I come to three or four M's games a month and had never been to Hit it Here before. I brought a friend from out of town who had never been to a ballgame before and wanted to grab a bite and watch a bit of the game from that perspective. Our waiter stopped by to check on us and then forgot about us for the next 25 minutes - twice coming by to say "haven't I taken your order yet? I'll be right back," and then forgot us again. Then we were encouraged to get the "special" Cajun salmon salad, which I did. The salad took forever and was simply terrible - wilted and rotten lettuce and an overcooked and cold slab of salmon. This is what took so long to get? When we told our waiter how lousy the food was he looked at us and said "I'm really sorry," but no offer to take it off the bill, complimentary beverage, nothing. Then, when we asked for the check, he forgot about us AGAIN, and AGAIN stopped by to check on us and AGAIN said,"I haven't brought that to you yet?" Needless to say, I will never come back to Hit it Here, and I'm so disappointed that my friend's first experience at the ballpark was tainted this way. read more

So I will start off by saying I really wanted to love this place. The atmosphere seemed so great. However, four innings later and still there was no food I have to say for price and performance it's the worst experience at a ball park establishment I have ever had. Once the food did arrive it was pretty Luke warm to cold chowder and we never received the Nachos we orders. Since it was then top of the 8th, we ended up not eating at the ballpark all together. The "Hit it Here" cafe is a great way to watch the game. If you manage to get a seat along the window counter, it's a great view of the action, directly out over right field. My $48 ticket came with $18 towards my meal, so it turns out ot be a fairly good value. Too, it's nice not having to deal with the dice roll of 'everyone else sitting around you' that you'll deal with anytime you're sitting out in the general ballpark -- nobody will spill beer on you while trying to get to their seat in the "Hit it Here" cafe :) The food was grossly overpriced, but decent quality. $18 got me a cheeseburger and fries, and a pepsi ($4 each, no refills!). Another $15 got us a heaping plate of nachos, which probably could have been dinner on its own. The beer selection is decent, and there's a fairly good selection of mixed drinks. Taken as a whole, the cafe is still very much worth the price -- great seats, a laid back atmosphere, plenty of food and drink choices: you'll spend, but you'll be glad you did. read more

What happens when bad food also includes an unpleasant trip to the bathroom 2 hours after the game? You drop from three to two stars. We had never been to a Mariner's game before and thought it would be great if our ticket included money for food. Enter Hit it Here Cafe and Terrace. Our ticket included $16 in food, which would have been a great idea if the food had been better. The Pros: They have 16 oz cans of beers for $5. They also have fountain drinks for $5, which includes free refills (yay!). I found the service to be pretty good, especially for all of the people our server was expected to attend to. They also offer a lot of different foods from garlic fries to sushi. The Cons: We went in the evening so the sun was beating down on us the first 3 innings. Most of the tables at the cafe are out in the blazing, hot sun so I got pretty red. More importantly, though, the food IMO was not good. We ordered 2 pretzels, a burger, and some of their "dirty" fries (along with a Rainier beer and a diet Pepsi). The pretzels were tough to chew and came with peanut butter sauce and cheese (a weird combination). The burger was okay. A little tough in my opinion, but hot and ultimately edible. The serving of fries was huge, but tasted only OK. Plus, it came with WAY too many banana peppers. The cherry on top of this sundae was that my husband got violently ill a few hours after the game. I was lucky that I did not get sick, but I think this was due to the fact that my husband ate 80% of our food. Ya know, this wasn't half-bad. For my first Safeco experience, I opted for the Hit It Here seats, because, let's face it, the seats are decent - and - they come with an $18 food credit. And - they are indeed pretty good seats - I was in the second row, and could still see everything without obstruction. I saw some prior reviews here about service, so I didn't go in with ridiculously high expectations - but - I have to say, my server went above and beyond. I've never been a fan of servers who instantly try to become your best friend - but at the same time - the gal I had was polite, talkative, and heck, asked me my name (and remembered it throughout the game). As for food - ya know, you kind of expect the food to be a little pricey, because heck, it's an MLB game. For the $18 credit, I was able to grab an order of fish and chips and a soda - the quality was really good, but the portion size was small (not obnoxiously so, but to the point where you could tell it was specialty). Opted for a "palate cleanser" of the mac and cheese, and same deal. I also know some folks felt a little detached from the ballpark experience, and I can totally see that. It's a little TOO isolated from the rest of the stadium, but at the same time, not bad at all. Not sure if I'd sit here again, but no regrets about trying it out at all. read more

