This is my very first post with Yelp - I felt it necessary to share our experience with Hobby Movers, so that no one else suffers. Do not use Hobby Movers.
My wife and I moved on 7/1/14. Robert and his crew were great. They met us ontime at our storage unit, took the necessary precautions in loading our belongings and securing them (e.g. wrapping, blankets, etc.), were courteous... everything you would expect and want from a mover who is in and out of your home(s).
Once we (Robert and his crew) had loaded up both the storage unit and the apartment, we then relocated to our new house and began the unloading process. It was a difficult move as the house was three stories, with some of the appliances (i.e. washer and drier) needing to go to the third floor. My wife and I knew that it was possible for accidents to happen, but there was a reason we had chosen Hobby Movers - they were insured, they were accredited by the BBB, and they were reasonably priced.
During the move, my wife, brother and I heard a loud bang above us on the third floor. I went up to check on the guys and found that they had dropped the washer. My main concern was to make sure they were ok - it was an incredibly lound noise and actually knocked a covering off of our second floor ceiling. They were ok, so the move continued. We were so happy with them, despite the nicks that come with a large move, that we tipped the three man crew 25 dollars each ON TOP of buying them lunch from Whataburger - something they said people do not usually do and were extremely grateful for.
As we settled into our home over the next day, we hooked up the washer and drier to begin washing clothes. Our digital washer however wouldnt complete a cycle and would then give an error code. This is a machine that my wife owned (single owner) and never had any previous issues with. We thought it logical that since there were no existing issues with the washer, prior to the move, that the extremely hard drop could have been the cause. I contacted Hobby Movers on 7/3 to have a technician come out and look at the machine - exactly why we went with an insured mover. Hobby Movers (Amy) was very nice and even confirmed that Robert and team acknowledged the drop. However, no one ever got back with me to coordinate an onsite technician visit. I called again on 7/7, and 7/8 to no avail. I began to feel as though we were getting the run around. On 7/9, I was able to speak with Amy - she communicated that Hobby Movers was fully responsible and even apologized for the inconvenience of being without a washer for over a week. She said she had been out the past couple of days sick... :| I was assured that management was attempting to contact a technician to repair the unit. This was the last interaction I had with Hobby Movers, as they never contacted me again.
My wife and I paid out of pocket 135 dollars to have our washer fixed. We should have done that from day one, as it was evident Hobby Movers had zero intention of every compensating us for the damage.
Do yourself a favor - DO NOT USE HOBBY MOVERS even though they market themselves as insured, BBB accredited, and customer centric. read more
