Also, I recently picked up an old knitting habit and wanted to replace some old yarn. It was nice to see an area dedicated to yarn, other crafts, and other hobbies. I can say I really got lost inside the store, discovering so much. I saw some frames to purchase to make a gallery wall. My 12 year old embroidery/sewing machine began acting up more than usual. It was time for…read moremaintenance service anyway, so I reached out to the other store I purchased this machine from. I could bring it in and then it would sit for 4-6 weeks before they could look at it. I asked If I could make a reservation to bring it in in 4-6 weeks and was told no. A quick google search brought me to Austin Sewing Machines. I called them about service, and guess what, they gave me a reservation to bring in the machine in 4 weeks. Well how about that!? The cleaning/maintenance price was very fair. They had the machine for about 3 weeks and called to let me know when it was ready. They told me step by step what they had done and what was replaced, etc. I held my breath for the final price and it was amazingly reasonable and fair. I was over the moon. Picked up the machine a day or two later. They went over the repairs again, and reminded me there is a 90 day warranty. My machine is happy and working just fine now. This is the new shop for me even though it means a 50 mile round trip rather than a 10 mile round trip to the other store in Austin. The store is clean and bright and the folks working there are lovely. Going to make the trek up north to check out their fabrics and notions.

As usual, my visit with my sister and niece the Saturday before Easter went well and lasted much longer than it should have because I always peruse every. single. aisle. Then, it happened: the cashier, who was clearly not having a good day, did nothing more than mumble my total when I checked out and then was downright nasty to my sister to the point that she asked her if she was ok as the girl scanned her purchases. The question seemed to exacerbate the bad mood, so we just walked away. She very obviously did NOT want to be there. Talk about a mood killer! I was so bothered by the interaction that I called the manager from the parking lot, who seemed pleasant on the surface but obviously just wanted me off the phone and seemed put out that he had to take a customer call. I told him what happened, explained that I'm sure she didn't really mean harm, but that he had a clearly upset employee in the most customer facing role in the store. I thought maybe if he knew, he'd want to do something else with her time while she was in such a bad state that day. I don't know what action he took, if any, but I did try to help. This was disappointing, but it won't stop me from going back into HL, which is one of my favorite places in the world. It definitely gave me pause and makes me wonder what she must have been going through that day to be in such a horrible mood. Also, I might check out the location in Georgetown, instead.

The gentleman who met us was extremely helpful. Initially we looked at some new fabric but we could not find a match. We were then encouraged to look at remnant sample book and we found a couple of samples that looked promising. The first sample could not be located after a 10 minute search, but the second was found and we pleasantly surprised when it given to us for no charge!

The employees were very friendly and talkative. We found a few treasures that were good price. I got some rainbow hematite and a cute bird magnet. The parking is out on the street and wasn't too bad.