Came here for the WSU Coug Alum game at Safeco, wasn't really watching the game but you know... I give this place 4 stars because it is awesome to watch the game in here and stuff but the food is WAY over priced for some ballpark quality food. Everything on the menu is over $10 and a bottle of Bud Lite is $8 HOWEVER What was super awesome is my friend and I were walking back to our table when we say the server trays filled with these giant dessert glasses. We ask one of them, a younger guy, if that was a giant banana split. It had ice cream, brownies, strawberries and bananas and looked amazing. When we asked how much it was he said $15 and looks behind him and says to us "if my manager wasn't standing right there I would let you guys have it." So we go back to our table of friends when the Manager Lady comes over to our table with it and says "I hear you guys were eye balling this and I see you all our Cougs so its on the house!" SOOOO AWESOME!! This dessert was so huge our table of 6 people couldn't finish it. It was pretty freaking BOMB THO. I Love watching Mariner games from here. I get claustrophobic, and greatly dislike sitting in rows of seats all squished together. This place affords one some room-- you can sit at a table or booth... we like the seats along the counter right on the railing Great view of the field and the action (Note: When the sun is setting in the West, it shines right in your eyes.... bring a hat with a visor or sunglasses). Yes, service is spotty. We have had great service, and at other times, not so great. Just like everyhwere else. We like the menu choices. Not a huge menu, but things you would expect at a ballpark: fish and chips, a hummus platter, burgers ,Nachos, BBQ, etc. Really good food. Not cheap, but NOTHING at the ballpark is cheap, right? (those players and owners need to pay for their Maseratis). You do get an $18 credit for food or drink with your ticket, so it is like buying a $30 ticket. I love having the room to spread out and not be squished in, and get waited on (rather than have to maneuver out of your crowded seat to go stand in lines to get the $12 cups of beer). Came before the game and was pleasantly surprised. Started with fried pickles. They were long spears so different than the small round ones we're more familiar with but not bad. Aioli sauce was very good. We both had the Pike Place clam chowder and it was excellent. My wife loved her Caesar salad and the tempura shrimp were wonderful. The boom boom sauce with shrimp was odd and I didn't care for it. Service was outstanding. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We sat inside but it was still chilly so bring a coat. My family and I got to our fair share of Mariner games and know that a meal at the HIHC is literally just a few bucks more than the fast food al la carte offerings around the stadium. I went the other night vs. St. Louis. My friend and I entered around 6:45. We didnt get our food until about the middle of the 2nd. It wasn't good and it was cool. The place wasnt busy (people don go to see the Ms anymore... that's an entirely different--chronic--disappointment), so I can't say they were backed up. My guess / hope is they had new chefs and it was training day and/or several chefs called in sick. They redid all our orders and it wasn't much warmer and was just as bad. The fries were soft, burgers dry, and pasta sauces watered down. In fairness our meals were comped, but I don't think we will return. read more

