I was genuinely impressed by how massive this Hobby Lobby store is--easily bigger than Safeway, Party City, or even Walmart Neighborhood Market. From the moment I walked in, the staff stood out with their friendliness and eagerness to help. They were more than happy to guide me through the store and help me find whatever I was looking for, and they did so with genuine enthusiasm. The store itself is a treasure trove of interesting and unique items. Whether you're into home décor, crochet, art supplies, painting, photo framing, or even just looking for cool mugs or crafting accessories--you'll find it here. It really does live up to the name when it says anything related to your hobby is under one roof. What surprised me the most were the prices. I compared several items with what's available online on Amazon, and Hobby Lobby consistently came out cheaper--which was a pleasant surprise! I've never been to Hobby Lobby, but today I decided to go to buy materials to repair an item. I've always heard positive reviews that it is so nice that we finally now have two locations to shop. I beg to differ! This store is the most antiquated and inefficient store from the 1950's with staff that are slower than molasses. The items available were mainly cheap so I couldn't buy quality if I wanted. This is the Amazon mentality. Nobody knows quality so just sell bulk cheap stuff, and it is acceptable. I needed to replace some crystal rhinestones. They primarily only sell glass in bulk. Their ribbon selection was obismal! I just needed ivory organza ribbon. Nope, two areas, and no ivory organza ribbon. Now for the issues that are unforgivable in the 21st Century: 1) No self check-out. 2) There are no prices on lots of items. 3) No prices on the shelves either. 3) No random scanners in the store for customers to check a price. 4) They don't have a scanning system! They enter the price manually for the sticker on the item. I still can't believe I just wrote that. 5) To get a price, a clerk has to call a supervisor over to look up the item online. A clerk can't even look it up to save time. There is a wait and it holds up the line. 6) Plenty of space but nowhere for guests to sit. 7) No refrigerated beverages to buy. I stopped by today looking for a hard plastic serving tray with a Christmas design on it. It was really busy inside. Employees were stocking the aisles everywhere, which made it hard to maneuver through. Shouldn't stocking happen before the store opens? They had a ton of Christmas decorations everywhere. They still had some fall aisles, but I'd say the majority of the inventory was Christmas. The aisles that were already stocked were nice and neat. It's a bit overwhelming in there. There's so much to look at that you can easily spend an hour in there without realizing it. I finally asked for help for what I was looking for, but they only had fall serving trays. So I got that instead. I also got a cute gingerbread house-shaped doormat, and a gingerbread boy and girl yard decoration. They have a ton of ornaments. I found some frosted tiny gumdrop ornaments for my miniature Christmas tree. Everything I bought was 50% off, which was a great deal. Checking out took a long time. The employees at the checkout literally have to key in each item. This is a brand-new store. Why don't they have a scanning system? This makes for a very long wait just to buy your items. So happy there is a Hobby Lobby close by now that I can buy things for crafts or fun activities for young ones and myself. I was in town and wanted to go to Hobby Lobby to pick up some yarn, which was on sale. Went to the mall and couldn't find it. Had to ask the drink shop where it was. For those of you who park at the front of the mall, HL is located behind Sports Basement. Just walk along Sb until to get to the end of the store and turn left. HL is located upstairs in a former bye bye baby. Wow this store is huge! And packed with so much stuff. It was sort of overwhelming. I did pick up that yarn along with some beads Staff is friendly. It's a complete mess. Plenty of employees working but none, well three of them, couldn't answer my question....Where is the photo adhesive or any glue for photos? One told me go to frames, the other told me arts and crafts and the last one said with confidence while pointing, "go down that way and you'll see all the glue." So excited that Hobby Lobby has finally opened in San Jose! It is an enormous store, much larger than their Morgan Hill location, which feels bright & spacious. We walked up and down the aisles and they have everything you can possibly imagine to decorate and accessorize your home from candles, vases, throw pillows, door knobs, artwork, lamps & their seasonal section is also fabulous! Finally got to visit with the family! It's near Almaden Costco and has replaced bed bath and beyond. It's on the second floor and is accessible via escalator or elevator. It's a huge space that's bright, well stocked for a grand opening, and lots of friendly workers. They have so many aisles for home decor, arts and crafts and more! They've have a promotional discount to attract new customers. You could get lost in the store easily! read more

