Hochaya was an okay experience overall. The staff were nice and the service was friendly, but the drinks took a bit long to come out even though the shop wasn't very busy. It's also a little disappointing that they don't have DoorDash available. The milk tea itself was decent, but nothing too special or memorable. Sometimes this place is a hit or miss. Reason being is that sometimes the tea could be watered down if they don't give it time to cool off. The service here is ok mainly because you hardly interact with the servers because you have to order on the kiosk. Made a quick trip to pick up boba after spending the day in Santa Barbara. Hochaya is close to the freeway and pretty close to a few shops and restaurants here in Goleta. There's plenty of seats outside, and honestly if I wasn't in a rush home, I would've sat outside and enjoy the weather. The store is pretty and big. When you walk in, you're immediately greeted by their staff who are very kind and welcoming. You are able to order via their two kiosks (this is card/ tap only) and can order at their register (cash only). OKAY THE DRINKS: Their drinks are pretty good!! The two drinks I bought were both tasty and refreshing- I think I liked the Lychee tea a little more than the Wintermelon Lemon to be honest. We ordered online and got to pick up our drinks really fast. We tried the Thai Milk Tea, Kyoto Uji Matcha Latte, Hochaya Fruit Tea, Passion Fruit Green Tea, and Butterfly Pea Lemonade. We thought it was not enough matcha for the amount of milk the drink had. We could've added more sugar to the rest of the drinks since we did 30%. When you walk into this cute tea house there is a large counter with brightly lit menu board above. There are 2 kiosks to order at (English, Spanish and Chinese) and then they call your number and you get your drink at the counter. It is very clean and you don't have to talk to anyone! (Except hopefully to say thank you!) We ordered the Sea Salt Cheese Foam Green Tea and the Butterfly Pea lemonade (caffeine free). They were very different but very good! I'm writing this as I'm sitting in the parking lot. The customer service is absolutely terrible. There were 3 girls and they were all rude. Especially the girl who made my drink. I was so excited to see that the Goleta area has a legit boba store. At first I didn't know what kind of store this was other than it was newly opened, but after realizing what they had I was surprised and was eager to try their drinks. Whenever I'm in town for work I stop by multiple times for my boba fix. I'm a huge fan of their Mango Pomelo Sago drink. All the components work together very well. I've also gotten the yakult red guava tea and I'll add boba or jelly in it. Sometimes I can't decide and I'll get both drinks. They also have an online ordering portal which made it convenient and I was able to pick up my drink shortly after I placed my order. There's tons of available parking here but it can be kind of crowded depending on the time of day with the smart & final, other restaurants, and a dental office here in this plaza but it hasn't been too bad. read more

Finally found a decent boba shop in Santa Barbara! I was so happy to try this place. I decided on the oolong sesame foam with boba 75% sweet. The sesame foam and tea combo is so good but the boba was a bit disappointing. The boba was old and a bit hard :(. I should've opted for another topping. We came right when they opened at 12pm so not sure why the boba tastes old. The drinks are on the pricier side (both cost near $14) but it was pretty tasty so I didn't mind. Sigh. I really wanted to love Hochaya, I really did. I would consider myself a boba connoisseur and I have to say that Hochaya missed the mark. I ordered the fresh Taro (dairy-free) milk tea. Although I was warned beforehand, they use a Taro paste which gave the Taro a fairly grainy texture. The boba was small & lacked texture. Additionally, they said they had no milk alternatives and use a dairy free creamer instead. Another con is that they only serve brown sugar drinks after 4pm. I was looking forward to trying their speciality brown sugar drinks but unfortunately came too early to experience it. I've had their fruit drinks in the past, but their 50% sweetness taste like 100%. I would avoid Hochaya and would even go as far to say that there are better boba shops in region, even with limited options. read more

Pretty good drinks here. Ok customer service. 2 visits so far, but the second time I chose to order online for pick up on their site. I've tried the following: -oolong tea with milk and boba - boba didn't taste like brown sugar that day but rather like grass jelly. It was odd but still tasty -roasted sesame cream milk tea - good to try but the sesame cream might be a bit too much with a milk tea since it may make the drink toooo milky - any cream drink is best balanced with a plain tea base imo -Aiyu lemon tea - refreshing, but I don't think they added aiyu jelly to it, but rather the oolong tea jelly. I added aloe to it and it was a yummy tart drink. 70% was perfect sweetness. Yakult guava mountain tea - added aloe to this. 70% is a bit too sweet for this drink. It's tasty but I think I'll skip this next time - a yakult lemon might taste better.. but they have passion fruit, peach, and pineapple to pair if you'd like. I'd say the best boba shop in SB area right now based on the quality alone. read more

Probably the best boba option in Goleta/Santa Barbara! I got an oolong milk tea with crystal boba with 0% sugar since I thought the crystal boba would be sweet from the syrup. It wasn't too sweet, but rather the texture was a little strange. In my experience, crystal boba still has a certain chewiness to it akin to regular boba. The one at Hochaya cuts through like a jelly instead - in itself not a problem, but I was just really looking forward to crystal boba with a bounce! Hochaya has great tasting boba with many unique/typical flavors for a tea spot... tonight was fairly busy with college students, but the ordering line progressed quickly. I order mango pomelo sago... perfect citrus and tart/sour flavor for the summer. It had tiny pieces of pomelo which added to that tart/sour/sweet zing in your mouth that balances with the base mango flavor. So good. Plum green tea was good too! Here's the best order... I haven't found any cheese cream tea drinks in Santa Barbara or goleta... but this one is pretty good overall. Cheese foam Oolong tea with boba. Delish. Unfortunately, they ran out of boba and I had to wait an additional 10 min for a fresh batch. Well worth the wait... small, chewy, and delicious (not over cooked fraying at the edges and hard in the center type boba) There are plenty of toppings to choose from- so go wild or stay conservative.. this tea spot is my new fave spot. This is such a rare find and normally not a boba drink but I had to get it. It was so good and brought me back to when I was young. The mango tasted fresh and there were pomelo pieces in the drink. I am from Orange County where there is an ethnic niche for Asian culture, and with that food! So I know my boba!! Don't get me wrong, this place IS the best Boba that you'll be able to find in Goleta (but it's also not too tough to beat its white competitors), however, everything is just only alright. The tea is always too watery, boba not chewy enough (too soft-- almost a jelly texture), the cheese foam is not that creamy, the matcha drinks are chalky and lacking in flavor, and the service is average.
