I was really disappointed today. So many broken and chipped items. As we were looking around it seemed like every glass or porcelain item was chipped. Yes they were on "sale" but who wants a serving dish with a rooster if 1/2 the roosters tail is missing. Or a cute plate display with one of the plates 1/2 gone. So what if it was only $16, it was worthless. Then the bathrooms. Seriously. We were there by 10:00 this morning. Only 1 stall had toilet seat covers. One stall out of toilet paper and dirty! The floors hadn't been cleaned. Come on Hobby Lobby. You really are making BANK on your self distributed items. You should have a team come in before the store opens to get it ready for your day. I love your products but everything seemed to be broke, chipped, missing something. The staff there was not very professional either. They were more involved in catching up with each other then helping with their customers. I hope you read this and really take a look. Your paying customers deserve better. I told my daughter to look on line and order that way hopefully what she wanted could be delivered and not broken? Not good. read more

It is a glorified fabric store. Is that all one can say? Well, no. Hobby Lobby has all the charm of a costco without the customer service. While it does have large selections, and unique items I cannot secure elsewhere the customer service leaves much to be desired. For example when someone is shopping is that the best time to block aisles removing items to place in storage? I think not. While not much choice I do not utterly hate Hobby Lobby, but it lacks the personal touch they claim to strive for. read more

No matter when I come in here the line is sooooooooo long. Even if there are only a handful of people in line. I routinely wait 20+ minutes in line. There is no "running in" to this place. I will go to any other store to search for something before I come here. It's a shame because I like this store and I like what they have. But it isn't worth it to me. This is the first time I've been to Hobby Lobby. This is an excellent store. We found many items on sale that we were looking for. Also found items I hadn't been ale to find at other stores. We were traveling so didn't have time to enjoy looking at the whole store. We love that there are so many departments in one store. Will definitely be going to Hobby Lobby again. Great experience. I love going to this place. I always tend to find what I am looking for. The majority of the staff are friendly and helpful but sad to say one of the managers needs to having training in customer service. Her dealings with certain customers needs to be really re-evaluated. A customer does not work for her or is taking any handouts from her or taking advantage of her. She needs to realize every person that walks in through the front door is a paying customer and is providing her with a paycheck every month. I pray every day for people like her to open their eyes and realize that we are all created equal and God loves us all the same regardless of our looks. I would like to tell her that being nice and friendly doesn't hurt. You should try it! It will make you a happier person inside and out. This is a huge confusing store. I think it would be a great place for big time crafters but it was hard for me to find what I wanted, and when I did find it there was no price on it. I asked an employee in the area, he said don't worry about the price, have them page me from the register, and he will tell them how much it costs. Another thing that annoyed me was I was looking for a birthday card and out of two long sections of cards EVERY card had a bible verse on the left side when you opened it. I finally found a very small display rack that had some cards without the verses. It was a cheap ass card, shoud have been about $1,35 to $1.50. The price for the card was $3.50. By the time I found it, I had 25 to 30 minutes invested so I bought it. One more thing- the price structure here is mark everything up to some ridiculously high price, then place 30%, 40%, or 50% off the sky high prices. I doubt they are fooling anyone. Anyhow this store will work great for some of the "do gooders" and hard core religous types in Bakersfield. I am neither an Atheist nor Agnostic, but I will not be decorating my home with religous paraphanalia. There is so much of this stuff here. Not my cup of tea, I won't be back. read more

Love the store, hate the check out system. Every other store on the planet uses a bar code scan system for a reason. It's fast and efficient. The way hobby lobby does it is not. How is it that it takes two people half an hour to move through the line? Every time I go in I spend most of my time in line and with a 6 month old this just isn't worth the stress it causes. The deals are great, however I don't have all the time in the world to listen to the checker play 21 questions with his customers while he slowly types in each little code and coupon. I bought a 14x18 frame at the store Saturday. They're packaged with corner pieces of cardboard to protect the corners of the frame. Well when I get it home and unwrap it I notice the corner of the plexiglass is shattered. I returned it today and did an exchange. Lo and behold this one is broken also. One must definitely be warned beforehand that this craft store is extremely conservative. It can sometimes be a little uncomfortable for those who are not used to being surrounded by so many religious themed objects, but as a Christian-based company (revealed on the website), Hobby Lobby certainly expresses the faith in a very enthusiastic way. One can easily feel like an outsider if they do not fit a certain " aesthetic": non-religious, especially flamboyant etc.; however, there are no guidelines posted in the store dictating what exactly this "aesthetic" is. You will feel it the moment you enter this store. Something about this place seens to highlight individual differences and make people who already stand out, stand out even more. I have felt quite isolated during many of my visits here; I was made to as if I were unwanted not by the employees, but the customers. This store attracts many religious and conservative people. If you feel as if you are being judged when you go to this store, find the home decor section and look at all the uplifting messages printed in the decorative wall hangings. Sometimes a store and all of its employees can be great, while the customers, not so. This is a very neat store with an expansive stock of many different item categories, but it can become overwhelming at times. Be prepared to stay longer than originally planned, unless the exact item needed is easily located. It is wise to first become familiar with the store, only because it is so easy to 1. get lost in the wonder, and 2. become lost or separated from your party. :) Hobby Lobby is truly a great addition to Bakersfield and has a very nice location that originally had no craft stores (other than JW of course). A few items can get a little pricey, but keep an eye out for the sales. There is always a sale going on here! The employees here are the best part. Wife goes to every Hobby Lobby in every state we've traveled to and loves the store and all things in it. Several weeks ago she ordered 3 or 4 Bar Stools for our Kitchen counter. They haven't showed up and can't get anyone to call her back so every week she goes in to try and find out the status and no one seems to know how to track them down or do not know how to go about checking their status. Dont seem to want to put any effort into it. All they've told her is they must be out of them at the warehouse. Finally giving up and will buy elsewhere. Still like the store but very poor customer service on this "we tried but they didnt" purchase. read more

