We decided to have dinner here after a late night baseball game. It was one of the only restaurants open until 11pm, walkable and we were still able to make a reservation online for 10pm for 3. This place was stunning from the moment we walked in and mind you we weren't dressed to the nines lol. Nevertheless we felt very welcomed and entertained by our server Matt, who is hilarious and finds a way to make us laugh at every interaction. The food is the real star of the show. We had way more food than we were expecting to get simply from having so much fun and how delicious everything was. We had the bone marrow to start, ceasar salads, NA drinks, oysters, steaks and finished everything off with bananas foster made in front of us by the manager himself! Best steak I've ever had at a restaurant. This place is expensive but you get what you pay for and I went in prepared for the price tag. The drinks were great, not overly strong, but by no means weak. I had two martinis and my husband had a whiskey and coke. Our server was so kind and checked in regularly. He seemed really knowledgeable about the food and there was no lag time. My baked potato was amazing with all the fixings- cheese, sour cream, green onions. He was rather impatient when I asked for his recommendations for the temperature of the ribeye - I usually like my steaks done rare, but I had heard that fattier cuts like ribeye benefit from more heat to render out the fat. I ended up getting medium rare which was perfect, but he basically snapped at me for asking. Yikes. Sorry I need a little insight from my waiter, who is supposed to wait on me! This colored the perception of my meal greatly unfortunately. I love how they included flaky salt with their house bread. The house bread was very pretty as it had a pattern from the banneton. Lighter in texture though, without much of a crispy crust. The Classic Caesar Salad was great. Not many places include whole anchovy fillets. The lettuce was crisp, and the croutons crunchy! It was light dressed and included a grilled lemon half if you wanted more flavor. Very refreshing. The ribeye was very tender and flavorful. There was the perfect sear on it, and while I didn't know how long it was aged, it clearly met the goal of increasing the complexity of the meaty flavor. It was super beefy, and the fat was so tender. No gristle here! The asparagus spears were the largest I've ever seen, yet they were still tender. At this price point I expect the service and food to adjust proportionally; I EXPECT good food, great steaks, & attentive service. And the Met does that. What luxury steak house doesn't have a espresso machine, though? And when you throw in the compulsory 20% "service charge" the exprience degrades significantly. They have a nice wine list - and like others in the industry, they sell them at avg margins of 100% or more. In any other city, when one pays $200-$1,100 to include a bottle of wine with a meal, they are not expected to tip $40 to $220 just to POUR the wine! But you are doing that at the Met because the service charge applies to your total bill. Also, conveniently for Seattle and WA, the "service charge" is a taxable line-item - so you are ALSO paying sales tax on your compulsory "tip". So, a forced (taxed) tip - including a tip on high-margin alcohol, and an extra line at the bottom of the bill for even MORE tip, if you choose. I am normally a generous tipper (even after all of the above, I slipped the server some extra cash on an $1,800 check for 4 people) - but I am left with thoughts on the experience that are, unfortunately, not positive. I don't think I will consider the Met again - unless maybe they move out of Seattle. read more

This is a great place in Pioneer Square for happy hour. Its bar area is very large and you maybe able to find a few seats together, recommend coming in small groups. The happy hour menu is simple but has a variety of offerings. The food quality is high and prices were very fair. The service was quick and friendly. I highly recommend for happy hour. Got into Seattle at night, and this was the place we came to for dinner. The Metropolitan Grill has that old-school vibe, where they can check your coats right when you walk in! I haven't seen this for a while unless I was on the East coast, so to see it in Seattle I thought it was pretty nice. The servers are dressed like back in the days with nicely black suits and just a polished look. How I wish I lived back in the day! The food here is divine and I would suggest this place to everyone, if you want a delicious steak and a nice baked potato this place is the one. The vibe is legit and they are good, there aren't that many places like this around and I wish they had something like this in Los Angeles. Everything went very well, we had a delightful waitress. It was my birthday celebration and we got an intimate booth close to the front but cut off from everyone. They were busy as it was a Saturday, and we sat down probably 20 min after our reservation. Drinks were great and food was delicious. I got a rib eye and she got the special. We got Mac n cheese, baked potatoe, asparagus, and mushrooms. Steak was cooked exactly how I ordered, Mac and cheese was great and mushrooms were perfect with the steak. Asparagus was cooked really well but just wasn't our thing. He fish dish was well put together but was dry for her taste, flavor and everything was great just a tad over done we felt. IMPORTANT: They do have a 20% surcharge that is split with the kitchen and server. So if you don't add to it, your server only gets 10% tip if I remember right. I personally wish restaurants would just raise their prices to accommodate the % surcharge instead of adding it at the end. You might as well charge food separate and put those prices in the menu, and then add 40% for labor. It's really no different. All in all I recommend. read more

