I needed a haircut badly, and she was so kind enough to squeeze me in last minute. *Thank you so much, Hiro-San!* She has a charming little workspace at sola salons in the crossroads shopping center. Her workspace is in room #25. I'm not going to lie, I get really apprehensive when going to new stylists as it is a very personal experience, but the nerves went away as soon as I sat in her chair. Hiro is such a sweetheart and very easy to talk to! I thoroughly enjoyed meeting and getting to know her in addition to getting a great haircut! Hiro also uses top of the line products, like olaplex and goldwell, which I noticed immediately. I like the fact that she only uses the best stuff on her clients as she actually cares about your hair health. Her prices are also very reasonable. $68 for a haircut & my hair is long, extremely thick, and frizzy. Can't recommend Hiromi enough! She gave me a great cut for my long hair at the end of last year. Communicated via text for an appointment and always checked in with me every step of the way when she was cutting my hair. I tend to keep my hair long and she kept this in mind while giving me my cut. I recently came back to get bangs trimmed - I had side bangs grown out, and this time I wanted the real, legit bangs across my forehead. (I've been feeling crappy and low and I needed to cheer myself up - what better way to do it than to get bangs? Have to fake it until you make it, right?) Hiro is a very talented hairdresser and my wife and I are lucky to have found her. I forgot to review her last time but she does great work consistently and has for us. Her Japanese straight perm is ON point. When I get it, my hair is very low maintenance (not that I'm good at maintenance either way) At the end of the day you get what you pay for with these things. 100% believe it's better to pay a little more to get a better outcome. I think she really cares about the quality of her work and that shines through each time. When I get it done, many people ask me about my hair and I get many compliments. Besides joking to them "yeah, I grew it myself", I am thankful for my hairdresser. Sometimes, I get socially anxious for longer hair appointments because I'm not the best at small talk. This is my second time going to Hiro, and I have to say that she does quality work. The first time I went to have my hair permanently straightened, my hair was completely fried. Hiro was a magician and completely revived my hair! She uses a product which she calls hair Botox, which fills in the holes of the broken hydrogen bonds from the straightening treatment. But I noticed my hair was getting damaged and dry when I went in to do the treatment at my old salon location, reason the is other stylist use to use HEAT and that is forbidden when you do straightening on your hair, that was the reason my hair was damaging. I decided, to try someone else new and boy was I happy I did. Hiro works one on one with you, only does one persons hair at a time. She also does include a haircut in your hair treatment & process. She takes 3.5-4 hours for the straightening treatment & she also has products like olaplex that is offered discounted. Worth it! She's booked a month out. So text her to find her availability. Wow, time flies. I've been going to Hiro for almost a decade. An updated Yelp review is long overdue! I first found Hiro on Yelp just after my mom passed away from cancer. I asked Hiro to cut my hair so I could donate 10 inches to Locks of Love in memory of my mom. Then, a few years later, I donated again. I will donate again as soon as my hair is long enough. Today, January 19, 2021, I saw Hiro for just a trim. Besides the hair cuts and trims, Hiro is the best stylist in town for Japanese Hair straightening (Thermal Reconditioning). She has over 30 years of experience in Japanese hair straightening, digital perms, cuts and hair coloring. What I love about Japanese Hair Straightening is that it creates a shiny, soft and sleek style; best of all, it's low maintenance. I literally can wash my hair and go. No flat iron, no blow-drying. Hair remains straight when wet and stays frizz-free when humid. My hair always feels so soft as though it's had a collagen boost - well, that's what he said, haha. *wink* Kidding. In all seriousness, it's great for people like me who are always "on the go." It saves me time which I love because working boss bishes like me don't have time or the patience for beauty. Lol. I also learned that Brazilian blowouts use formaldehyde which is a known carcinogen so I never got another Brazilian Blowout. Note: If your hair has been colored or received other chemical treatments, you're at a higher risk of damaging your hair with thermal reconditioning like Japanese Hair Straightening. (Read my previous Yelp Review). An experienced stylist like Hiro will be able to let you know if your hair is a good candidate for Japanese Hair Straightening. The permanent treatment will last any where from 6 to 12 months. Be warned... Japanese Hair Straightening is a long, labor-intensive process... it will take a few hours.... but it's worth every minute and penny! Trust me and believe me because I've had the cheapo straightening perms that cost around $100 and they freaking suck and ruined my hair. That said, the process of labor of love and amazing results don't come cheap. It's pricey AF. It depends on your hair length and type, but expect to pay between $400 and $500+. I first came to Hiro at the recommendation of a friend after moving to Orange County. As a testament to Hiro, this friend still only has her haircut by Hiro despite having moved to NorCal. I also have never looked back and have since referred my friends and my mother to Hiro's salon. To preface, I have straight, heavy Asian hair and a lot of it. I prefer