    Ridiculous
    Scott N.

August 1st - 4th Rm 224. We have stayed here for many years in a row while visiting my in-laws. It's always had issues but nothing that was a deal breaker and it was great because it was close to family and the antique store. There was almost always a light bulb out somewhere in the room, but the best example is the ice machine has been broken for at least 2.5 years but the owners refuse to replace it (per the manager). This year though was the worst. The toilet wouldn't flush. Turns out the chain to the handle was broken. When I told the desk, I was told there were no maintenance staff on site and asked me to "make it work" until morning. My wife, who is a wizard at quick fixes used a bread tie to attach the chain to the handle. Next up, the toilet lid was for a round toilet on an oval bowl. When you sit down, your legs were touching porcelain. When I told the desk, I was informed "it's been that way for awhile. We are new management and haven't got to it yet." That is just GROSS, especially for the women. Several of the floor planks had large gaps like they were cut wrong or had shrunk a lot. This was a minor issue considering the other issues but still not acceptable. Staff were fine, but not overly concerned with our issues or could offer any tangible solutions. There just doesn't seem to be any pride in the facility or care from the owners. I always like to say at least one good thing. There are two FREE Charge Point EV charging stations on the street next to the hotel. That was nice but hardly a counter to the other issues. This was the last time we will ever stay at Historian Inn.

Breakfast/lobby area, check in and my room

Conveniently located, access to local dining, shops and casino. I booked through Booking.com. Facility as described and matched the photos. Nice decor in lobby and sitting area where continental breakfast is served. Local artists water color prints and photographs on display and for sale. I purchased a framed water color of two stallions from the Pine Nuts Range Herd. Friendly, professional, hospitable staff. So friendly, helpful...exceptional customer service. This was huge part of this rating, the couple (and their son) were the sweetest. Room as described, huge very comfortable king non smoking bed. Nice decor including desk, big screen, cool bathroom countertops. Older facility but renovated. Looks just like photos. Super quiet, close to parking, EV charging station on street adjacent to parking lot. Plenty of parking spaces with easy stair access. The drapes/curtains are shabby, torn with binder clips to keep closed and reduce light. This was noted in a recent review by another customer. Drapes are beyond repair, need to be replaced. Toilet water pressure is weak, not much pressure. I'd stay here again based upon my stay, the excellent customer service, location and comfort of bed and overall room. But...the curtains.

This place is antiquated, but it's well kept. We had a room on the first floor with doggos. The room was okay, the staff was phenomenal. They called ahead to make sure we had pets and stayed up to wait for us. We really enjoyed connecting with the on-site contacts who made our trip a lot less exhausting!

My bank showing only a debit, never a return..

I tried posting with ZERO stars, because this is what they deserve. Yelp should fix this.. My parents lived in Gardnerville, NV. My mother passed away last year and because of Covid, her service was delayed from February to June. The week before the service, the governor there cancelled all gatherings so the service was cancelled. I had a room reserved and paid for one of two nights when I booked. I called to cancel and they were pleasant and said the charge would be reversed. That never happened. I called for months, sometimes daily and was told messages were taken, someone would call me back, refund me, etc, but I was ignored and lied to. I finally got ahold of the new owner, Berzchete Thornton, when I learned that my father is now dying and I wanted The Historian to honor the debt and/or give me a room for when I came to say goodbye. The new owner said she would take care of it, and then emailed me a screenshot of them refunding me. It was not from the bank or credit processing system, it was from their internal business computer system. My bank has verified twice now that I never got my money back. I told the new owner this, asked for the credit card processing company verification of returned funds (I do this for a living, so I know how it works), and she has completely ghosted me. So we stayed at the Carson Valley Inn instead, but this company owes me $134.70 and I will post this everywhere, including the BBB. They are dishonest and bad business people. Even with both my parents passed, I still have family there and friends, but I'll never stay there or modify this review until they make it right.

Basically our room was two rooms that have been converted into a suite that has a kitchen, little dining island, living room, and a separate bedroom and bathroom. It has two doors to enter, so a little weird but honestly, super practical. The rooms were very quiet and I couldn't hear any noise from any neighbors. The shower was great and the water stayed super hot through both of our showers. The room was spacious and clean (though the floor could have been swept/mopped better imo). The first night we were there, someone got sick in the parking lot. I called the operator and explained the situation and asked if they had anyone to clean it up as it wasn't exactly what anyone wants to see and to my surprise they immediately sent someone out who was able to clean up that spot! Thank you!! The casino is small, but had some good games. Overall, I'd stay here again.

Rooms were great - temperature controlled well, very clean and modern looking. Only negatives were housekeeping knocked twice to clean our room on our check-out day, and gave a lil sass when we weren't ready. And access from hotel room to street/walkable restaurants (which there were plenty!) was tough. There was no back entrance so it was a good 5 min walk to leave the building. I will definitely come back though, it had everything I needed! And the slots treated me well :))

I haven't stayed ay this Minden location for a few years, but it looks all about the same. It's a little trick to find exactly unless you've been here before. Coming south on 395 turn right at 88, the first stop light in town. Then turn left right away towards the Mavrick gas station and go straight all the way back. Lots of parking. Check in is easy and all the rooms are ready. I make sure to get a room on the first floor, cause it makes it way easier coming and going all the time like we do. I'm a rewards club member so I got my points posted right away. My room was nice and the AC was on already. The room was clean and everything worked, especially the WIFI is important. The bathroom was stocked and clean and the hot water pressure was great for some long showers that my little water tank at home won't let me do. I one gripe is, I love to just fill my travel coffee carafe full of hot coffee at the lobby coffee supply. Holiday Inn Express used to have the coffee available in bu holding carafes that held a lot of coffee. I just filled up and it was great. Now, they have these "fresh" brew as you go machines that only make one cup at a time, so if I wanna fill my carafe and bring it back to the room, I have to use both machines and brew single cups on each and then pour it into my container. Way more pain in the butt then it used to be. But I guess, that's just me, everybody else wants a single cup fresh ground and brewed. Other wise this stay is going just fine. Still look forward to those cinnamon rolls in the morning!

And from the Deck, the expansive view of the Carson Valley is stunning and soothing. Every time I come up, there's the latest talk about folks trying to make Genoa a "Destination". The area certainly seems to do nice Wedding business, and I particularly enjoy hanging out at the Genoa Bar. There are also a few nice places to eat such as La Ferme. Past that, it's my sense that this particular marketing plan isn't working as well as it should. David Walley's Resort recently went through a management change during an interesting "quiet" period and the relatively recent "Genoa Square" development is only left with the Dancing Deer and a reopened Genoa Country Inn. The Genoa Coffee & Candy Company was the latest closure, with the rumour that the landlord forced them out due to complaints of coffee odors (?) wafting through the hotel rooms. Oy. The Genoa Country Inn has 11 rooms and is a nice place with wi-fi and the usual other amenities (including view). It's an easy walk to anywhere within the Genoa Town Site, and if you just want peace and quiet, this place may be a good choice for you. However, if you want a little "excitement", South Lake Tahoe is a winding drive over the Kingsbury Grade, and greater Carson City or the "Twin Cities" of Minden and Gardnerville are all easy rides. Just watch the occasional speed trap on Jacks Valley Road.

In the townhomes, you have 3 levels and 2 patios: one patio on the second floor (living area with a half bath) with an egg chair and table setting. The third level is the bed space and that patio has the soaking tub and a little seating area. Their main bathroom is huge- beautiful modern shower with a huge soaking tub for two. The soaking tub takes some agility getting in and out, but is nice and deep and has jets. It takes a while to fill up, but once it does, it's really relaxing.
