This is my go-to Hmong owned restaurant in Wausau. Some locals I know rate a restaurant based on how their pho tastes like and that's all they can say. You can eat way more different items than just pho here. They have everything from laab to Hmong sausage with sticky rice and of course, egg rolls. Ok, food is pretty average however their menu is extensive. The food tastes so, SO much better than the Hmong delis in the same area. Their pepper dip is delicious. Great location; right on South 3rd Avenue where I grew up as a kid. Private parking. The establishment was an old supper club back in my day. Nostalgic. The ambience need some work. Everything is dated and dark. Like a grandparents basement. I was bothered with the group sitting next us. One guy spoke as if his buddies were standing a half block away. Our server was quick on his feet and helpful with the menu. He answered questions promptly and gave us a heads up if an item would be delayed in preparing. So helpful. This is hand's down the best tasting and most authentic pho I've ever had at any restaurant!!! I ordered the large and couldn't finish it. The broth was delicious even before adding anything. They are generous with the meat and noodles. And, the price was more than fair. We also had the papaya which was delicious!!! I wish I could go back but I live out of state. The service was friendly and prompt. The restaurant is cozy and comfortable. We sat at a booth that allowed us to look out at a beautiful tree across the street. This is, without a doubt, the best S.E. Asian restaurant for easily a few hundred miles. That said, this is a family restaurant, not a fancy type of jernt, so don't be put off if the servers aren't in matching costumes, and the attitude is kinda casual, you came for the food, right?! Oh man, the food is unreal. Pretty much anything you care for will be prepared right then, with fresh ingredients. Personally, the Larb is a favorite, the egg-rolls are always good, but the Pho, man, that's it for me. I've lived on the stuff from South-East Asia to Seattle, and I've not found better. Try the Pho Hmong, unfreaking real! What can I say, I'm sold. We can see the Thomas Street expansion stakes outside, so either sample this place now, or wait a year of so at their yet-to-be-identified site. While the takeout was edible, I'm not likely going to order here again. The menu posted here is old/wrong. Ordered two entrees and some eggs rolls but neither were on the new menu, which can be found on Facebook. Egg rolls (pork and spicy) were cheap but just ok. The spicy one had a nice kick but mostly just basic rolls with a nice/crisp wrapper. The house fried rice was also just ok. Whatever noodle dish I ended up with looked sad and was very gummy. I don't know what it was (originally I wanted the glass noodle dish) but I'd veer away from noodle dishes after trying that. This was not terrible...but it's nothing I'd want to try again. read more

This is our go-to place for pho now. They have the best pho broth and papaya salad in town. Their spicy egg rolls are really good too. Great tasting food for a great price! The spring rolls are fresh and tasty, good dipping sauce. Loved the red curry dish. Just a hint of cocunut made it sweet and savory. Chicken pad Thai was okay. My go to for Hmong egg rolls and spring rolls. The Pad Thai is well above average. Pho dishes are delicious and full of fresh ingredients. The building is older. Many remember it as Bills Fine Food. Oh boy...let's see. On a positive note the egg rolls were good. We ordered the spicy fried rice and paid two extra dollars for roasted pork. The rice was super dry and the pork was all fat. Not good. Secondly we had the spicy Thai stir fry. Half cup of "stir fry" to two cups of rice. Rip off, not that good. Been to Thailand numerous times...not Thai food.! Last but not least the Pho...lol. Horrible service. Tried it 3 times and every time they messed up. My 1st time there, it took about 1hr before we got our food and they forgot we order appetizers. The 2nd time it took about 1hr again. The 3rd time we went only Because pho76 was closed. The gentlemen who works the cash register took our order, he is very unorganized and gets side tracked very often. Took about 45 mins to get our food. I ordered the pho w/o tripe, and he gives me a bowl of pho with tripe, which I suppose was ok because I would just take it out. Later he came back and tells me I have to give the bowl back to him because he gave me the wrong order. So he takes my pho away and brings back another. if I could give this 0 stars I would, I went here to get coconut bubble tea with extra tapioca pearls; they charged me 5 dollars for the small tiny drink that was half way full and there was VERY little tapioca pearls inside- less than 10! Great food, very friendly and courteous service. I am usually not a big fan of eggrolls, but I was really impressed by their creations. I had freshly prepared chicken eggrolls and they were delicious! I also had a bowl of Pho which was a nice change of pace after 5 days in central Wisconsin. I had an interesting conversation with the co-owner of the restaurant, Lee, who was happy to share the story of her family's journey from Laos through Thailand to the U.S., which is also depicted in a large, beautifully embroidered mural hanging on the wall behind the register, hand-made by her mother. I came for the eggrolls as we were rolling through town but I was blown away by the sesame balls that are made fresh by the Hmong Owner's Mother everyday by hand in the morning. I would almost drive the 3 hours to Wausau Wi from the Twin Cities for these huge toasty and soft sesame balls. This place looks like it was once a diner or possible small supper club. There is a small koi pond in front and the steps could use some work but interior has booths and plenty of seating as well as dance floor and karaoke equipment. The ladies bathroom is a nice 1950's pink tile, small but clean. We were seated quickly and we ordered the egg rolls and spicy pork and veggie. Unfortunately Hmong style of egg rolls are made before hand and then kept in a warming shelf for you to view and for take out, but it that makes them soft in texture and a little spongey. The flavor was good. A lot of black pepper seems to be used and both the spicy pork and veggie egg rolls had great flavor though they are thinner then their Vietnamese cousins by about half the size. Good but better if you wait 7 minutes and get it finger sizzling hot order. Ask for it freshly made! You will love the crunch! We ordered the Tom Yum, Glass Noodle Salad, and (red) Chicken Curry soup which is commonly called Kapoon. However, the stand out dish was the Tom Yum. Bright and sour and hot with plenty of vegetables with enough to fed two people and a bowl of rice to stretch it out. Really nice. The Kapoon was average, a nice mixture of noodles and vegetables but the curry lacked the punch and brightness of the Tom Yum. It seems that the Thai style dishes are a little more rounded out. The glass noodle salad was overcooked and gloppy and there was very little seasoning. The owner who waited on us was rather unapologetic and yes, every "culture" has its own style but overcooked rice noodles will remain lumpy and on my plate as they were served and not eaten. You will have to ask for chopsticks they are not available at the table but they have all the condiments you could want to doctor your pho or noodle dishes. But let's move on to the sesame balls. There were only two of those glorious bad boys left. I took them to go. They had been sitting in the heating shelf for most of the day but they were still crispy and chewy when I bit into them and the roasted sesame seeds were so lovely in the mouth that I just mawed at them like a sloth eating mango with his arms tied behind is back. Amazing! My boyfriend said the same, I have had these before at dim sum but never have I had ones so big like Buddha balls and so good. So go early get a few because I was told they are only made once a day and in limited quantities because they are labor intensive. Remember to swallow as you drool, I mean chew. read more
