Best steak I've ever had at a restaurant. This place is expensive but you get what you pay for and I went in prepared for the price tag. The drinks were great, not overly strong, but by no means weak. I had two martinis and my husband had a whiskey and coke. Our server was so kind and checked in regularly. He seemed really knowledgeable about the food and there was no lag time. My baked potato was amazing with all the fixings- cheese, sour cream, green onions. At this price point I expect the service and food to adjust proportionally; I EXPECT good food, great steaks, & attentive service. And the Met does that. What luxury steak house doesn't have a espresso machine, though? And when you throw in the compulsory 20% "service charge" the exprience degrades significantly. They have a nice wine list - and like others in the industry, they sell them at avg margins of 100% or more. In any other city, when one pays $200-$1,100 to include a bottle of wine with a meal, they are not expected to tip $40 to $220 just to POUR the wine! But you are doing that at the Met because the service charge applies to your total bill. Also, conveniently for Seattle and WA, the "service charge" is a taxable line-item - so you are ALSO paying sales tax on your compulsory "tip". So, a forced (taxed) tip - including a tip on high-margin alcohol, and an extra line at the bottom of the bill for even MORE tip, if you choose. I am normally a generous tipper (even after all of the above, I slipped the server some extra cash on an $1,800 check for 4 people) - but I am left with thoughts on the experience that are, unfortunately, not positive. This is a great place in Pioneer Square for happy hour. Its bar area is very large and you maybe able to find a few seats together, recommend coming in small groups. The happy hour menu is simple but has a variety of offerings. The food quality is high and prices were very fair. The service was quick and friendly. I highly recommend for happy hour. Got into Seattle at night, and this was the place we came to for dinner. The Metropolitan Grill has that old-school vibe, where they can check your coats right when you walk in! I haven't seen this for a while unless I was on the East coast, so to see it in Seattle I thought it was pretty nice. The servers are dressed like back in the days with nicely black suits and just a polished look. How I wish I lived back in the day! The food here is divine and I would suggest this place to everyone, if you want a delicious steak and a nice baked potato this place is the one. Everything went very well, we had a delightful waitress. It was my birthday celebration and we got an intimate booth close to the front but cut off from everyone. They were busy as it was a Saturday, and we sat down probably 20 min after our reservation. Drinks were great and food was delicious. I got a rib eye and she got the special. We got Mac n cheese, baked potatoe, asparagus, and mushrooms. Steak was cooked exactly how I ordered, Mac and cheese was great and mushrooms were perfect with the steak. Asparagus was cooked really well but just wasn't our thing. He fish dish was well put together but was dry for her taste, flavor and everything was great just a tad over done we felt. IMPORTANT: They do have a 20% surcharge that is split with the kitchen and server. So if you don't add to it, your server only gets 10% tip if I remember right. I personally wish restaurants would just raise their prices to accommodate the % surcharge instead of adding it at the end. From my nephew Wyatt, We came here to celebrate my Tio Brian's birthday. From the moment we walked in everyone was so nice and welcoming. Craig is the host he was very funny, kind and had very good stories. Our server (I forgot his name but he was amazing) took us on a tour of the restaurant and the vintage room. I really liked the painting on the wall! The bathrooms were super clean. My Shirley Temple was amazing. My fish and chips we're so crisp and crunchy. The steak cooked medium rare was amazing. I couldn't believe it. For dessert we had cheesecake and lava cake and they even gave us kids a small ice cream with chocolate syrup. Making a reservation was easy. We are led through the old school classy brown wood restaurant. Before you leave the host/hostess area, be sure to gawk at the celebrities photos who have dined here. Green Day caught my eye. Our white coated server was attentive. With our order of the Châteaubriand, she said it takes 40 minutes and suggested we order something while we wait. It was a cold day, so we both ordered soups. Alas, the soups weren't necessary. The Châteaubriand arrived in 20+ minutes, cut and served by a dedicated server in black and bow-tie. Cool. Metropolitan Grill is in my top 3 most reliable American fine dining restaurant in the greater Seattle area. I have been here numerous times over the last two decades for various reasons and occasions and I cannot say I had even one subpar experience. Whether it is for casual happy hour in the bar area, business lunch/dinner, large group event, brunch before the Seahawks game, their service and food preparation have always been top notch. It's such a safe choice too. They literally have something for everyone and can accommodate pretty much any food restrictions you can think of. They also have a great wine and whisky list and offer some beer on tap as well. The atmosphere is not casual per se but you do not need to dress to come here. My husband and I came here to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary and we loved it. It was easily within walking distance of our hotel which was downtown. We were greeted with friendly staff members from the second we walked inside to when we left. The food was delicious. We got the prime tenderloin bites and that by far has to be one of our favorites, so juicy and it melted in our mouths. I got a NY Striploin and