It's Mother's Day and ain't ask my wife what she wants?? It's Covid 19 quarantine but I'll drive anywhere she wants to pick up her "Dream" meal. She says I WANT TACOS!! No Joke!! It's why I love her she's one of a kind. I asked and googled and researched and we came up with HoBrah. The entire meal was awesome I tried 4 different Tacos and all were 10 out of 10. Ok so I've been hearing a lot about this place ever since coming to Staten Island. Taco Tuesdays - buy one, get one! A great deal, no doubt. So I checked it out with a friend this past Tuesday. Here's what we ordered: Classic Cali fried fish taco - good, not great. I've had much better fish tacos before. Maybe a 2.5/5 if I'm being generous. It's not bad by any means, I just felt it lacked any real flavor. Americano - pretty decent. Had more flavor than the fish taco and more substance as well. Maybe a 3.5/5. Desoto HWY - my friend had this one. She said she would give it a 2/5 as it lacked in flavor. Ceviche - undoubtedly fresh ingredients but lacked in any real flavor. Also, not many plantain chips come with it. I would pass on this next time. 2/5. I know our ratings seem harsh but keep in mind I am from Texas and my friend is from California - we live and breathe tacos! However, our friend from NJ seems to think these are some of the best tacos she's ever had - so there's that as well. Seeing as how we now live in Staten Island, we will be back. We've been getting delivery from Ho'Brah throughout the pandemic, and it's been consistently great. Since there's a couple of us ordering, we've had/tried almost everything on the menu and don't have any complaints. I usually get a quesadilla or tacos, my family likes the naked burritos, we get nachos or empanadas as appetizers, and we've tried a couple of the drinks and have never been disappointed. This restaurant is such a breathe of fresh air to the 100's of Italian and chain restaurants on the Island. The cuisine is legit Hawaiian/ Cali street food -- the corn is a must have, as good as ones I've had from street carts in San Diego/Mexico. The tacos are a la Carte - so it's nice to try a few. I went there last Saturday with a friend. It seems very popular. The trains were delayed so I got there kind of late but my friend when she first came there, there was a line. The food was quite good, both my friend and I got chips and guacamole with a burrito bowl. I got the shrimp one and I would say, considering a shrimp burrito is $4 extra, I was very disappointed to see 4 shrimps in the burrito. I also got a mojito by accident (I meant to say margarita). It was a standard. Portion size is the reason why I'm giving this place 4 stars. One thing that kind of bothered me was that the seating is pretty close. A woman in the table next to me had gotten a lot of food and drinks and she accidentally knocked her water on me and my friend's legs. It's not spectacular but it definitely good! read more

Met up here with a friend yesterday night at about 6pm and this place was already crowded. Filled with people standing around the bar and tables all full. We waited about 5 minutes and got seated thankfully a table was getting ready to leave. Our waiter was busy but understandable. We got our order in and got the food quite quick. The tacos were so so. Definitely had better ones. We ordered the 2 types of fish tacos, the chicken and the pork tacos. Not sure why they come with cole slaws in it but I replaced it with guca instead. It made it taste more like a tacos and was delicious, but overly sauced with mayo. Should have the mayo on the side. The corn was delicious and a tad spicy but very favorable. We also has the burrito which was amazing and very tasty. Note on the side: though it was busy, we had our plates nearly taken twice thinking we were done when we werent. I had a good time at Hobrah.. the drinks were good but priced a little on the high side for a casual SI restaurant. I ordered 2 margaritas. One on ice the other frozen. Both were $11 each. The drinks came in a regular size glass.. I could have gone to Burrito bar down the block and got a margarita there for the same price but twice the size and a lot stronger. I went to the restaurant around 7 so It would have been nice if Hobrah had a happy hour special going on. Now the food.. I ordered Mexican street corn and a burrito with shrimp. The corn was very bland.. it looked good.. but the flavor was so light you couldn't tell that there was anything on it. The burrito on the other hand was excellent. I really enjoyed the burrito. It was large and stuffed full of jasmine rice, beans, shrimp, guacamole and chipotle aoli. I ate the whole thing lol. The service was good also. The waitress and hostess were attentive and friendly. Hobrah provides a nice atmosphere, good food and decent drinks. The food was reasonably priced.. the alcohol could be a little more reasonable being that this is SI but I guess the restaurant has to make their money... Overall, Hobrah is a yes! I'm giving this a 5 star rating due to the great service and the lovely decor ! Being from brooklyn and a regular at the bay ridge location, I was very impressed with the staten island location! It was very spacious and super cute from the outside as well as inside. The food was great and fresh and great size portions. The manager helped recommending dishes and appetizers. Also they have a brunch on Sundays 11 am , your dish comes with a free drink & live music. Deffiently will be back to try the Sunday brunch read more