It's nice to have a Hobby Lobby in my city instead of going all the way to the Morgan Hill location. Store was well organized and clean. Also I found some great stuff such as Hello Kitty merchandise and jewelry. The only bad thing was that the staff on the sales floor weren't really greeting customers which doesn't really look right. I love Hobby Lobby! I am thrilled that they have opened a location in San Jose. They have such a huge selection of wall art, accessories, faux trees, flowers, and holiday items. I recently started doing a little crafting before the holidays. With so many Youtubers making crafts I got to try something for the holiday season. As a kid, it was always Michael's in Sunnyvale to get all crafting stuff. But Michael's are not as abundant as it once was. These crafters on YouTube mentiined Hobby Lobby, so I found it on yelp. I went to the one in San Jose, which is my understanding is the newest one. It's attached to the mall so there is parking, but you're contending with the other customers of the mall. upon entering you can ride up the escalator or go around the corner and go up the elevator. Then when you enter the store... I was rather impressed at how huge it was. It had aisles and aisles of all kinds of craft ideas. My mind was having a fun day. Christmas decorations are out, so I was checking out all the Christmas trees and the decorations. I came in there to find glass beads and crafting glue. But I enjoyed walking up and down the aisles and seeing what they have to offer. I did see lots of crafters and their families walking around so that tells me it's a popular good place to shop at. sign up online, you'll get announcements and it's very similar to Michael's where it's 40% off or sometimes even more depending on the items. As a reminder, they close on Sunday. Founders believe Sundays are rest day. Faith day and famiily day. I would suggest going there with a list and sticking to your list. I ended up spending more than I expected. I believe , as of this writing, one can't order online for shipping, curbside pickups or in-store pickups. I can't wait to go back. The staff members between the aisles are very helpful and friendly. Checking out the cashier was nice and we were in conversation because I noted the building is pretty big and he said it was a former Bed Bath and beyond. read more

My help with return with no receipt by Sherri. Very patient looking though my purchases to credit my credit card.. Very much appreciated and she was very nice. But I do have to say she asked for help before she started from someone that was supervising, and she rudely responded to Sherri you can do it, you're the cashier and then walked away. Sherri said nothing and turned around and helped me. Supervisors, lucky I wasn't the cashier because I would have said something back very rude. To me that's demeaning to the cashier. I like the selection of items they have typically but I was shocked at how the Christmas items had been picked over right after Thanksgiving. The stocking staff closes off aisles when stocking so I couldn't get what I wanted. I liked the sales but I think what ruins the experience is checking out. It is not the cashiers fault and I feel sorry for them. The owner(s) of this company refuse to embrace technology. My wife recently purchased a Hobby Lobby framed picture on-line, it turned out to be made of substandard frame materials: with the attachments breaking away from the frame, it useless as is. She went to the local store and asked for some assistance. She was told that she needed to contact their on line return assistance. Nobody offered to stop and evaluate the item nor provide even a quick fix to the problem. She was told just no and that was the extent of their assistance . My wife explained she was in "retail" herself and found this response bad. there was no store manager input; nothing. My wife told her that she could keep the framed picture she didn't want it and that would be the last time she bought anything from Hobby Lobby. read more

I came in here to check out the crafting section and it's bad. Lack of selection in yarn and yarn tools. The cross stitch section is just one isle. The whole place lacks warmth and just seem depressing. The stuff all look depressed and uninterested. It reminded of a Big Lots and Kmart. I would not recommend if you any sort of crafting. read more

Eck! Not much going on here. I can see why a lot of people give this place a foul taste. The products here are very nice and there is something for just about everyone. There's a discount every time I come here. String is the best. Location is okay because it's in the middle of the Almaden area. Lots of schools and churches in the area come here for decor or supplies. Now for the bad part. Yarn is expensive here. Costs more than other places. There is very minimal selection here for crocheting and knitting. You are better off going to other places. Once I entered there was a minimal amount of people which makes this place upsetting. Home decor seems to dominate this place rather than toys and arts and crafts. Kitchen stuff is too generic, even Wal mart beats this place by a mile. Staff who work here are very slow, had to wait in line for 5 minutes for just one cashier. Could wait longer but didn't happen because this place is dull. Probably won't come here but it sure beats any ER in the county. read more

I called this morning for an item and had a sku #. The guy on the phone twice gave me different time frames when to come and check and was referring me to other hobby lobby locations. I can see why this store has low reviews. Just plain lazy and shows no effort that they even want your money. First he told me to come in 2 hours as they just got delivery and I called right when store opened! Then I called again, he said yeah we don't have it. But if you want to come around 3pm it should be on the floor????? SO WHICH ONE IS IT? You have it or you don't even know! read more

If you are on the fence about visiting this new Hobby Lobby location, let me tell you - GO!! I've read the negative reviews and all I have to say is, upper management probably took it into consideration because the service was totally fine. After I had spent over an hour looking for fall decor, not only was there a HUGE selection, but it was on sale. And yes, even the Christmas decor was up AND on sale. In September. On sale!! This is value, people!! I will say I was a tad bit nervous going up to the cashier (because of previous reviews) but not only were they helpful, the staff opened up a new register even though it was just 4 people in line! I hope that this was not a one-off but I believe Hobby Lobby heard the critics and acted on it just in time for the holidays. So, thank you Hobby Lobby and God Bless! read more