my husband got the filet combination and we got a Mac and Cheese to share. Went here for a business-ish dinner and ordered the prime & American wagyu filet combo with baked potato and the hot apple pie. Overall, the steak was cooked well and I enjoyed the tableside service for the baked potato! It was nice that they fluffed it up and added the toppings in as a little show, but it wasn't as hype as some of the reviews made it out to be (although maybe that's because I didn't get cheese sauce or sour cream?). Apple pie flambé was absolutely crazy to watch, but I also didn't feel that the apple pie was necessarily a can't miss dish. The walnut crust was delicious though and I liked that you could taste a bit of the rum that they used for the flambé in the caramelized apples. One nice thing is that most of the seating for smaller parties is all booth seating, so it's a great place for a date night! Service charge is included so you don't need to tip. They do tax you on top of the service charge though so watch out for that! For parking, I'd recommend parking in the Wells Fargo garage across the street. I remember so well a visitor from Asia just staring at the Texas Long Bone Rib Eye. Delicious of course, but mainly the look on his face when he saw the bone literally off the plate. This is a tough review. I give the service, ambiance and food 5 stars. Everything we ate was quite delicious and served in style. I absolutely have to dock it a star at least for the tipping and service charge policy. I would give it a one star I'm so angry about it, but that would be misleading. They charge a 10% service fee on all items pre-tax!!!! They then turn around and expect me to tip 20% for the wait staff. Are you kidding me!!!! Am I going to be paying 30% on my meal and then pay taxes on that added 10%. You can fill in the proper f word! Even worse, forget that I am already paying 3 times the retail price on the two bottles of wine we bought. That is just insulting. My only choice since they wouldn't remove it, was to only tip 10%, which shafted my waiter. Just going all the wrong directions. Read the room people. Americans are sick of your tip gouging. Hands down the best lunch or dinner is here. I stopped in for lunch and it did not disappoint. The top sirloin was fantastic with perfectly cooked asparagus and mashed potatoes that were slightly chunky. The meal was served with au jus that made it perfect. Birthday dinner for my nephew last night. We got there early to enjoy some fancy mixology. There were seven in our party and we did our best to sample all of the special cocktails. Me? I stick with the classic Sip Smith London Dry gin martini up with one Olive. Tip: the regular olives are just okay and unstuffed! Get the blue cheese stuffed olives. Ambiance is classic old school steakhouse and this one has been a Seattle institution since I can remember. The second owner has done the impossible he has improved on perfection. My husband and I have been long time customers (over 25 years) of this restaurant. Over the years we have felt it is declining but wanted to keep supporting them. After our experience last night and spending another $250.00 on a very very poor meal, we will never go back. My martini was so watered down that it had no flavor. My husband's salmon was so over cooked that it was completely dried out and was served with mashed potatoes, vs the baked potato he asked for. My prawn scampi dish was cold and the prawns were tough. They tried to make things right but that forced us to eat in shifts which was very disruptive to our meal. They offered us "free" dessert but not being dessert eaters, this gesture unfortunately did not make up for the exorbitant amount of money they charge for food, money we chose to spend but had hoped it would be a delicious meal. My comment to my husband as we left was that Chipotle has better food. We should have just gone there. This is very sad to us but it seems indicative to most everything today ... very high costs for very sub par food, even at the Met. read more

I came to this restaurant based on a recommendation from a local. I will say that I did arrive early for my reservation and they were able to seat me early which was great. Had I known that I was gonna be stuck at the restaurant for over 3 1/2 hours. I definitely wouldn't have gone. It took over an hour just to get the soups that we ordered. My waiter who was well-versed in steak knowledge was seldom seen and kept making recommendations that we said we didn't want and asked him to stop making. The snow beef that I purchased 4ozs of for $130 came out freezing cold and unenjoyable. It definitely was not worth the price at all. My party of 4 agreed the steaks had no flavor. The mac & cheese was midgrade. The bone marrow was delicious. I did appreciate the bone marrow and having an extra bone. It was also a great choice. I think I had an ample amount of bone marrow, which is usually rare at nice restaurants so that's great. The glaze bacon was disgusting. I was disappointed I ordered that Glazed Bacon and if we're being 100% honest the best part of the entire meal was the apple pie. Overall, the 4 people and myself agreed that I wasted over $1,100 on dinner. Luckily I went before I was planning to host a big dinner there. I got a medium rare filet mignon with asparagus this time and it was certified broke da mouth, a bangah! Others also ordered the ribeye + shared a porterhouse and everyone was happy with their selections. We also shared an order of the roasted baby carrots + mac & cheese and those were also GAS. Meat was prepared as ordered and the whiskey infused NY steak was the winner for me. It was flavorful and meat was tender. After we finished our entrees and the table was cleared, Bruno walked out with a crème brulée with a lit candle for my daughter, which I thought was a nice touch. Yes, there are still