The BBQ pork here is a step change better than most. It's succulent, tender, savoury, and ever so sweet. The chicken and duck were good too, but not in the same "step change" way (and I personally found the bones and it's fragments annoying to eat around). Cash only, no frills shop with THE best HK BBQ I've ever had. Don't go expecting great ambience or service -- it's a hustle and bustle, hole-in-the-wall where you're here just for the good food. We got half lean and half fatty cuts, expecting the leaner cuts to be on the dryer and tougher side as I had experienced in the past eating HK BBQ but I was shocked that even the lean pieces were tender and juicy. Only downsides were having to pay extra for ginger scallion oil and the chili oil but I honestly did not mind after that delicious BBQ experience. If you are ever in the Vancouver area, highly recommend making your way down to Richmond to try this place out. Wow. This place has some great cuts of bbq. The flavor, tenderness, just the overall quality of the bbq is near perfect! I came through the takeaway line which moved extremely quickly; there's a separate line for dine in and it looked like quite a wait (dinner hours). So glad I got to try this place's roast meats on their last day before they go on vacation for a few weeks! It's a hole in the wall, under the parking lot of the Superstore, but it's Richmond's secret that's been out from all the locals and visitors who dine here. The is a line for the takeout (long) and another line for dine in (we waited for 15 mins at around 11:45am on a Saturday so not too bad). We got just the meats (roast pork, roast duck , bbq pork, and soy sauce chicken) to try out and the portion was definitely quite large (I think we got almost half a chicken for the supposedly portion sized order). All of the meats were great, and it is one of the very few times where the HK style BBQ pork has good caramelization. The restaurant is packed with people! Sunday brunch-time we showed up around 10:30 to our originally-on-the-schedule dimsum restaurant only to find out that they are reservation only. HK BBQ Master was on our list for a different day but was pretty close by, opening soon, and easily swapped in for a future reservation at the other place, so our family of 7 piled into the rental car and drove over to downtown Richmond in the hopes of trying some delicious charsiu. As noobs we definitely did not realize that the dine-in line was separate from the take-out line, and an exasperated Cantonese auntie waved us to the right entrance after we waited in the wrong line for 5 minutes or so. Luckily we were able to put our names down first on the clipboard at the appropriate entrance and right at 11AM (when the place opens) we were led inside the small dining room. We wanted to try a little bit of everything, so we ordered 4 heaping bowls of rice, 4 bowls of soup, 1 order of greens, and legit every meat plate they had on the menu: #1 honey bbq pork (charsiu, we asked for fatty cut), #2 crispy roasted pork belly, #3 famous bbq duck, #5 soya chicken, #6 sauteed free range chicken (basically scallion chicken, served cold), and #7 bbq spare ribs (more traditional charsiu that we're used to). By far my favorite was the #1 honey bbq pork. Some others at our table found the fatty cut a little too fatty but it was perfect to me, so tender and flavorful and actually not too sweet, which is sometimes my complaint with the HK-style BBQ that I can get closer to home. Eating that honey pork was totally a revelation for me and I'll be searching for charsiu to match that level from now on :') Also excellent was the cold scallion chicken and the famous bbq duck - both were super flavorful, super moist, and on point. The soya chicken was just okay; a bit bland and dry, and the crispy roasted pork belly was good but not so elevated that I felt like I couldn't get something similar in quality and flavor in Texas. Same with the BBQ spare ribs, which tasted like the charsiu I'm more familiar with getting at home. The rice bowls were huge, our party of 7 had more than enough with 4 orders. And the soup was also really delicious; there was a bit of a sweet element to it that my MIL loved. We ordered right at open and all our food was out on the table in 5 minutes; we were in and out of the dining room within 40 minutes and on to our next vacation destination.