a long, layered style with focus on removing weight without sacrificing length or volume. Hiro was able to perfect my ideal cut at my first appointment with her, a haircut that I have been searching for, but never found at any other salon (including higher end/name brand salons). My mother, who has thick, coarse bordering on wavy hair and prefers a short style, was also so pleased with her cut. She has been raving about Hiro's cut since! Logistics: I always book with Hiro via text message. While she is very busy, she is always responsive and accommodating, particularly during the pandemic when regulations and restrictions were changing rapidly. I have never had to wait more than a week or so to book with her as I usually do not make appointments in advance. After I moved to the OC area for work and college, it didn't make sense to commute down to SD for my hair straightening treatments. I began looking up salons and stylists who did either the Yuko straightening treatment or something in the same vein. Hiro came up highly rated on Yelp and I texted her pictures of my hair before scheduling an appointment. She made a brief assessment of how much time and cost, which was in line with what I had done previously with my last stylist. Her salon is in Sola Salons. From the main entrance, go to the left hallway and it is the second door on the left. You should make an appointment before you go. (Some of the businesses do accept walk-ins but I'm not sure if she does for smaller things like haircuts.) The method she uses is a Japanese ionic straightening treatment that is safer for your hair than the Yuko system. (Apparently the latter is an American creation inspired by the Japanese treatments.) You can help to assist her with blow-drying your hair in between steps and holding hair that is not treated during the shampoo and conditioner process, if you want and she'll upgrade your deep conditioning treatment. I get done around 3-4 hours in the chair - much faster than my early treatments at Jet Rhys which was an all-day affair. (I've been to salons where they take the whole day and charge a lot more for the Yuko system.) She's a lovely person who is great to chat with as you get your hair done. One can tell she really likes what she does and she's great at it. With Sola Salons, they have a few designated parking spots. It's good to grab one of those if possible. The plaza has a lot of businesses and it can be a challenge to find parking sometimes. read more

Here I am still going to the same hair stylist over five years later. There is no one else I would trust to do a straight perm. Since going to her my hair always looks healthy. Even over half a year later I still get compliments how shiny and smooth my hair looks. Products she has recommended work really well and oftentimes they're not even products she's selling. Personally I also like how honest she is about something I want to get done (for example if she thinks a certain cut or hair color would look good... Or not so good.) COVID update: since the pandemic there have been several changes that make me feel very safe to go to her during this time. When we confirmed my appointment via text she then explained what the protocol was (for example text her when you're there and wait in the car. She'll meet you at the front door and escort you in. This minimizes the number of people inside the building). She disinfects her space between clients. Before covid she already had a large hepa filter so her studio always smelled fresh. Because of covid she added a UV air purifier on top of that to really minimize whatever germs might be floating in the air. Both of us wore masks the whole time. She has her ways to make sure your mask and the ear straps don't get wet. I'm very happy to still see her still in business during these hard times. I found her on Yelp earlier this year and went to her salon to have my hair checked so she could give me an estimation on how much it would cost. A dream come true for me. I've always wanted a healthy straight hair without blow drying and flat ironing. Hiro made it happened for me using Japanese straightening. I wished I knew Hiro 20 years ago when I used to get Brazilian blowout. It wasn't really working out for me, so I continue to flat iron which totally damaged my hair. Hiro transformed my hair. I stumbled upon Hiro through Yelp and I wasn't even searching hard. I'm so glad that I randomly saw her name and decided to give Japanese Straightening a try. Hiro did not disappoint. She's sweet and courteous always asking if I'm okay and making me feel comfortable. She took me through the process. She's unbelievably amazing at what she does because she loves what she does and it shows in her work. I was nervous getting my hair done never really researched much just hoping it would turn out good because I looked at the other results. My hair turned out silky and straight. I was tired of my damaged wavy hair. Although she had to cut out a lot of my hair off I feel that it was for the better and it made it healthier and softer. She's been trained for over 25 years. This post is so long overdue. Hiro is wonderful and her Japanese Hair Straightening skills and technique are beyond AMAZING. I always had frizzy / kinky hair so getting ready on a daily would consist of blow drying and using a hair straightener, which is so time consuming especially when you have 2 little ones and work full time. I am all for saving time and preventing my hair from heat damage. Hiro is really a life saver !! So Hiro's been my professional, go-to, hairdresser since 2003. I was born with thick, wavy, and course hair and she'd always come to the rescue, even after almost a decade she still there to fix my raggedy hair up after going through the ombré, then balayage trend.