Talk about a place going downhill! Prior to tonight, I never had a bad meal here, nor a bad drink. After tonight, I doubt I'll go back. Started off with a frozen mango margarita. Calling it "disgusting" would be being nice. The mango puree, or even possibly the tequila was terrible. They brought a replacement- a plain frozen margarita. It was equally bad. Didn't bother to say anything, and my wife, who agreed, drank it. To start, I got street corn. It had no flavor at all. Then, to my steak chimichurri. It was beyond fatty, sorely undercooked, and flavorless. The most flavorful part of the meal was the beans, and even they were watery. At this point, I didn't want to say anything else, because my server was as nice as could be, and I didn't want to bother her. Her service was the best part of the evening, and my wife and I really liked her. To boot, they took their chorizo mac and cheese off the menu, and all things chorizo, which is an automatic turn off for me. I understand going with a smaller menu because of COVID. But this is really bad. Especially when most places are returning to their full menus This place went from being a staple for brunch and dinner, to a place I'll never set foot in again. I loved Ho'Brah's tacos in Bay Ridge: crispy fried cod, sliced purple cabbage, the best chipotle aioli...I would walk 15 blocks for those tacos to go lol. Went here yesterday....Not too sure if the restaurant was going for a Spanish or Hawaiian theme BUT it is well decorated. Clean looking. Tortilla chips & salsa are complimentary. The reason there is 3 star rating is because the food was bland. With whatever theme they were going with, I expected a bit more seasoning and spice on the food. The food was bland to me but then again my culture has groomed me to expect all food to have more than salt & pepper as seasoning & for spicey to really mean spicey. The provide an iPad as the drink menu and I had a coconut margarita which didn't tickle my fancy too much because it taste like sugar water. Food is okay, but there is more than food to a restaurant..... As the parent of a child with a food allergy, is was appalled to hear what happened to a family friend...... A mom out with her kids informs the staff of her son's nut allergy and is assured by the staff that what they ordered is fine. The boy takes one bite of a beef taco and immediately feels sick to his stomach, tired, throat feeling funny......tha The mom calls 911 and administers Epi-Pen......mind you, mom alone with 5 kids....no one in the dining room even lifted a finger to help her. Awful. Owner/ Manager claim that mole only menu item with peanuts, EMT thought perhaps stomach bug....... ER doctor confirmed that the boy's throat was closing due to reaction, and mom made the right call...... How can a dining room full of people ignore this poor family.....?? Def can not be compared to the Brooklyn location! Brooklyn location will always be better. I was so excited that they opened up a hobrahs in Staten Island. Came here yesterday with my bf and I hyped this place up saying their tacos were to die for. Little did I know it's nothing like the tacos I had in the Brooklyn location. First off.. The tacos were so small.....and pretty expensive for the price they charged. It's like a 3 bite taco for 5-6$. In the Brooklyn location the taco size was probably 2-3 times larger and cost the same price. We ordered an order of the corn, which was not good at all. It had no flavor or spice to it. The ones we've made at home even tasted better. I didn't even finish my corn cause it was just not good. We ordered the nachos, it was too stale for our taste.. Only good thing about it was the jalapeños. Not going to lie though.. The nachos in Brooklyn location were also stale! We ordered the spicy shrimp taco and the borocoa taco. Like I said very small taco.. Not worth the price.. We also ordered rice and beans.. Also wasn't good. My bf loved rice and beans and he didn't even finish it. The only decent thing were the drinks we ordered, I had a strawberry frozen margarita and my bf had the mango bulldog. Now the service! Horrible service! We were seated in the back. The waitress was attentive in the beginning, when she