restaurants around that provide a complimentary dessert to acknowledge a special occasion! Bruno did a wonderful job providing great service to each of his tables. It's obvious he enjoys what does and does it well. This may seem like a review of Bruno and not of our meal or the restaurant, but our experience was the whole package - delicious food in a fine dining atmosphere served by caring staff. The steaks were a good cut, but the rest of the food was flavorless, I mean everything from the baked potato to the sides were just not like they used to be. We went back thinking it was just a busy time and yes the service was better, but the food was just average; not even close to before. It became apparent when I went to El Gaucho's in Tacoma and I was blown away. El Gaucho was never even close to being as good as the Met. Then today, my co-workers said they went to the Met over the weekend and they food was below average, not like it used to be, was their exact words. They said the service was excellent and the waiter overheard it was their birthdays and brought them dessert on the house. But, they said they will not be going back because the price did not match the food quality anymore and I was just going to give them another chance. I really hope someone reads this and makes the necessary changes. I don't mind dumping money at the Met, I have taken most if not all of my out of town guests here, but not anymore. It has my favorite ambiance in all of Seattle's steakhouses -- plush velvet green booths, rich wood-heavy decor, and an old-school charm that makes it feel timeless, vintage, and intimate. Unfortunately, we were initially seated in a less desirable booth near the restrooms, however the staff was accommodating when we requested to move to the main dining area. Lam was charismatic, knowledgeable, and attentive! His superb service was a highlight of our dining experience. Thank you! Drinks: we ordered a A5 Old-Fashioned, The Met Manhattan, and The Usual. All of them were phenomenal and worth it! The A5 is SUPER rich and fatty, so it's an acquired taste -- if you're an adventurous drinker. We started with the Roasted Bone Marrow, which comes with hazelnut romesco sauce, pickled shallot, capers, and grilled crostini. The serving spoon was too large for the bone, making it a bit of a messy ordeal. The bone marrow was silky and indulgent, the crostini had a great crunch, and the toppings' bright acidity cut through the richness nicely! Def my favorite dish besides the steak. The Dungeness and King Crab Cakes were fine, but nothing special. The apple slaw and citrus butter sauce definitely elevated the dish. I would get these if you love crab cakes, otherwise this will be a skip for me next time. Onto the star of the night -- the 40 oz American Wagyu Long Bone Ribeye ($205, comes sliced, includes two sides). It was buttery, tender, and more than enough for two people! I've been to Metropolitan Grill a couple of times before. This time around, I went to the Met Grill for the 2025 Meet at the Met deal which is only available to redeem Sundays- Thursdays. This is a deal that they were offering: receive two complimentary dinner entrees PER 4 guests (lowest value) the same evening on us. The registration form is normally available the end of the year and is available the following year for the first month. If you decide to order from the "Dinner for Two" option - which I think is the best bang for the buck, that will count towards the two complimentary dinners. The restaurant also has valet parking for $16 and you can charge it towards your bill. Just make sure to give the ticket to your server to add. With a party of 6, we came to Met Grill to celebrate a birthday and to use the deal. We were greeted and got seated right away. The service was top notch, took care of us and had no complaints. We ordered individual starters and family style entrees, sides, & desserts for the table. Starters: Wedge salad, Caesar salad - came with fresh anchovies, clam chowder - was too salty for us, and French onion soup - the soup was amazing, came out extra hot. Entrees & Sides: Dinner for two: Longbone Ribeye and Bone-in Fillet. We basically got (2) orders of the Longbone Ribeye for the price of one. The dinner for two came with (2) sides and the bone-in filet came with (1) side to choose from. We ordered the following: (2) mash potatoes, (2) sautéed mushrooms, (1) mac and cheese. All of the sides were good and there were no complaints. The steaks all came out precut, perfectly charred, and grilled to perfection. My favorite was the bone-in filet as it was softer than the ribeye. All of this was enough to feed 6 people. We also got a free dessert for the birthday girl and ordered the nine-layer chocolate cake. The chocolate cake was moist, came with vanilla ice-cream and perfect for sharing. What an incredible evening spent with great company. We've been out of town the past 6 months so we returned to Seattle and went for dinner with our friends. Metropolitan Grill was an excellent choice. This is a place that you can celebrate birthdays and anniversaries, or also go for a romantic date night. Their seating accommodates small and large groups. You're greeted with a smile and coat check. The lighting is dim, giving a romantic or fancy vibe. Our server was outstanding and gave stellar recommendations. We had several of their cocktails and wines, and no complaints about any of them. The food.. DELICIOUS! I had the snow beef filet and the meat literally MELTS IN YOUR MOUTH. And don't sleep on their sides... those mashed potatoes... so creamy and filled with flavor (mostly butter and garlic, my two favorites!). The carrots were also done nicely, flavorful and easy to bite into. I can't rave enough about this place! You're definitely going to drop some dollars here, but I firmly believe the food and experience make it well worth it. read more
