"Camp Robber" may amount to highway robbery...hear me out: Got food to go, ordered online. Fairly smooth ordering process. Got chicken quesadilla appetizer for the kids, 1/2 rack of ribs, and street tacos (one pulled pork, one grilled chicken, and one beer battered cod) with beans and cilantro rice. The service was kind and I picked it up on time. The orders were hand-written on the boxes. Inside the store was pretty standard for a Southwestern style casual dining restaurant. Dark walls, decent lighting. So as far as affordability...here's where it fell flat. I'll say, the food was all flavorful. If it was taste alone, it would be a 5 star. BUT... The street tacos were comparable in size to Del Taco's street tacos... so...not much. For the price point, not worth it. The "1/2 rack" of St. Louis Style Ribs had a total of 4 ribs. Like...would their 1/4 rack only have 2 ribs?? The best value item was the chicken quesadilla, but we paid extra to sub sour cream for the salsa (my kids can't handle "spice"), and it came in a SMALL condiment cup. Ultimately, we polished off our dinner and had to supplement everything with other foods. Which we'd be fine with except at the price we paid, anywhere else would have easily left us satisfied. Drove by and saw parking lot was packed and most the reviews were good. Had a few minutes wait to be seated. Was seated in a comfortable booth. Waiter took drink order. Came back for dinner order we were not ready. Came back again in like a minute, still couldn't decide. Then waited around ten minutes for the waiter to return. I ordered the shrimp Chimayo about $20. It came with about 5 medium size shrimp. (Shrimp were not fresh. Tasted like frozen from a bag). Spaghetti was over cooked sauce was flavorful. My husband ordered chicken Alfredo also about $20. House salad $8.00 fresh and tasty. Waited a while for waiter to return to request check. Over all food was average especially for the prices and service was sub par. read more

After a wonderful long day at the Black Canyon of The Gunnison we found this place on yelp and the reviews looked pretty good. It turns out it's not far from our hotel. Place looked nice on the outside and hoped we weren't under dressed. But it is pretty casual and even though they were closing in an hour we never felt rushed. Some people came in after even. They have a bar but we didn't order any drinks. It was very nice inside and they had tables and booths. It was quiet as it was a Monday evening. The menu had a good variety and we both ordered the elk burger with different toppings and one with sweet potato fries the other with onion rings. Both cooked to medium and the sweet potato fires and onion rings simply delicious. The coating on onion rings very light which is what we like. We saved room for dessert since we had a long day. A San Juan Mudslide pie and chocolate creme brûlée. Both were really good. Creme brûlée wasn't what I expected just had chocolatey layer on bottom and regular creme brûlée on top. The server was friendly and attentive enough and accidently forgot to charge us the dessert. She was thankful for our honesty. We left super full and satisfied. We decided to give this place a go after visiting Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP. The weather was still seasonable, so we sat outside on the patio which was a very cute space. There were some happy hour specials, so we tried an appetizer with potato, pork and green chili. I had some questions about the beer menu, and our server admitted he was not a beer-drinker, but he offered to grab me a sample, which was appreciated. The drink menu seemed fairly priced and they had some seasonal cocktails featured as well. For dinner two of us got pasta dishes (Shrimp Chimayo, and the Sonoran Steak with Chipotle Alfredo), and one of us got a burger. I heard another server highly recommend the New Mexican food after we ordered, so I think that may be a good way to go. (I had an upcoming trip there myself so didn't think to do that). The shrimp in my pasta was really well cooked, but I had to request some chili flake to add because it didn't pack much of a punch (the chipotle alfredo sauce on the other dish by contrast was pretty tasty). I did notice as the meals progressed some servers were more attentive & experienced than others. That said, all things considered, this was a pretty enjoyable and unique meal on our trip. read more