took our drink and food order. But it just went down hill from there. After we finished our food and they cleared our table we expected them to give us our check you know? Like normal restaurants after they clear the table. We waited about 20 mins and I'm trying to get a waitress or waiters attention but no one sees us. They're just crowded all together in the bar area chatting with one another. My bf and I weren't in a hurry at this time since we were still sipping on our almost empty drinks. We started to get antsy when we realized our parking meter was almost running out. I finally got someone's attention after waving my hand around in the air. They gave us the check. We were paying by card. So I'm waving the check and my card in the air for someone to come get it. I want to like this place. Badly. It has a great vibe, awesome decor, and cool atmosphere but my taste buds just won't let this faux Mexican-Bahafornian-like restaurant get by on just visual appeal and decent drinks. No brah - you drop the taco in the kitchen department. I've been to Ho 'Brah Staten Island 4x and, unfortunately, I've been disappointed in the food exactly 4x. I just can't do it again. After all, the definition of insanity is to repeat the same action while expecting a different result; and I don't want to be branded as insane! Especially not for a place that can't make a decent friggin' taco, yo. Seriously, though, the menu is fantastic, creative, and visually tasteful but when you actually get the selection of tacos you mouth-wateringly ordered, you'll be disappointed. It's frustratingly bland. Whether you order the cod, beef, steak, or chicken, there's absolutely no flavor and you won't understand why and every time I've gone, I left bewildered. The only flavors you'll taste are the slaw, which is everywhere, and the sauces, which is everywhere else. I've had them put the toppings on the side or cook the tortilla longer but to no avail. It always tastes like buffet salad on a rubbery slice of tortilla. The drinks are decent, the quesadilla is fine (but then again, my 9yr old can make a decent quesadilla), and the staff is cool and friendly. So brah, take a trip down to Tijuana, find yourself a taco cart and bring back some ideas on how to turn your perfectly mediocre tacos into something worth throwing on a NYC Thrillist list so Staten Islanders can be proud of a trendy taco joint in the middle of suburban NYC. read more

This is a new taco joint that recently opened on Staten Island and apparently there is another one in Brooklyn. My first impression walking in was the the place was nicely put together. Great interior. Very inviting. Made me want to drink lol. It was really busy inside but quickly quieted down as we arrived just as peak dinner time was ending. We started with margaritas and beer. The margaritas were great. The beer selection is respectable. For appetizers we ordered the street corn, pork empanadas and chips and salsa. The street corn was really great. It's grilled and topped with cheese and a variety of spices. It's really good. The empanadas were ok. Not amazing but good. The chips were slightly stale and there was a twisty tie in the basket. Since they're calling themselves a taco joint we decided to get tacos. They only give you one taco per order so we ordered a few different ones as to try a variety. We got the Cali special, the bohemian and the pork taco. Which were all just meh. Nothing special. The presentation was nice. But they looked better than they tasted. Our waiter was very attentive. You can tell he had a lot of experience as a waiter because he knew just how to push the product. Overall I feel Ho Brah was ok. It felt like it could be a chain restaurant. We ended up spending about $100 on the meal for two. But left feeling slightly disappointed as people we know think it's a great place. Pay them a visit and judge for yourself. read more

I'm not sure if the kitchen uses salt at all but I ordered steak chimichurri and it came on a skillet, the skillet wasn't even hot and the rice and beans were watery and tasted more like dishwashing detergent than seasoning. As a vegan (also coming with a vegetarian friend), there is little to really one option. The Sausalito. For lack of better words, it sucked. It really didn't have any flavor and was kind of painful to eat (so glad I only ordered one). Turned me off completely. I'm sure that if you are not vegetarian or vegan their other tacos are probably not as bad. But all in all, do NOT come here if you are vegetarian/vegan. Despite the monstrosity in a tortilla, I was happy with the surplus of chips and guac provided and their lemonade was perfect, not too sweet like you'd usually get. I had the shredded chicken and then the pork with pineapple. The shredded chicken was pretty good. The frozen margaritas were pretty good and strong.
