Overall a standard Irish bar with decent food. A couple of things to note- Service was excellent Crab bisque was lacking definition. It was basically a lot of artificial crabmeat and a tomato base. Everyone was super friendly and gave great customer service! We ordered the chicken tenders & fries with a side of BBQ and the boneless buffalo chicken bites with a side of blue cheese. The food was hot and fresh and hit the spot after a long flight! I loved that the to-go boxes were sustainable and not styrofoam. I would definitely come here again. The pizza dough here is truly awful. It's not like pizza dough at all... it has the texture and crumb of bread, and poor quality pillsbury type white bread at that. No chewy gluten like you'd expect from a pizza dough. The calzones are like pita that get crisped. Comes out with very little chewy dough. The marinara tastes like a jar of grocery store spaghetti sauce, not like pizza sauce. The "garlic knots" are dinner rolls that come in a pond of butter/ oil. Really gross. We ordered steak calzones and the steak tasted extremely questionable. We also ordered a soda that came flat. When we aired out concerns we got attitude and had to ask for the $50 bill to be compensated. The cook came out and argued with me which was really awkward and unprofessional. They gave us $5 off the bill. The time that we came here prior the waitress dropped one of my shrimp on the table and never said anything. When I asked for another one she said, "you don't want the one that fell on the table?" I can't believe she actually said that. We came back to give the place a second go and were severely disappointed. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Two of us stopped in for lunch on a Thursday. Staff were friendly and attentive. The nacho plate was huge with plenty of melted cheese and loads of fresh vegetables. We upgraded to salads instead of chips with our sandwiches, and the salads were very fresh. We ordered a burger and a pulled pork sandwich. Both were delicious. They give a discount for cash. We were on the hunt for a local restaurant with sidewalk seating since it was a nice night out. We found this bar/ restaurant downtown on the main drag through town that fit the bill. We stayed outside, so we can't report on how it was inside. But it was definitely noisier. When the door opened there was a lot of loud talk and music. So we were glad to be outside, where it was calmer. Our server was very nice and bubbly. She added an extra star in the rating. We told her she really reminded us our our daughter who is similar in appearance pleasant personality (see our pic). We tried the "Poutine" which are gravy fries (we used to call them disco fries back in Jersey) with melted cheese curds, delicious. We've been going in for years. The wait staff was always pleasant and very friendly. The atmosphere is pleasent. Everything is clean and sanatary. We usually went in for dinner or lunch. The food is always good. They have a really good business there. There's only one person who chased us away. The cook who doesn't know how to cook sweet potato fries without burning them and destroying the taste. We stopped going in after that same cook came out to tell me off for saying my fries were burnt and bitter. I've had Hobie's sweet potato fries every time I went in there. I used to enjoy them. I don't appreciate being talked down too and lied too about burnt food. He litterally tried to bully me into eating the burnt fries and shutting my mouth right in front of my husband. There have only been two times the sweet potato fries were burnt and bitter. I assume this person cooked them both times. There's a reason the fries were tastey every time except for those two times. The fries were burnt. The laughable part was when the cook tried to blame the dark brown color on the gravy. The fries are supposed to be orange like the sweet potato after it's cooked. Those fries came to the table with a dark brownish color that was not even close to the orange color of the other orders I had at Hobie's. The cooks arrogant attitude and attempt to lie his way out of taking responsibility was the end of our love affair with Hobie's restaurant. We haven't been there since. The rest of the staff are sweet and friendly. I'm surprised they tolerate that asshole. read more