From the moment I walked in, I fell in love with the store! The staff are kind and helpful. At first, I was having trouble finding a certain item, but when I asked an employee to help me, he walked me all the way to where that item was. The cashier was also nice. She offered me great deals. My first experience there was amazing! (07/21/2014) On the other hand, my second trip there was not great at all. When I walked in, I was excited, but my excitement didn't last long because of the employees. The women who worked in the fabric section of the store were gossiping. I thought in my head, "this is a Christian owned store with Christian songs playing on the background and Christian people. Why are they gossiping?" For a second, I also thought they were talking about me, but then I simply ignored it. This made me feel uncomfortable and I wanted to leave right away, (but I needed to purchase a frame).To top it off, the cashier was not nice. She was rude and not helpful at all. They treat u like a used car salesman down your throat, while dipping and dodging between isles, peering OR pretend to carry on one-sided cell phone conversations. Listen for yourself, you will see what I'm taking about. For heavens sake I AM A MAN, and have a wonderful relationship with God, but honestly, where in God's name am I going to put anything? Very disappointed with the customer service from the sales associates and more than anything the managers at this location. Today I went in and was brushed off by an employee that was unwilling to help. When a helpful cashier tried to get me assistance from a manger so I could tell her about my experience the manager (Cathy) went on to act as if I just wanted a discount and basically held back laughter as i told her what had happened with the sales associate. When I let her know how she made me feel as if she was taking it as a joke because I couldn't help but notice her huge smile as I told her the story she responded with repeating that the item was not on sale and she could call over another manager then before I could even say anything she had already very rudely walked away not caring how she had just acted. The cashier which was the only helpful employee then apologized for his managers actions. In this whole situation I never asked for a discount or for the price to be lowered. Calling over a manager wasn't even my idea. The cashier just called her over in hopes that she could help the situation because I had let him know how rude the sales associate had been and how unhappy I was with my experience. So for the manager to just assume I wanted a discount instead of apologizing for her employees actions or asking which employee it was she just reassured me that Hobby Lobby is not a place that cares about their customers needs or opinions. read more

