Looking for arts and crafts. :)
    Ivan S.

Seems like in today's shopping we have so many amazing places to pick for Arts and crafts project's. I needed to get out of the house and had a day off on the weekend. SO I went to Michael's and browse..... I am busy by choice and not by default. So I took the day off on the weekend. YES, weekend. I came while during the pandemic and they are open. I am currently looking for a more sturdy book cover to protect a book I helped publish via Alarm Press/Kickstarter. I came across a customer service rep and It seemed as though you can make a cover with materials which is why I came here, but I think Ill need to think outside of the box for this one. As is required in creative projects IMHO. Large isles and massive stock of amazing things really! Enso# 55 +- Amazing coupons Large store Enough to lay a solid foundation Online stock. _ A warm sunset and a heart full of hope!

I go to this Michael's so often I call it Mike's. This one has great workers, is always well-staffed, and it's full of all kinds of craft.

It was so hard to go and get this custom piece of art of my dog that died . Maggie was the one who helped me . She was so patient and kind whiles we cried a few times . She took her time helping us choose matte and framing for us . It came out so beautiful. Thank you so much for your help Maggie . You provided customer service above and beyond what we were expecting and I thank you for that . Thank you for your sympathy and the suggestions provided .

I've been going to this Michaels for over 15 years. The store is well stocked and has a variety of products for every crafters dream. It is a toy store for those with a multitude of hobbies from baking, jewelry making, knitting, scrapbooking, ready made craft kits for the kids, model car kits, photo frames, tie dying and more. Oh year if you have a bridal or baby shower or wedding there are is a section for you to for making party favors! The staff is always so helpful and ask if you need any help and the cashiers are pleasant. Line can be a little long occasionally during peak hours but it moves fast.

This review is for Chris in the Aaron Brothers custom framing section of Michaels. I've been coming to this store location for at least 30 years often dragged with my mother when I was young, to pick up art supplies when I was a teenager and in my twenties, and now periodically to get items framed. Last night I spent 2.5 hours with my wife and Chris to solve the best route for framing three items that hang together for my media room. One oversized signed print by Brian Froud, another a shadow box containing a hand drawing and crystal shard from the dark crystal, and the final a shadow box of the doubloon from the Goonies. I'm an 80s child what can I say. Anyway, there is a lot of thought that goes into these three projects. The media room has existing art and furniture that the artwork must compliment. Chris did a fantastic job 1.) understanding the type of art and coming up with creative solutions each step of the way (it requires some creativity to hang a crystal shard), 2.) explained to us the options available at each point and was efficient working their mock up & custom frame machine, 3.) kept being patient and engaged throughout all 2.5 hours. Honestly, that's fairly rare these days for chain stores but Chris was amazing. Yes custom frames are fairly expensive there, but they often have sales that will help with the cost, and if you work with someone like Chris you'll think they deserve every penny.

No one here to help. I keep ringing the bell. So.....this place is going down the drain.

Once again, another incident I witnessed....I told the cashier Rose (who is always very nice) that a man ran out with a bag, Rose ran over to look outside. Then this rude lady named Veronica (who I found out was the manager) yelled at Rose I'm front of ke and other customers in line shouting "Take care of the customers first!" And literally THREW A BAG AGAINST THE WALL saying "here's the bag!" This is complete childish, disrespectful behavior. I told Rose that I was appalled and will be reporting this. Other customers were saying it was rude along with me. Everytime I come here, something always happens.

my custom frame job, absolutely beautiful!!!!

extra star for a beautiful job! friendly & helpful staff! so much better than the other places i've gone and been disappointed

    No art supplies

With Aaron Brothers gone no thanks to Michaels making that decision AND University Art gone I thought Michaels would have a perfect opportunity to step up their game. WRONG! I went to buy 2 paint brushes (because I'm an artist who has supply needs) and they don't have hardly any brushes stocked. Plenty of crappy (beginner) multipacks though. Michaels has plenty of craft kits for those who would like to try to be "artsy" but 2 aisles of actual canvas', pens, sketch pads and paint supplies. It's all crammed in 2 aisles. This place now carries Barbies though and plenty of them. Goodbye forever Michaels. Ps. Real artists hate your store.