From my nephew Wyatt, We came here to celebrate my Tio Brian's birthday. From the moment we walked in everyone was so nice and welcoming. Craig is the host he was very funny, kind and had very good stories. Our server (I forgot his name but he was amazing) took us on a tour of the restaurant and the vintage room. I really liked the painting on the wall! The bathrooms were super clean. My Shirley Temple was amazing. My fish and chips we're so crisp and crunchy. The steak cooked medium rare was amazing. I couldn't believe it. For dessert we had cheesecake and lava cake and they even gave us kids a small ice cream with chocolate syrup. I have been here numerous times over the last two decades for various reasons and occasions and I cannot say I had even one subpar experience. Whether it is for casual happy hour in the bar area, business lunch/dinner, large group event, brunch before the Seahawks game, their service and food preparation have always been top notch. It's such a safe choice too. They literally have something for everyone and can accommodate pretty much any food restrictions you can think of. They also have a great wine and whisky list and offer some beer on tap as well. The atmosphere is not casual per se but you do not need to dress to come here. My husband and I came here to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary and we loved it. It was easily within walking distance of our hotel which was downtown. We were greeted with friendly staff members from the second we walked inside to when we left. The food was delicious. We got the prime tenderloin bites and that by far has to be one of our favorites, so juicy and it melted in our mouths. I got a NY Striploin and my husband got the filet combination and we got a Mac and Cheese to share. I don't know why I am writing a review for Metroplitan Grill other than for the sack of completeness and to remind me 'what I ate previously'. Met Grill is the premier steakhouse in Seattle. Hands down. Everyone knows this. Cost be dayamned. They are simply great with what they do. For this occasion, it was hubby's birthday, and it was time for a return visit. Making a reservation was easy. We are led through the old school classy brown wood restaurant. Before you leave the host/hostess area, be sure to gawk at the celebrities photos who have dined here. Green Day caught my eye. Our white coated server was attentive. With our order of the Châteaubriand, she said it takes 40 minutes and suggested we order something while we wait. It was a cold day, so we both ordered soups. Alas, the soups weren't necessary. The Châteaubriand arrived in 20+ minutes, cut and served by a dedicated server in black and bow-tie. Cool. We were too full to order desserts, but my hubby was gifted a crème brûlée nonetheless for his birthday. Thank you! Per their website: "A 20% service charge is included on each check." Plenty of lobster pieces were in this bowl. Though it is good, I will not order in the future and just wait for the steak. Châteaubriand, $195 - 5 Stars Menu: 24oz, Carved tableside. Classic cliff sauce, Parmesan tomato crowns, mushroom caps I completely underestimated the beauty of this dish. Didn't realize this place was huge as we erected in a back room so it was pretty quiet. Staff very attentive. We had a 3 course meal with salad, entree and dessert. Went here for a business-ish dinner and ordered the prime & American wagyu filet combo with baked potato and the hot apple pie. Overall, the steak was cooked well and I enjoyed the tableside service for the baked potato! It was nice that they fluffed it up and added the toppings in as a little show, but it wasn't as hype as some of the reviews made it out to be (although maybe that's because I didn't get cheese sauce or sour cream?). Apple pie flambé was absolutely crazy to watch, but I also didn't feel that the apple pie was necessarily a can't miss dish. The walnut crust was delicious though and I liked that you could taste a bit of the rum that they used for the flambé in the caramelized apples. One nice thing is that most of the seating for smaller parties is all booth seating, so it's a great place for a date night! Service charge is included so you don't need to tip. They do tax you on top of the service charge though so watch out for that! For parking, I'd recommend parking in the Wells Fargo garage across the street. A real Seattle institution. I can remember some of the great times I've had here. The steak is of course phenomenal. I remember so well a visitor from Asia just staring at the Texas Long Bone Rib Eye. Delicious of course, but mainly the look on his face when he saw the bone literally off the plate. The service is great here and the atmosphere is classic old style steakhouse. I keep expecting to see the Godfather walk in the door. This is one of those places where if you ask what steak you should get, the waiter, just rolls back his eyes and says, "of course the T-bone and then rhapsodically explains why, perfectly filet mignon and then the flavorful outside. The ambiance strikes the perfect balance between classic elegance and contemporary comfort, but it was the food and service that truly stole the show. I ordered the bone-in filet, and I can honestly say it was one of the best steaks I've ever had. To complement the meal, we were fortunate to receive a wine recommendation from their sommelier, who was both knowledgeable and incredibly approachable. The Metropolitan's wine list is impressive on its own, but the personal touch of expert guidance made it even more exceptional. The sommelier even gave me her card because I asked about her experience and she told me to reach out with questions. We ended the night with carrot cake--a showstopper. This is a tough review. I give the service, ambiance and food 5 stars. Everything we ate was quite delicious and served in style. I absolutely have to dock it a star at least for the tipping and service charge policy. I would give it a one star I'm so angry about it, but that would be misleading. They charge a 10% service fee on all items pre-tax!!!! They then turn around and expect me to tip 20% for the wait staff. Are you kidding me!!!! Am I going to be paying 30% on my meal and then pay taxes on that added 10%. You can fill in the proper f word! Even worse, forget that I am already paying 3 times