This was an absolutely horrible experience. Do NOT go here. Go to one of the stands through out the stadium. We had 8 people, so we expected to wait a while. We waited for almost an hour to get seated. Once seated, service was even slower. We ordered simple things like nachos and soup. After waiting for 30 minutes, only three people got their food delivered. After another 15, we asked where the rest of our food was and apparently no ticket was put in for it. I love going to Hit it Here Cafe during a Mariners game! The food is priced about the same as concession stands except you have table service for both beer and food. The outdoor seating is at club level but on the opposite side of the field so the view is nice! My favorite is sitting at the bar style tables outside overlooking the field. If you don't have the best seats in the house this is a great place to migrate to instead. That being said, I've only been here during a game that did not have many people in attendance - my guess is during a crowded game you'll have to get here early. read more

I agree with Shep G. on the service...it went from *very* attentive at the host station to a bit leisurely when eating and waiting for the bill. I also agree with the value and quality of the food. I had a Mediterranean Plate which included dolmas, decent pita, olive tapenade, hummus, and a harissa sauce of sorts. It also comes with prosciutto-wrapped mozarella, which I didn't sample. We sat here to watch a game at the outside tables and it was a blast! Our server was very busy however he was a great guy, very friendly and checked up on us regularly. You get an $18 food & drink credit per ticket when you sit here which is nice. I went for broke and got a "Salty Irishman", which is a generous big scoop of salted caramel ice cream and a big Irish Death porter to pour over it. What a great idea! All of their 22 oz bombers are $12, which is one of the better beer prices in the stadium, especially if you prefer the special brews. The dirty fries were good, a little messy though and require a fork if you want to make sure your toppings and fries stay together. The bread pudding for dessert was excellent as well and big enough for sharing. All in all one of the best game experiences I have had (even though the Mariners lost!) and we'll definitely do this again! read more

Last night was date night - and my first Mariners game - and wanted to go to a sit down restaurant in Safeco for dinner. There may have been other options (?), but we chose "Hit it Here". We got to the restaurant around 5pm - after getting our free Seager bobbleheads of course - and it wasn't too busy yet. The hostess sat us on the third tier of seats that had a great view of the field (though not seat has a bad view aside from the tables on the landing, near the kitchen). . A male server/busser brought waters right away, and our actual server came shortly after to take our drink and meal order. The timing of order taking was fine, if a bit slow, but by being a bit slow we could order drinks & food all at once. My husband ordered the breakfast burger with fries, and I a bowl of the gumbo ($8) with a side of fries. His burger came on a fresh local brioche bun, and the meat patty is grass fed beef (such a nice option!) with cheese, bacon, and a sunny side up fried egg. For $15 the price seemed reasonable and on par with non-ballpark restaurants, especially in Seattle. He loved the burger. The bowl of gumbo looked hearty, but unfortunately my first bite was barely microwave temperature warm. I did have to send it back because of this, but the fresh (or maybe re-microwaved) bowl came piping hot. A couple of big prawns, some small langostinos and a couple of slices of Andouille sausage was in the brown sauce with white rice, okra and some seasonings. I personally found the gumbo pretty bland, and gumbo shouldn't be bland. Luckily, a bottle of tabasco was on the table and I doused my gumbo with it - much better after that addition. The side of fries came in a cute "mini" deep fryer basket, and at $4.50, didn't seem outrageously pricey to me. They were not salted, which was nice so I could control the salt I put on them. Service was definitely not amazing, but it wasn't terrible either. Obviously things got busier as more people came to the stadium and to the restaurant for dinner. Service was never lacking (always someone nearby to help or serve your drinks/meal), but it wasn't attentive either. That said, issues that arose were immediately addressed without issue. My hubby finished his meal with dessert - a warmed chocolate chip cookie with a scoop of vanilla bean icecream. Seemed pricey at $8 when in comparison to the $8 bowl of gumbo, but whatever. Good selection of local beers, my hubby had a bottle of Kilt Lifter ($12) and I a refillable diet pepsi ($5). Tip: they serve their sodas in a plastic cups w/o lids. Ask for a refill and a lid before you leave the restaurant and you can save yourself from buying another beverage later in the evening! I would definitely be back! read more