This might be a great bar, but it's a terrible afternoon restaurant. We were lured to Hobie's by fair weather and their sidewalk seating and what appeared to be a delicious menu. We ordered the fried pickles as an appetizer. Not much to say about the pickles--kinda hard to go wrong with these...just out of the bag, into the deep fryer, onto the plate (basket). The entrée was a different story. My wife had the spaghetti with Marana sauce. It was completely uninspired, almost bland. I had a taste of it and was immediately brought back to the days of my youth. Specifically, to the days of eating hot lunch in my elementary school cafeteria. The spaghetti comes with two...small buns?...in a plate of oil. I was amused to see my wife struggling to bite into one of these buns--it was truly comical to the extent that I thought she was messing with me. That is, till I tried, unsuccessfully, to do the same to the remaining bun-thingy. I suspect that these buns were victims of a microwave oven. Or at least I HOPE they were. I wasn't terribly hungry, so I ordered the Poutine appetizer; I've never had Poutine quite like this. I suspect that a can of institutional "gravy, brown" was dumped on a basket of French fries and had some as-yet unidentified chese pieces (certainly not squeaky cheese curds) dropped on, then run through the good old microwave oven, turning the *curds" into little solidified puddles of whitish stuff. On a good note, the iced tea we fine and glass of sprite was delightful. The service was VERY good, with kind and attentive waitstaff. read more

My husband & I have enjoyed the food at the Plattsburgh, NY Hobies for years. We used to go in there for dinner twice a week and it didn't take too long for the staff to figure out our work schedule and dinner routine that after a while they didn't have to take our order anymore. They knew exactly what we wanted for dinner and they would bring it out to us. We fell in love with Hobies because of the fantastic service. Today we went in for lunch. I ordered my usual sweet potato fries. I couldn't eat them because they were burnt. We didn't make a big deal about it. I just informed the waitress that I couldn't eat the fries because they were over cooked. I was not rude about it or upset. I only refused to eat burnt food. No big deal. It happens. I've been going to Hobies for sweet potato fries for years. They were always perfectly cooked, tender and the right color. I make them at home and they never look like the slop I was served today, nor do they ever have the bitter taste I experienced today. The cook came over to our table in a real huff to straighten me out on those fries. He kept saying they weren't burnt. He didn't care what I had to say. Every time I opened my mouth he would cut me off and yell at me for not agreeing with him that the fries were properly cooked. tried to blame the color on the gravy which is total BS. The gravy had nothing to do with the fries being over cooked. Sweet potato fries are not dark brown when properly cooked and they supposed to be tender not crispy. I doubt this guy knows how to cook sweet potato fries. No one else cooks them like that. We were going to pay for the fries regardless, until the cook came out to bitch at me for calling his food burned. He rhymed off his cooking credentials and gave me a bunch of BS that I knew was not true. I let him ramble on because he refused to listen to reason. He was way out of line and flipping his lid. I didn't come there to fight with your paranoid cook. I did not appreciate being told off for refusing to eat burnt food. That cook had no right talking to us with an aggressive tone. I don't appreciate being yelled at for not liking the food that I am paying for. We won't be back. The photos are just to help you better understand what your cook thinks is perfectly cooked. I do not recommend here! Placed an online order here through the app slice and ordered for delivery. Once the food was delivered, I immediately noticed missing items. Not only does it cost $15 for a Philly Cheesesteak sub, but they don't even come with fries (even though they have given us fries when in the restaurant previously). Then the poutine we ordered with $4 added chicken, did not have the chicken. So, as we tried calling the restaurant several times, the call kept ending and not going through. At that rate we just wanted our food so decided to visit the restaurant. We were greeted by a very rude waitress. She had a snotty attitude and did not seem to want to help us. She got the manager and when he came over he denied that $15 Philly cheesesteak subs had ever come with fries (which was appalling because we all had remembered getting fries or chips in the past). At least the manager was decent enough to add the fries we were missing and the Romeo chicken. Not very pleased with the wait staff though, both waitresses gave either dirty looks or were snobby. Our last night in town was a gustatory success because our bartender at the Oval Craft Brewery recommended Hobie's to us. The beer selection was wide and catered to even our discerning tastebuds. My friend is a craft beer snob and I had NEVER tried it - and BOTH of us were satisfied because our waitress knew what to recommend (I had the Mango IPA :-) The food was excellent (I had the chicken schawarama and my friend had the anchovy special pizza (ew, right?) Our waitress Kianna knew exactly what to recommend and was everything one could want in a waitress - fast, funny, friendly and smart. She really made our outdoor eating experience a memorable one and we can't wait to go back and be seated in her section again. read more
