Food is excellent. Had the sesame chicken and it was very good. It had a sweet sauce, with plenty of sesame seeds on top. The chicken was tender, and cooked just right. My friend had the Pepper steak, which is one of her favorite dishes to get at a chinese restaurant. She said it was slightly salty for her taste, but otherwise very good. We ate every bite. The lunch special is about $6 and includes hot tea, entree, fried rice, egg roll, soup and a cookie. It is cooked to order, not left on a buffet for hours and a real server waits on you. read more

I've been to Ho Ping House numerous times for lunch since it's easy to get in and out quickly. Service is usually pretty good, although sometimes they can be a little slow when it comes to bringing / taking the check. Great lunch specials with most around $6 with soup (hot and sour is my go to), egg roll and entree. My standard is the szechuan chicken with peanuts which comes with fried rice (steamed rice on request). I'm not sure why we never think of it for dinner - I guess when it comes to Asian food, we gravitate towards our favorites (JW Chen's for Chinese and Khun Daeng for Thai). read more

My lunch at this restaurant was a last minute stop on the way to Chicago. The menu was large and had a great selection. The service was quick and we received a ton of food for a very reasonable amount of money. They were also willing to make accommodations to my meal according to my food preferences. Very pleased with my carry out from Ho Ping house. Was skeptical about only having four pieces in a crab rangoon order, but they were large and very well stuffed with cheesy imitation crab. I'd take that over six shells with little inside. The sesame chicken was also quite good. An ambient heat I hadn't had in a long time, along with lots of chicken chunks. I went on Christmas Day. They were SLAMMED! The entire staff handled chaos exceptionally well. The hot and sour soup was great, and because the kitchen was understandably busy, I was brought a second bowl whilst I waited for my entree. The hot and spicy shrimp was perfect. I love Ho Ping House! Tonight my daughter asked for take out and I had a gift card. We had orange chicken, lemon chicken, cashew chicken, and beef with black bean sauce. The beef with black bean sauce was delicious. A little spicy but not over bearing. The lemon chicken was a little more dry than in the past. TIP: They give you 10 percent off for take out. They used to have a coupon on the menu but now I thinks it's just automatic. My family complains about my Yelp reviews. PLEASE Give me a thumbs up so I can tell them to stop complaining and show them that I sometimes have good important stuff to say that people appreciate. The food really is outstanding and I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic (mostly) Chinese food in this area. We stopped by this place on a road trip to MN and were amazed by the freshness, authenticity and great prices. The standout dish was the eggplant in garlic sauce (and yes, I do tend to order this dish at every Chinese restaurant so I have a wide base of comparison) and the dish was DELICIOUS! The sauce was perfectly balanced and the eggplant (although sliced differently than what I'm used to) was cooked just right. Needless to say, this dish was the first plate to be finished. The atmosphere was also good, the waiters accommodating, and the parking was plentiful (yes, I deal with expensive or non-existent parking on a day to day basis, so I wanted to make a point of it). The man & I stopped here on our way back to CLE from CHI. Thanks to my fellow yelpers, I was able to find this place & enjoy a decent meal that off the Turnpike! The service was speedy & the waitress was very sweet. She made sure we had everything we needed. The food was good, your typical Chinese food. Decent portions. White rice on the side. The interior was clean & nice music was playing. The koi pond in the entrance was funny though because on the ceiling they had alternating multi-colored lights. My parents, husband and I went to Ho Ping House a week after the grand opening (Dec. 21) and were impressed with the decor and food. The service was a bit slow, but I imagine this will speed up as the restaurant is open longer. The crab rangoons were delicious and quite large. As my husband put it, he liked how big and flat they were because more filling could fit inside of the wrapper. We ordered the fried pork wontons and they were OK. I probably won't order them again as they were very crispy and I was expecting more of a dumping pan-fried rather than a deep-fried wonton. My husband ordered "Dragon Meet Phoenix" - a combination plate of General Tso's chicken and lobster Cantonese. The chicken was delicious and hot and the lobster was pretty good, although he didn't like all of the veggies that came with the lobster. I ordered the Szechuan chicken with peanuts and it was excellent. The chicken was quality meat and was very tender. The sauce was nice and hot with good flavor and the diced broccoli, carrots, water chestnuts and peanuts were tasty. My dad ordered the Mongolian beef - the dish with which he judges all Chinese restaurants. He seemed to enjoy the dish although didn't say it was the best he'd had. My mom ordered the beef with garlic sauce and thought it would be more savory than the sweet dish she received. I ate a bite of it and didn't think it was overly sweet. In fact, I think some soy sauce would have made it a delicious salty-sweet combo. The beef was quite tender and the broccoli in the dish looked perfectly done. I'm certain we'll eat here again. The atmosphere was very nice - if you didn't know it had been a Denny's beforehand, you would never guess with the decor they have put in. The food was good and the staff was nice - just a bit overwhelmed with the packed house. This is the best place in town to get Chinese food. My favorite thing to order is Beef and Broccoli and Chicken Lo Mein and mix it together. I've been here three times since the beginning of the pandemic and it's been great each time. I called and they said it was going to be 15 minutes and it was exactly 15 minutes. We had a pretty stellar experience here on a Thursday night strolling in as a party of nearly 30....that's right, 30 peeps. The hostess didn't bat an eye at the number and quickly starting preparing a back room that could hold us all. Though we told her we didn't all need to sit at one table, they were able to seat us together in about 4 different tables in one section. I thought for sure it would take ages to submit orders, bring drinks, serve food - but I was luckily very wrong! My family of borderline lushes went straight to the bar while the preparation started. The bartender was super cool and whipped us up some shochu concoction with lemon and cucumber. I loved it, others didn't - but huge points for effort and a quick recommendation! The wine selections weren't too bad (not great, but good for a Chinese restaurant), and we ended up ordered about 6 bottles for the group. They even set up a little drink station so we could serve ourselves. As for the food - we really enjoyed everything we tried. I'll admit - I had low expectations as I'm not the biggest fan of this particular type of cuisine. But the food tasted super fresh, light and lovely with tons of veggies mixed in. We even asked about the MSG, and they advised they do not use MSG in their food. We tried several shrimp dishes (included the shrimp toast appetizer which was awesome), a lobster dish, some mixed combo under the "specialty" section of the menu and fried rice. Nothing disappointed. Though we asked for our food to be made extra spicy, it didn't come out spicy at all, but again my expectations were not that this would compare to spicy Thai or anything. It was all still delicious. The atmosphere was very nice, probably better than most Chinese restaurants I've visited. The staff was extremely friendly and the price was decent. This is one of the better chinese restaurants my wife and I have been to, especially since chinese restaurants are a dime a dozen, however we enjoyed the atmosphere and the veggie menu options. We liked the broccoli with garlic sauce, the country style bean curd and vegetable mushu. The only reason why we don't give it 5 stars is because they don't have veggie meat and limited on the noodle entrees which the restaurants in CA have a variety of. I got takeout from Ho Ping last week and my experience was okay. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here but the food can pass if you are craving Chinese. I ordered the cashew chicken and again it was okay but not bursting with flavor as some of the other mention. However, I would order it again and ask for a little spice is added. My brother got the shrimp fried rice and was disappointed. He thought it was mushy and not really fried like other Chinese places. Lastly we ordered the egg rolls and they were just okay. They were smaller than normal but otherwise okay. I don't think I would order them again. read more