Decided to go with the cheese burger. It was assembled quite well for ballpark food. The grilled flavor on the two 1/4 lbs patties was perfect, along with the seasoning. Topped with 2 slices of tillamook cheddar. Was also pleasantly surprised to see 3 choices of hard cider to choose from. Service was prompt and not pushy at all. My boyfriend and I went to the Hit it Here Cafe during a game for our anniversary and we were not very pleased with our service. Our waitress was very attentive when we first got there but when it started getting busy, she didn't even come check on us. The only thing we got to order was an appetizer (which was delicious) but we wanted a full meal. We had a voutur and everything and that made it seem like they didn't want to serve us. By the 5th inning we were starving and left to get food from one of the stands. I would not recommend going here, we will definitely never go back when we attend our next Mariners game. read more

It is great that you can go up there without tickets and food and beverages are comparably priced to the rest of the stadium. Tallboys of Ranier (16oz.) are only $5. Like Jesus Montero, service is painfully/comically slow - which has the benefit of letting you not feeling beholden to the cultural pastime of tipping while watching our national pastime. Last time I looked, Safeco Field was in Seattle, maybe not as well known as Portland for gastronomic delights, but still no slouch when it comes to diversity in food preferences. It has been awhile since we've eaten at the Hit It Here, and we were super disappointed in the menu choices. I'm sure the menu would be a hit in the heartland; not so much here. Seattle is justly famous for its fresh, wild-caught salmon. Sorry, not a bite here. Ok, how about pub style fish and chips? Nope, came up empty there. I had to settle on the Chicken BBQ flatbread; due to dietary restrictions, crostini was the only item on the menu my wife could eat. Nope, not a chicken breast or potato in sight. I had one small request - no bacon on the flatbread. Even though we were one of the first seated, took longer for us to get our meals than the table next to us. Ok, so one bite, and it's like BACON!! Finally caught a servers eye, he found our server, she looks at me, says, "I ordered it without bacon!" No apology, nothing. Took even longer for it to be remade. Meantime, my wife's crostini got cold, and she ran out of olive oil to dip the bread in. Asked our server for more, brought it down and plopped it on our table without comment, smile, or even eye contact. I am not sure where some of these reviewers were, but I have eaten here twice and the staff have been super friendly. I have experienced nothing but amazing food both times. The first time I had the Hit It Here burger and last night the Cheesesteak sandwich. I thought both were to die for. This was our first visit to the Hit It Here and will be our last. We had Terrace Level seats to the game, but arrived early so decided to go to the cafe before the game started. Not unexpectedly the prices were ridiculous ($12 for a hot dog that I can get at my local 7-11 for $30 but the king dog I ordered was pretty much as expected. My wife order the nachos and when they arrived they were crap. A pile of chips with a bare trace of chicken and something akin to cheese thinly drizzled over them. Largely inedible. Won't be back. The HIH Cafe has got some of the worst food in the stadium and also some of the worst wait staff. I get it that it's busy, but that doesn't mean you should receive poor customer service. We've sat there 6 times this year, and only twice have we had pleasant staff. And we figure, WTH, there will be different wait people there next year. High turnover. But that doesn't excuse the food. Don't order a burger because the patty is of the poorest quality beef that it could actually be used as a Ninja Death Star. I tried a bahn mi sandwich earlier this year and ate maybe two bites due to all the fat. The Seattle Dog was cold. The cheesesteak, well, I'm not sure they can call that "steak." I don't know what the meat substance was. Pulled pork was just okay. And up until tonight's great Edgar Martinez number retirement celebration game, the pepperoni pizza was about the safest thing. But I think the "chef" accidentally dumped the granulated garlic on it instead of a light sprinkle. Hit It Here folks, you guys need to step it up a notch. Customer service and food need a total makeover. I'd rather eat out amongst the eateries in the stadium, then come in there for the Molten Nutella Cookie, which, thank God, you haven't screwed that one up. read more
