Came in for a quick coffee stop and am glad we did. The vanilla latte was creamy and imho didn't need any sugar or sweetener. Didn't try the food though. It was nice to see pretty big cookies for less than $4 each and they had some desserts like rice krispy squares and butter tarts The service was quick and there were two servers so there was no waiting time at all. Though it was not too friendly and welcoming like. A nice selection of food items and country store vibe with many unfamiliar brands were sold here. Also was a selection of gift items too. Big store that serves and makes food! Great addition to the community of Hockley. Food made to order and feels homemade. All items on store for sale look unique. Such a great store for this community! The store stands out. The area is very much residential and it looks like nothing is happening until you get to this store. I've lived in the Dufferin area now for most of my life and recently moved a stones throw from the Hockley Valley General Store. I frequent the spot about once weekly. Ive had all their soups and sandwiches which are amazing, the soups are very often vegan and dairy free. The Mushroom is probably my favorite. They have fresh roasted coffee, sweets and savory finger foods. The staff have that the kind of confidence that can only come with serving fresh, locally sourced, delicious food. They have the kind of swagger of a New York diner staff. The building had a rustic elegance that adds to the simplicity of your meal. It's a slice of Canadiana really. They have an LCBO in house and sell a variety of Knick Knacks and literature that begs to be poured over. It's one of my favorite spots in my community and it'll live in my memory forever. read more

I love coming by this place. Every now and then me and the mrs. like to take a short, scenic drive, and this place makes a good destination. It's nicely built and decorated, sort've giving a mini ski-lodge feel to it. When you enter, there's a casual seating area and a wood-burning fireplace. It's not really a restaurant per-say, but you can order various sandwiches, hot drinks and baked items inside the store. One one hand, it's very much a traditional general store since it sells about everything - including a mini liquor store. On the other hand it's not traditional- and as another reviewer pointed out, most of what they sell are artisanal, higher quality (and higher cost products). Maybe sort of what you'd expect to find at a higher end grocery store, but even that much more unique, or even 'shi shi' depending on how you look at it. I like the look of the place, and for me, it makes for a nice quick stop to pick up some great hot chocolate and a baked treat on a nice afternoon drive. Welcoming and friendly staff too. read more

Ah the hockley general store is pretty far out there from home. However once upon a time I use to live not to far away from this nifty little joint. My entire experience of this place revolves around breakfast... well brunch. Back in the high school days we would play hookey and end up at this place for some early morning shenanigans since there isn't much else to do in good ole orangeville. After a five year hiatus returning to hockley was a bitter sweet reunion. The sweet part is the fact that there is a winding road leading to what seems to be the middle of no where except that its leading to the hockley general store. So the drive up to it is beautiful. If you are on a motorcycle its even more fun :) The slightly bitter part is that the food here is pretty meh. Small menu containing the typical breakfast item sausage, bacon, pancakes, waffles etc. To be fair there aren't many other choices if you are in the area and it is a great spot for bikers to hang out. read more

Very very nice ambience especially if you can get seated close to the fireplace. It's generally a tad on the cold side in the store section. Average service, never have we had anything to complain about on the end. Massively and we mean MASSIVELY WAY WAY OVER PRICED. I have never in my life paid the kind of money they are asking for for a couple of eggs. We used to bite the bullet and eat there as a treat once a month or so until I ordered a 2 egg breakfast but hold the meat plwase, oh and could I get a sliced tomatoes? When it came I literally received two things slices of tomato and paid three dollars for them..... There are much more reasonably priced places in town to go...... Where they won't charge you for the tomato..... Especially if you hold the meat! read more

I live and work in the area so sometimes drop in when seeing clients. Coffee is good if it's hot. Several choices - dark,medium, decaf, flavoured. They keep it in thermal carafes which is good but I pour out a little into a cup to check if it's still hot before filling cup. Raisin bran muffin was good but made with a lot of oil so not low-fat by any means. They seem to have a decent short menu of sandwiches and the such except for vegetarian options. Grill cheese was the only veggie option if you don't eat eggs or meat and fish. Unusual for a place like this in Ontario. Small LCBO and Beer Store on site. Has some fresh produce, frozen foods and fancy foods in jars,cans,etc. Wood chairs and tables inside and out. Free WiFi which seems to work well. I have been driving a electric bike since the spring. The first time I dropped by here with the bike I asked if I could plug it in while I grabbed a coffee and a snack. The girl said ok like every other coffee shop or restaurant I have done this at. My battery takes five hours to fully recharge and uses up at most 15 cents of electricity. When I make stops like this I rarely stay and recharge for more than an hour. Today when I was there some guy who may or may not be the owner, I didn't ask, said I couldn't plug in my bike ( they have a lot of outdoor plugs for some reason). I was about to spend a few bucks on a tea and another snack. I left instead. Not impressed. Probably won't be back. There are other places around. The coffee isn't as good but they don't mind me recharging my bike. read more

This stunning general store/restaurant/LCBO/Bakery/cafe is just supurb. Run by Jacques Vendsvoort and Linda and Ian Wookey, you simply could not find a better country destination for the best in most everything you could want. Jacques's home made daily soups and baking are fabulous - especially the potato-cheddar! And the reuben sandwiches and sheppard's pie should not be missed either. Great place to go and have brunch or breakfast, there's also an LCBO as well as unique gift items available for purchase. (Though the new lady manager is quite arrogant) the rest of the staff are fantastic and it has a great solarium type room where you can even sit with your dog and have a coffee. It's a great destination for a scenic country drive. read more