I love everything about Hobby Lobby. Their flower, fabric, baking, crafts, birthday, frame, home/wall decor, and especially seasonal departments, are amazing. There's so much to chose from. We've picked up so many bday decorations because they are super cute and reasonably priced. The employees have always been nice and helpful. This last time I went, I lost one of my earring studs. (I'm devastated :,( ). The staff was nice and made sure to get my # in case it was found (wishful thinking), nonetheless, it was super nice of them. Not really enthusiastic about the store. Everything I requested asked for was out of stock and to be told they get their new arrivals on Monday and today is Wednesda y. The 40% Off coupon was nice and it did work. But I honestly see myself going back to Michael's rabbit in this place it's huge and they don't even have a map of the store to hand out to the customers. This place definitely has a lot to choose from and I have found some pretty cool items here, unfortunately I had a bit of an issue recently with them not following through on a special order I had placed with them for my daughters party favors. I requested to receive a call back to let me know if they were or were not able to receive my requested item and I never received a call back. I actually had to call them twice. And the second time I spoke to someone I asked her to relay the message to the person who filled my special order form, nobody called me back. 1 week after the day they were supposed to call me, they ended up giving me a call back. Never again! The store is nice. Merchandise is laid out in an orderly fashion & the store is clean. It's another Michael's. I found what I was looking for without too much trouble & the quality appears to be good. HOWEVER, I waited in line for 40 min. with only two in front of me. The store doesn't believe in scanners, so every bead & trinket is first placed against a sheet on the counter to see if it's on sale. After that, each piece is slowly entered into the cash register by store item number, if the clerk can find it. When it was finally my turn, I asked the clerk if they were going to get scanners. No. Great. They don't believe in them. I asked if waiting that long was normal (trying to give them a new-store-breaking-in-period break). She said, "No. The wait is usually an hour & a half." I said, I wouldn't be back. I could drive to Michael's & back 5 times & still make it home to the northeast before I could get checked out of this fiasco of a store. My all time favorite place to go for house decor, decorations for the holidays, and any decor I need for an office space, bedroom, bathroom, outdoor,etc. Hobby Lobby has the widest variety of decor I've ever seen at a store!! I will not go anywhere else to shop for things like this. The staff is extremely helpful and has even helped me pick out items that would match and look good together. They're always willing to help take your stuff out to the car for you and make your trip as enjoyable and easy as possible. We went by today just to see what all they carried. I know I was pleased that they used the old Mervyn's building instead of building something new. The store was immaculate and full of anything one would need for doing crafts that is if one is into crafts which I am not. The place was full of people and parking spaces outside were few and far between. I guess it was because they were newly opened and there were lots of sales going on along with coupons for up to 40% off on a single item from their website. That all being said I must say that it bothered me that nearly everything they carried was made in China. I really would love to find more places that carried things made in this country. Being made in China used to mean that it was cheap but that just isn't the case anymore. But if one loves doing crafts then I would think this store would be just what you would need to accomplish them. read more

The WORST Customer Service in town!!! Let me begin with the fact that my sisters and I have spent hundreds in this store redecorating our homes this year. Everytime we would ask for assistance the sales floor workers were rude and reluctant to help. Recently my sister was literally accused of stealing by the cashier and assistant manager simply because she didn't have the receipt with her and even though a customer that entered the store behind her confirmed that she had brought the items in from her vehicle after she saw the embarrassment they were putting my sister through. The lady even left the store very upset after telling the assistant manager that the way my sister was accused of stealing and being treated was out of line, unfair and unprofessional. We also spoke to the Supervisor at the time whose name is Bree to complain about being accused of stealing and overall treatment of the staff and instead of an apology and her taking matters to the situation she completely ignored our complaint and went on about why they couldn't return or exchange the items in a dismissive and arrogant manner even after I had told her that I felt that she was completely disregarding our complaint. Her entire rude demeanor and discriminative behavior left us feeling humiliated, embarrassed and very angry to see that a home decor store is not exempt from the judgement and hate in the world these days. I refuse to let this slide as if it never happened. I will be sure to report this to the Better Business Bureau, email the Hobby Lobby board, spread the word all over social media and share my review and experience everywhere I can. Although I love hobby lobby and love that it is a Christian based store, I had a bad experience there yesterday. I purchased a frame along with some other items last week, since I wasn't sure if the frame size I kept my receipt. The frames were half off and when I looked at the cash register before paying, realized the frame was more than I thought it should be, but just chalked it up to me not clearing looking at the price. The frame was the wrong size so I went in to return it with the receipt I kept. The cashier told me the frame was not on the receipt, I looked and said yes, here it says frame and dated last week, no that was not the correct frame, the one on the receipt was originally 33.99 the one ring up was 39.99! Oh, well they over charged me then, because this is the receipt, after calling the manager over she said they would do a "no receipt" return. So basically, I paid more for the frame, got back less on my return and was issued a gift card because I didn't have my receipt! Again, I explained, this is my receipt! She overcharged me!!!' So moral of the story is, you have to do their job too, make sure they ring up the correct item, because you will be punished for their error! I will NEVER shop at this place again. 1) The aisles aren't marked so if I ask where certain items are located, an employee has to take me to it. 2) The aisles are too narrow and boxes of items yet to be shelved are on the floor, in the way, making it even more difficult to navigate. 3) There are NO SCANNERS so the item first has to be placed against a sheet on the counter to see if it's on sale. After that, each piece is SLOWWWLLLYYY entered, by hand, into the cash register by store item number, IF THE CLERK CAN FIND IT!!!!! 4) Sales items are not clearly marked. I listened to a customer try to explain to the register clerk that the matching items she wanted were on a shelf with similar items. The shelf was marked as "clearance" yet the register clerk argued that only selected items on that shelf were on sale. How could we THE CUSTOMER know that, if it isn't clearly indicated on that shelf?!?!? 6)That particular register clerk was EXTREMELY SLOWWWWW. When I tried to point that out to the manager she said, "Oh, no, it's not her, it's register 10." No it wasn't, I watched how SLOWWWLLLLYYYY that clerk moved with the two customers in front of me. 5 customers at another register, who were behind me in the next line over, got out before I even got up to the register.
