After a picturesque day at Black Canyon, this was a fantastic post-trip meal stop to recover some calories! Right off the bat, the mushroom salsa was such an interesting service item, served along side salsa and tortilla chips for free. It had a bright, vinegar-y bite to it. I ordered the chicken asado, which while grilled a little bit on the drier side, was great with the beans and rice. Also the corn tortillas are definitely the way to go! To end the meal, we got a flan and that is definitely a non-skippable item. It was extremely smooth and creamy, definitely had us going back for another and another bite. Overall, a solid meal option in the area.

Options for vegans, great food, great service! We decided to try this place out because we were staying the night in Montrose, and it being a Sunday, there wasn't much open! I saw some good reviews for this place, so we gave it a whirl. The atmosphere was great, complete with beautiful and authentic Mexican decor. The menu is quite large, and we were pleased to find there were several options to choose from for vegetarians and vegans. There were several types of burritos, as well as enchiladas and soup. We just asked them to hold the cheese-easy peasy. My partner ordered a smothered veggie burrito that was enormous and delicious. I ordered the veggie enchiladas that were smothered in a puréed carrot sauce-fantastic! We will be back to try the other menu items that we couldn't try this time :)

Mom and I had dinner here a few days into our Montrose business trip. She had dined here numerous times and mentioned how good the food was. I was intrigued at the mushroom salsa - an earthy, fresh, and delicious concoction that's complements the tomatoey salsa perfectly. Scoop both onto a crispy tortilla chip...heaven in your mouth. Only 2 of us for dinner tonight, so naturally, we ordered enough food for 5 people. The portions are NOT skimpy. We had leftovers for a couple of days. I enjoyed the tortilla soup with its tomato base and rich broth filled with chicken, cilantro, avocados, and onions. Margaritas were giant and went down swell. I stuck to just one, after all, mom and I are professionals. Ha! Mom had the molcajete of beef, chicken, and pork - she may have licked the vessel clean, but I'd deny it if she asked me to. I enjoyed the carnitas plate, which seriously would have fed 3 people. Roasted, fresh pork with all the accoutrements of bona-fide carnitas plate. The restaurant gets busy during the popular dining hours. Lots of parking, too. Friendly service, but I did have to flag a server or two to help us - we were seated in a corner, and in hindsight, I should have suggested a move to an alternate table. We weren't fazed though, we rather enjoyed the slow, casual experience. Absolutely worth another visit, especially for the mushroom salsa - you really must try it.

On par with the Amelia's and the other places in/near Montrose. 3 of us ate for $78.63, which is a lot but the quality is okay and there's quantity for days. Crispy chile rellenos were really good. Ambience is okay, little tight packed in the booths but that's average for CO. Servers were quick and capable, no complaints there. Not too busy on a Tuesday at around 4-5 pm.

After a long day of hiking, sight seeing and soaking in hot springs we were looking for some comfort food. We found it here! The restaurant was bustling. It was Friday night after all. We were seated in short order and started checking out the menus. Lots to choose from. We were provided an ample bowl of chips and two delicious red salsas as well as a fresh salsa consisting primarily of mushrooms. My husband tried the mushroom salsa as I have an allergy and he said it was really good. I am a chile rellenos fan. I order them any time I can. It was a no brainer for me. I found a combo plate that included a chile relleno, soft, a tamale, made fresh, and an enchilada along with refried beans and rice. It hit the spot. My husband got combo that included a soft beef taco, a chicken enchilada and a fresh made tamale with black beans and rice. We enjoyed our dinners and were fueled enough to go on another small hike for sunset.

    Chicken Asado Burrito. Delicious!

College grad son and I ate here after an afternoon of hiking at Black Canyon, thankful that they were open until 10:00. Bottom line - don't think twice, just go and enjoy this place! Extensive menu with creative options we don't normally see, loved the mushroom salsa (and red salsa) served with the chips. Prices good, portions big (my 6'6" son couldn't quite finish his burrito, which never happens; I finished my Chicken Asado Burrito - an excellent choice - the next day). Service excellent. Kudos to the management and staff for such a nicely decorated, clean, delicious restaurant.

This place is a gem! I stayed in Montrose for a night on a long road trip. This place blew me away with how great the food was. Some of the best Mexican food I've ever had, ESPECIALLY for the price. Wow. I had the Fiesta Mi Mexico which is seafood with a cream sauce. For seafood in the middle of Colorado is was superb. Great salsas too. Also, the decor is special. All the chairs and benches are heavy high end wood, hand carved and painted. Very special.

Great homemade tamales. Enjoyed regular chili relleno rather than deep fried. Plenty of seating and great service!

Find another place to eat. You will be disappointed. Terrible food. Flour tortillas from the dollar store I suspect.

July 18, 2026 - Montrose, CO…read more The dog-friendly outdoor patio first caught our eye, and then the name--Horsefly Brewing Company--along with its great reviews convinced us to stop for lunch. We're so glad we did! The patio is spacious and comfortable, with several seating areas that give it a relaxed atmosphere. Our server was friendly and attentive, and his recommendation of the Flatlander Chicken Sandwich ($15.99) was spot on. Since my husband and I often split meals, we ordered one sandwich to share. To our surprise, it arrived already divided onto two separate plates--a thoughtful touch that's becoming all too rare. That kind of service definitely earns extra points. The sandwich was delicious, with grilled chicken breast, guacamole, bacon, pepper jack cheese, and chipotle mayo, served with perfectly cooked crispy fries. I ordered an iced tea but couldn't resist trying a sample of their seasonal Peach Ale. It was so good that I ended up ordering a small glass. I'm not usually much of a beer drinker, but this one was outstanding. I only wish they sold it in cans so I could have taken some home! Before we left, my husband picked up a couple of cans of his favorite beers and a Horsefly T-shirt. Great food, excellent service, tasty beer, and a welcoming dog-friendly patio made this a memorable stop. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in the area.
