I spoke with Todd Walden for about a day regarding a pool design. The following day, I let him know I decided to move forward with another company after comparing options. His response was unexpected and unprofessional and cursed me out after I mentioned I went with someone else, including profanity directed toward me. I understand contractors value their time, but homeowners also need to explore multiple quotes before making a decision. Did my pool and outdoor area, they sub out EVERYTHING...the pavers were never flat and have only gotten worse, so bad you can easily see it, they are terrible! They messed up on the leveling with the yard si it's very mismatched. Pool light broke after 1.5 years, then the pool had leaks around almost all the fixtures. My pool in my rental built in the 90s has zero issues! read more

Overpromised and under delivered. Promised 12 week project time to add a hot tub into existing pool and replace deck with new tile. We are now at 28 weeks and still not finished. From planning to execution, the Hive Team (Ben, Robert, Teddy, Steve) was attentive, professional and ethical as they brought our vision to life. He spent time with us in our home, even connecting his laptop to our big-screen TV so we could see our design come to life. Super professional, Super friendly, Constant Communication. Project was done on time, on budget, and the pool is gorgeous! Steve and Teddy went Above and Beyond!!! My wife and I started the process of putting in a pool earlier this year. We interviewed multiple pool contractors and ultimately chose Hive. Our first interaction was with Ben. He handled the negotiations with the utmost professionalism and made himself available to us whenever we had questions or wanted to rework the design. Ben was amazing.. He is ultimately the reason we chose Hive. After selecting Hive to build our pool, we couldn't have been happier with the entire process. Ted and Steve were our contacts throughout, they always answered our phone calls and answered our questions. We also heard from them constantly about status updates of workers or sub contractors. As is expected, there were speed bumps, but due to the constant communication from Steve and Teddy we always knew what was going on, and when people would be at our house doing work. The sub contractors were all polite and treated our property with respect. We also added to the design mid project (rock on wall, additional paver patio, etc). Ben promptly adjusted for our changes, and material was on site quickly to keep the project on time. When I asked him what he is doing he gives me a bs answer that he thought he had an easement to come on to my property. Problems on top of problems. Still living with construction. It's now week 40 of our 12 week contract. We signed our contract in mid March. Construction finally started in mid May. It was supposed to be done by the end of July. Deck drainage problems, pool filtration problems, spa bubbler & in floor cleaning system broken, pool overflow never plumbed, cabinetry not level and trim falling off, damaged appliances, no faucet, granite cut too short & in too many places. read more

I called for pricing and spoke with one of the sales people. I didn't get his name but I'm sure there aren't many. I explained what I was looking for and told him that I already had a pool design because the company that I was working with went out of business and I was looking for someone to replace them. When he gave me the ballpark of their pricing I told him that it was higher than what I had from other companies and started to thank him for his time. He then said "yeah, well maybe that's why we are still in business and the company you picked isn't". I told him a lot of people were hurt financially by this company closing and he flippantly said "yeah, I'm sure they were". I would never choose this company and would warn others to not choose them either. There are a lot of companies out there with better pricing and MUCH better customer service. If that is how they go about trying to get a new customer I can only imagine how it goes when you are a customer. No thanks! read more

On August 27, 2019 my wife and I approved a pool design, selected materials and hired Hive Outdoor Living to build a lagoon style pool with a paver top and a screened in enclosure at our residence in Land O Lakes, Florida. The total project amount was $63,408.88. On Jun 14, 2020, Hive Outdoor Living remedied the last pool problem and finished the job. 298 days or 9 months and 24 days. read more

I have never posted a negative comment about a business however, I need to tell you stay away from Hive Outdoor. We contracted with them 14 months ago and the project is not complete. It has been a stressful, disappointing and expensive experience. The pool remodel is not finished yet, several things were done incorrectly, failed inspections that have not been corrected at time of this posting, expired promised dates of completion, etc. They were paid in full in December 2021, stating non payment would stop completion. Since final payment we have not received any communication from them and less, come back to property to finish. Again, I strongly urge you to not use Hive Outdoor Living. read more

We have heard from many people that companies do not stand by their work, and after writing a bad review Hive had every reason to not help us and we are very happy to say that despite having issues they were willing to come back many times to rectify our concerns. read more

Mediocracy at its finest. Extremely unprofessional in the way they approach just about everything. Hive took a full 2 years to complete the project, and 1 full year after we were originally told it was to be completed. The original project manager, Steve, hardly ever came on site and was impossible to get ahold of. There was a period of roughly 4 months where he never called me back and I had to search out the owners information in order to find out what was going on. 14 months into the project they had to redesign the deck because the project manager never took the time to vet the drawings and the elevations weren't accurate. Instead of apologizing, they complained about how it was going to cost them more money in concrete and stucco and asked me if I was willing to pay more. They didn't send anyone out to prep the site before gunite and I had to spend hours scraping gunite off my eaves and fence. Their response was "it is what it is". They destroyed my neighbors fence during the dig which isn't a huge ordeal because accidents happen, but it took them several months to replace it. They tried more than once to get one of their handymen out to replace just the broken section with a cheap Home Depot panel which didn't even match the original fence. I had to approach Robert about it after the city started sending me violation notices. Hive never installed construction fence around the project and I had to field court dates from the city because of multiple violations. They fired 3 project managers during the course of the build and each new person that took over was about as unreachable, unreliable, and unprofessional as the previous. The majority of the subs that I spoke with told me they were either ending their relationship with Hive or strongly considering it in the near future. Almost every single project that was done had to be fixed or redone. They eliminated the original overflow because they insisted the autofill had a built in overflow that would do the same thing. Unsurprisingly, the 1/2" pvc overflow connected to the autofill was worthless so they then had to core drill a new overflow pipe. They didnt put any hydraulic cement around the new pipe or seal it so it leaks. A pool return had to be moved 5 times because these guys couldnt figure out where it should go. They ended up setting the relocated return too far from the pool wall and it looks horrendous. The rest of the returns were all installed crooked and sticking out way to far from the pool wall so the result is large anthill like protrusions in the interior finish which looks absolutely terrible. I had to fight with them to get the worst one redone, which ultimately was a mistake because the interior finish patch is absolutely terrible. They never installed the threaded fitting for the bubbler before interior finish so they had to chip all that up and then do repairs afterwards, which like the rest of the repairs, are obviously patches and look terrible. They got hydraulic cement on the sunshelf during this repair and decided the best fix was to pour 3 gallons of muriatic acid in the pool to burn it away. Unfortunately, this resulted in large discolorations and striations across the entire pool. To say I am disappointed with this company would be a drastic understatement. Fixing all of these issues was a struggle because all Hive wanted to do was fight and argue about it. We gave them tens of thousands of dollars and got nothing but a headache in return.