I had a great experience at Hobby Lobby today. The store is filled both with Thanksgiving and Christmas decor. This store is huge and has a lot to see. All of their holiday items are 50% off. So what a good deal. I was looking for a specific garland and didn't find it hanging. So I asked for help from Carlos and was very quick to help me. Then another person helped me and his name was Beto. Then I was ready to pay and the cashier was so nice and helpful. I took my cart filled with Christmas items to my car, but I forgot I parked my car by Costco. The cart stopped in its tracks & locked me out. Stressed and worried of how can I get these purchases into my car. Then I saw Carlos, the man who helped me inside the store. I told him my dilemma and without hesitation he said go get your car and I will watch your stuff. I was grateful and ran off to get my car. I parked my car and I saw him finishing his lunch. I apologized for interrupting his lunchtime, but he helped me placed all of my purchases in my car. What a great guy. Nice people should always get accolades. Was excited to visit this hobby lobby since it's closer to me than Gilroy. Unfortunately I was disappointed. It seemed very cold, not a good vibe. Plus an employee smelled of weed. It took longer to get through the line than it did walking the store aisle by aisle. The process needs to be sped up. There is nothing but chaos trying to navigate through the line. I would rather drive to the east bay or Morgan Hill. Traffic on the 101 or 880 isn't as bad as these lines. read more

Customer service is horrible. Waited half an hour to get fabric cut and when it was my turn, the staff member said she couldn't cut it because it was 8PM and she would get in trouble. The manager came up to us and demanded rudely for us to go pay for our things. While waiting to check out, the manager again rudely shouted at the customers to go to the next line. One cashier was complaining the whole time. I understand that it was the end of the day but there is no need to be rude or to shout at people. Will never return. read more

Finally came in to visit Hobby Lobby in our area. Was so excited that we finally have one. I was having a very enjoyable time shopping with all the selection here. Yes, the shelves could have been stocked up more, but I still found the inventory to be satisfactory. Coming to the check-out counter was a whole different experience. The woman checking me out just ruined it all. Totally unnecessary. I definitely don't like to come to Yelp to complain, but this was so absurd that it needs to be told. And honestly addressed by management. She was so rude and demeaning I couldn't believe it. She didn't look or greeted me as I approached which right there she was giving off the vibe that was going to transpire. I still, with my friendly attitude said, "Hi there!" Nothing from her. I thought, "Am I missing something here? What's going on?" We are in public. Doesn't matter if I'm a customer and you represent the company, it's just common courtesy. I get if you're in a bad mood, but you're also getting paid. Be in a bad mood and rude at home. Not giving that to others all day long while getting paid. Anyways, she was so condescending when I asked her if there were any coupons I could apply. She was going out of her way to try and make me feel stupid. At that point, all I wanted to do was leave the store as fast as I could to preserve the good day I was having. And now, I write this to warn you all. Beware. If you come, prepare yourself. I don't think shopping at Hobby Lobby is worth it for me. I will never return here. I am certain management has to already be aware that their employees are treating customers this way. I see here from other reviews, I am not alone in this. And there must be something fundamentally wrong with the company here where they are not making their employees happy to be there. Products are good and store is clean. Little confusing on what's in each section because there's not a lot of labels on what areas are which. Workers are good got help with fabric cutting and more. But when checking out was a long process and the worker kept asking the manager for help and manager she wasn't really paying attention to the employee. read more

First time shopping at Hobby Lobby. Shopping experience was ok, tons of fairly cheap items, but the problem was the cashier. We got stuck with a cashier that was extremely slow. The discount system is incredibly inefficient considering the cashier had to manually check every item against the weekly ad to see if a discount applied to that item. I feel that in this day and age, at least scanners could be used so the system could automatically check and apply these discounts?? Ended up having to correct him on some missed discounts, because of the "only applies to this and this item/brand" restrictions that he could also not get straight. read more

As much as I like the merchandise Hobby Lobby carries, THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS! At 1:40 today, Friday 4/28, I wanted to buy a large frame. When I got to the checkout counter they had 1 cashier open (besides the return/exchange register). There were 7 people in front of me and 5 people behind me! That is just TOTALLY WRONG. The manager on duty avoided looking at the customers in line so I went up to here with my frame, handed to her and said, "how many people have to be in line before you open another register?" It's been weeks with the escalators broken and now the main doors that are automatic don't open, you have to push them. Staff is always so rude. Stood in line for a while as the cashier is ringing up a customer and then she says she's closed. Why didn't you tell me because 3 other groups got in line at the other register? Extremely unprofessional as the manager is standing right there and says nothing. All this while the fire alarm lights are flickering but they silenced the alarm. This new location needs to have more lines opened. I've waited in line for 35 minutes.