the retail price on the two bottles of wine we bought. That is just insulting. My only choice since they wouldn't remove it, was to only tip 10%, which shafted my waiter. Just going all the wrong directions. Read the room people. Americans are sick of your tip gouging. Hands down the best lunch or dinner is here. I stopped in for lunch and it did not disappoint. The top sirloin was fantastic with perfectly cooked asparagus and mashed potatoes that were slightly chunky. The meal was served with au jus that made it perfect. Their ambiance is classic upscale with a friendly vibe. The flights were fantastic and do not pass the lunch martini flight or the port flight for dessert which pairs perfectly with the creme brûlée. Birthday dinner for my nephew last night. We got there early to enjoy some fancy mixology. There were seven in our party and we did our best to sample all of the special cocktails. Me? I stick with the classic Sip Smith London Dry gin martini up with one Olive. Tip: the regular olives are just okay and unstuffed! Get the blue cheese stuffed olives. Ambiance is classic old school steakhouse and this one has been a Seattle institution since I can remember. The second owner has done the impossible he has improved on perfection. I could wax on about how great each appetizer was and each entree and each dessert...suffice to say there is only one other steakhouse in Seattle as nearly perfect as The Met. Eye catching wood paneling with brass accents, & green velvet seating booths. Very inviting atmosphere, definitely gives off high class steakhouse ambiance. The dress code is business casual attire. Service is exceptional. Our waitress was amazing & so attentive. I had the 8 oz filet mignon and it was flavorful & juicy. The tropic sunset drink was a great pairing with my meal. I really enjoyed my baked potato with all the fixings too. I recommend the Brussel sprouts as it had a combination of bacon, Parmesan cheese, and pickled onions a unique taste that didn't disappoint. The best steak and service in town. It's true! No matter what form you order your meat, whether in a salad, a sandwich, or a filet, it's going to be juicy, tender, and flavorful. I love that they display the aging steaks at the entrance. They also have framed photos of all the celebrities patrons. The Met is a 206 classic and probably a top 3 steakhouse in western WA--maybe even the best. Service is always 10/10 here, and the food is always on point. I got a medium rare filet mignon with asparagus this time and it was certified broke da mouth, a bangah! Others also ordered the ribeye + shared a porterhouse and everyone was happy with their selections. We also shared an order of the roasted baby carrots + mac & cheese and those were also GAS. Overall tho, I'll give it a 4.5/5 just because IMO it's just never financially worth it to go out for steaks when you could do it just as well at home for 1/3 the price. read more

We started with the crabcakes, which come 3 to an order. I had the Delmonico, birthday girl had her usual filet mignon and hubby had the recommended whiskey infused NY steak that was on the specials list. For our side, we ordered the Brussels Sprouts. Meat was prepared as ordered and the whiskey infused NY steak was the winner for me. It was flavorful and meat was tender. After we finished our entrees and the table was cleared, Bruno walked out with a crème brulée with a lit candle for my daughter, which I thought was a nice touch. Yes, there are still restaurants around that provide a complimentary dessert to acknowledge a special occasion! Bruno did a wonderful job providing great service to each of his tables. It's obvious he enjoys what does and does it well. This may seem like a review of Bruno and not of our meal or the restaurant, but our experience was the whole package - delicious food in a fine dining atmosphere served by caring staff. This is a difficult review to write because this has been my go-to place for almost two decades! I have been there so many times that many of the staff know me when I walk in. Anyhow, ever since the head chef (Eric) left for the corporate office, I feel the Met has been in a downfall. We have been there twice in the last few years and I was not impressed. New Years the service was super slow, yeah I know they are busy, but not an excuse. The steaks were a good cut, but the rest of the food was flavorless, I mean everything from the baked potato to the sides were just not like they used to be. We went back thinking it was just a busy time and yes the service was better, but the food was just average; not even close to before. It became apparent when I went to El Gaucho's in Tacoma and I was blown away. El Gaucho was never even close to being as good as the Met. Then today, my co-workers said they went to the Met over the weekend and they food was below average, not like it used to be, was their exact words. They said the service was excellent and the waiter overheard it was their birthdays and brought them dessert on the house. But, they said they will not be going back because the price did not match the food quality anymore and I was just going to give them another chance. I really hope someone reads this and makes the necessary changes. I don't mind dumping money at the Met, I have taken most if not all of my out of town guests here, but not anymore. At that point, what's the point of happy hour pricing? You're essentially paying full price for food that's... mid at best. Not bad, not great -- just average, which isn't what you'd expect from a place with this kind of reputation. The service, to be fair, was solid. Friendly, attentive -- no complaints there. But the space feels tired, worn-down, and in need of an update. There's nothing wrong with The Met, but there's also nothing memorable about it anymore. Absolutely loved the romantic ambience and great service! Came for a date night on a busy Sunday evening (with a reservation) and there seemed to be a lot of families/tourists, it was quite loud. Enjoyed the beef tartare, but especially loved the tender, melt in your mouth wagyu special they had.
