more

Wow is an understatement! Went in with a dinner reservation to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We are both gluten free and they were happy to accommodate. They offer gluten free pasta and bread as well. The gluten free shrimp scampi with gluten free bread was amazing!! We were also given a complimentary crème brûlée dessert, which was also tasty. My spouse had the steak dinner, which he stated was very good, not pictured. The atmosphere is really nice as well, with a fireplace pit to make it feel cozy. The ambiance was magnificent vary log cabin style restaurant. The service was good but the manager was flirting at the bar and waitress was very nice. But the place was vary under staffed. The appetizer were vary good but do not get the pasta it is vary over cooked and the Alfredo souse was sticky in your mouth.We had 4 different pastas a all of us did not like it at all overcooked. Desert were vary good recommend the crème brûlée but definitely only order off the appetizers menu. For food unless you would like to test your luck with the steak we have not tried it yet but stay off the pasta menu would not recommend but is a shame that the food is bad because it is a lovely restaurant read more

Went on a Friday night without reservations and they were able fit in our party of three. Service was spot on. Food options were plentiful. I got the salmon which was cooked a little more than needed but was pretty good. Chicken parmigiana was ordered -- huge serving! Very tasty! Teriyaki tuna was also ordered and was cooked perfectly. Lighting was low, but we could still see well. There were 4 of us- all very hungry from our visit to the nearby Black Canyon of the Gunnison. We came from out of town for the weekend for our wedding anniversary and decided to give The Stone House a try. We were able to make a reservation which was nice. When we arrived we were seated in front of the kitchen at a teeny, tiny, table. I ask if we might be able to move to a different table that had a bit more space. The hostess was very accommodating. We were sat at a table in the bar area which was no big deal. Our waitress who was also the bartender took a while to get to us. Once she did she was pleasant. She took our drink order and delivered our drinks to us quickly. We ordered two different appetizers, the spinach artichoke dip which was delicious and the avocado rolls which were just not good. No flavor, just a big chunk of avocado and some sun dried tomatoes. The flavors did not go together well. The sauce was decent but nothing to write home about. Once our waitress took our order we were forgotten about. I had to ask her twice to bring our salads. The service was lacking. She was either to overextended or forgetful or both. Once we received the salads they were very good. I ordered bleu cheese dressing and my husband ordered ranch dressing for his. Both dressings were thick and yummy. I should mention we received our appetizers long before our salads. For our main dish my husband ordered a steak topped with a pepperconi sauce along with mashed potatoes. He said the steak was cooked perfect and the flavors were all there. I ordered the prime rib along with fried shrimp. I had a baked potato as well. The shrimp were yummy as was my baked potato. The prime rib was cooked correctly but tough. I had to really saw through it. As a bonus to our not so wonderful anniversary dinner we were seated next to an old couple that fought LOUDLY the entire time. The man told his wife that all republicans should be killed. Nice. We recently purchased a gift certificate online for a special couple. There was a internet glitch that caused the system to purchase 5 identical $100 gift certificates for the same couple. We were excited to try this place as it was one of the highest rated restaurants in Montrose. The restaurant itself is very nice inside it definitely feels like a steakhouse. Immediately when we walked in we felt out of place, every single customer in there gave us the dirtiest looks. The wait was fairly long and once we were seated our waiter walked past us for 15 minutes just looking at us. He finally came to our table and filled our waters but didn't introduce himself just walked away then came back 5 minutes later and finally told us he was our waiter. Everyone else in the restaurant was getting great service by our waiter and every other waiter besides us. We finally placed our order and ordered the loaded potato skins and the chicken Alfredo. It took almost an hour to get our Alfredo. The potato skins were okay they were not seasoned at all. The Alfredo was not worth the almost hour wait, the chicken had zero seasoning and the Alfredo sauce was the same it had the flavor of heavy cream and pepper, the noodles were overcooked and gummy and sticky. The best part of the whole dish was the garlic bread and my wife said the only thing she liked was the Dr. pepper she ordered to drink. The best option for fine dining in the area. Menu options are varied and all sound (and are) delicious. Service staff were attentive and friendly. Atmosphere is classy and comfortable but not over the top, you'd still feel welcome in your cowboy boots. Reservations are probably a good idea as Montrose's best kept secret isn't such a secret these days. Parking is decent sized and the location is conveniently just off the main thoroughfare. Definitely a strange looking building in the middle of Montrose, but it does live up to its name. We had a reasonable wait at 5:30 given that we didn't have a reservation. The food itself was great, if a little too generous on portions. The chicken breast was half the size of the large plate, but she liked it.