I used to knit a lot, but lost interest a couple years ago, and recently decided to try and get back in to it. When I arrived at Fillory I was immediately greeted and asked if I needed help with anything. I asked for a simple pattern to help ease me back into knitting. The staff member (maybe the owner?) guided me to a table covered in free patterns they were giving away for LYS day and said I should pick one and then they would help me find the right yarn for the pattern. I picked what I hope is an easy shawl pattern and then another staff member led me to the appropriate yarn section. There were so many choices of beautiful yarn I had a hard time deciding. I finally settled on a skein of Malabrigo in variegated shades of blue. I didn't see the needles I needed for the project, but it turned out they had them behind the counter. It was so convenient to be able to buy everything I needed at once. To top it off, they offered to wind my skein right then and there. Usually yarn shops don't offer this service on special days like today when the shop is crowded with customers. Fillory has been around for many years through several owners. They have a large selection of yarn and helpful employees who work hard. There is also a dedicated space for social knitting if you want to drop by to knit with others. They offer a variety of classes, too.

After my trek, Fillory Yarn was like an oasis. I immediately felt welcomed by the coziness of the store (it's very welcoming and inclusive), as well as the very friendly and helpful employees. Multiple said hi and welcomed me in, asking if they could do anything for me or if I needed any assistance. I've only recently begun to get into knitting and I loved their social knitting table! More stores should have that. I live in SF and I suppose SJ stores have more space for that. There were multiple people sitting and knitting and chatting. I also appreciated their sale section! I didn't buy anything from that section, but considered it. I also got a 5% off discount off my first purchase for joining their loyalty program. Everyone was so very helpful and friendly, quite a few employees and they all asked if I needed help. I loved their examples of items that were made with yarns they sold. They have an extensive collection and variety across types of yarn, materials, yarns for different items, books, accessories, and items across different price points--there is something for everyone and anyone, which makes sense. Fiber arts are political and I've been very impressed at how stores and fiber arts communities are welcoming everyone of all backgrounds into the fold. I'm disappointed but not surprised that some Yelp reviews reflect people who don't appreciate that inclusivity.

It took us some time to learn how to use the tufting guns properly and it felt like they were understaffed. It would've been nice to have more guidance throughout the process, like if we had any questions we had to wait a very long time for a staff member to be available to help. The seating for tufting is also very close together and it can get a little cramped. But as I mentioned earlier, we were very happy with our finished rugs. After we finished tufting, it took them about an hour to finish them off and we were able to take them home the same day. We also did decoden, which was fun! I was impressed by the charm collection, but it was very hard to find letter charms since they were all mixed up and scarce. Overall, the crafts turned out great, just disappointed by the service. With tufting especially, having more staff available to help throughout the process if needed would make this experience much more enjoyable.

Employees were stocking the aisles everywhere, which made it hard to maneuver through. Shouldn't stocking happen before the store opens? They had a ton of Christmas decorations everywhere. They still had some fall aisles, but I'd say the majority of the inventory was Christmas. The aisles that were already stocked were nice and neat. It's a bit overwhelming in there. There's so much to look at that you can easily spend an hour in there without realizing it. I finally asked for help for what I was looking for, but they only had fall serving trays. So I got that instead. I also got a cute gingerbread house-shaped doormat, and a gingerbread boy and girl yard decoration. They have a ton of ornaments. I found some frosted tiny gumdrop ornaments for my miniature Christmas tree. Everything I bought was 50% off, which was a great deal. Checking out took a long time. The employees at the checkout literally have to key in each item. This is a brand-new store. Why don't they have a scanning system? This makes for a very long wait just to buy your items. I think they need to upgrade their system with the proper technology of our time. The young lady who helped me check out was very sweet and friendly.