My first visit, ordered General Tso's and an egg roll for carry-out. Food was ready fast. The General Tso's was very dry. The flavor was good, and with some actual sauce might even have been above-average (spicy, not as syrupy as a lot of spots), but it was hard to tell. The egg roll was small. I have been to Ho Ping many times, yet I haven't got a chance to review it until today. Let's start with the atmosphere. They obviously spent serious money on furniture and decor. You can't tell that the place used to be a Denny's. Not too long ago they used real linen tablecloth and change it almost after every customer! Now they put paper on top of their cloth, but they still use cloth napkins. It's almost fine dining, good enough for a business lunch at least. The food is good. I don't see any adventurous food, but everything on the menu is executed better (with better-quality ingredients) than the average neighborhood Chinese restaurant. The difference is subtle, but to me it's noticeable. They want to provide better quality, and they have succeeded. I have not been disappointed with anything on their menu. I'm giving them 5 stars because their lunch menu is a tremendous value. You pay $6.75 + tax for a good quality meal with soup and egg roll, in a sit-down restaurant with real silverware and real napkins, served by a waiter. That's tough to beat. read more

I love the food here even though the lunch portion seems to be lessen lately for some reasons. The waitresses/waiters are nice and often try their best to serve you, I like that. I love Lemon Chicken but Ho Ping House make it too sweet/too strong to my taste so I always have to ask them to put the sauce aside instead of mixing with the chicken. Other than that, I love most of the dishes (Triple Delight is always delicious!) They used to have the cute little tooth-pick bird at the entrance, so sad they put it away :( read more