Had a wonderful dinner here today! Started with their delicious chicken/chili/potato soup followed by jackfruit enchiladas and black bean enchiladas. Everything was seasoned to perfection and the cilantro rice and cheesy posole side dishes were the perfect compliments to our entrees. Hubs enjoyed his Dirty Hippie beer as well! I'm sorry but this place is a no go for me after eating there last week. Steak ordered medium rare, came out more well done barely medium. For $42 for 12 oz on beef, we told our server that it was overcooked, when the manager came over he said "what would you like me to do about it?" Ughhh... what? Cook a new steak to the right temp! Also server told us "we don't make martinis often, so we need to get glasses from the back." Queue a 20 min wait for two margs (which were tiny) and martinis. Also got the enchiladas, which were pretty decent, so if you do go here, that's alright but the chili rellenos... over breaded, all cheese and extra greasy. But the option to get "pezole" that's that glob you can see in the middle is not like any other pezole I've had before. Your money is better spent elsewhere. read more

My hubs had a private high school class reunion gathering out on the lovely covered patio this past Friday. As long time devotees of the Camp Robber, small business owners Kim and Bill Volk never disappoint! Our server Nolin was top notch, all smiles, professional and very attentive! Terah, who was working the bar solo (at least when we were there) performed her job like a boss! Especially for a Friday afternoon! She was fixing drinks lightening quick for our group of roughly 30, as well as the rest of the restaurant...while also taking food orders in a seamless, calm and professional manner! We ordered some delicious chicken quesadillas while there and for an after-party got a few orders of chips, guac and salsa, more quesadillas and chile relleno's to-go. All so good!!! Several friends recommended Camp Robber and it turned out well for us. The Thai noodle salad looked so good as did the prime rib Reuben. I got the half rack ribs. The meat fell off the bones and the taste was good though not the best I've had, I different choice of bbq sauce would have been great. Gluten free options were well marked. Being there on a Tuesday meant that we had 2 for 1 margaritas. Yum! That was delish! If ever in Montrose we will stop. Addendum: I had an issue the next day with the food I ate. No one else did so I can't recommend the ribs. Or maybe the fries were cooked in oil not often cleaned. read more

Excellent experience and conveniently close to Montrose airport. Found Camp Robber after searching on Yelp. We enjoyed our meal greatly. Everything was fresh, homemade and bursting with flavor. We had the Thai chicken wrap with sweet potato fries, the chicken poblano quesadilla, a side salad with amazing basil vinaigrette and finished off with the peanut butter pie and San Juan mud pie. We have been coming here for years, one of our favorite places in Montrose. Sat. Oct. 11th was our Anniversary, so what better place to go to have a nice dinner at Camp Robber. Unfortunately, it was the first time we were disappointed in the food/service - Pork Medallions were pink/raw, the Chicken salad was ok, but hardly any dressing, the drink was not made the same, service was slower than ever, and the server failed to remember parts of our order. We ordered a house salad, nothing special there as well as a pasta dish that had shrimp, avocados, and prosciutto. Stopped in with our Corgi for a late lunch/early dinner on our way to the Blue Mesa reservoir. Called in advance to inquire as to whether dogs are allowed on their patio. "Oh, of course." The patio is covered and has a nice patch of lawn. I ordered the chili rellenos with the red and green sauce. They were truly the BEST rellenos I've ever had! My husband had the fried chicken and a side salad. Again, delicious! The side salad could've been a meal. I almost forgot to mention the delicious top shelf margarita that our adorable server prepared. We both highly recommend this restaurant! We will definitely be returning. The Camp Robber was suggested by a friend. Getting into the parking lot was an experience. Turn left here, turn left into the bank, don't enter here, you get the idea. They have a bar and we like to sit at the bar to meet and talk to the locals. We asked if we could sit at the bar, which we could but there was no bar tender. Needless to say, we sat in the dining room. The food is very good. The problem was that it took SO long to get our food. My husband looked around and asked, "Is anyone eating?" We were unimpressed during our visit. Took about 20 minutes for our drinks to arrive (we saw them sitting on the bar that whole time, just waiting to be delivered). The enchiladas came out room temperature with the red chili actually cold. The $23 1/2 lb bison burger was at best a quarter pound.
