I contacted HOCOA based on the feedback on Yelp. I needed some plumbing help. In the past, I've done most of my own plumbing work whenever I needed to run new lines or repair leaks, etc. Not just because I'm cheap (I am), but because I've got the tools and the know-how. But as I've gotten older, my tolerance for working on my back in dark areas where my weakening eyesight gets in the way has diminished considerably. All I needed was a garbage disposal installation. My thought as I called was, "This ain't gonna be very high on a plumber's daily worklist. I'll be lucky to have anyone even return my call." I got a call back within the hour and they got the information. The plumber called me shortly and we set up an appointment for the next day. The work was fast (why shouldn't it be?) and excellent, and the price was right (less than half what the big guys would charge). I am very happy with the outcome, and with the whole experience. We were given a free year membership to HOCOA as part of purchasing another service. We bought a house and needed to do many major and minor projects. Carpets, balcony, landscaping, room additions, solar etc. I asked HOCOA for connections for many of these. They were quick to respond and we had productive and informative discussions. We used this service when we remodeled our home 2 years ago. Aside from the initial referral, which took a long time, we heard very little from them and have had very little involvement with them. This is contrary to what they advertise. We recently found out that the contractor they referred used subs that didn't follow code. We reached out to HOCOA and they have ignored our emails and text messages for over 2 weeks. I'd recommend advocating for yourself instead of a company like this. read more

Still waiting for him to complete repair. This was simply updating new shower fixtures. If they refer do your own homework. Supposedly this is now going to cost 475 to repair. Out of MY pocket. They expect you to sign up for a $69/yr annual membership to use their service after their complimentary 1-yr membership - I guess that would be OK if they'd call you back to schedule someone to come out and bid for the job you called about in the first place! They're probably OK for small jobs but anything beyond screwing in a light bulb I'd look elsewhere! read more

This was truly an unfortunate situation with Hipps Drywall as he did not return to the job site to complete the job, even on the last day he said he would with his crew of guys. He kept leaving my job to take on other jobs and that is my main complaint. He was supposed to start the project and finish it before taking on another one. One of my TV anchors disappeared in the process as well (the one he removed from the master bedroom wall). One more ding against him. After calling several plumbers and drain services early this week, (and having one simply fail to show up!), I finally broke down and signed up for HOCOA a few days ago. WOW! What a difference! I had a slow drain, and a faucet that needed to be installed. The drain guys called immediately, showed up early, were fast, friendly, efficient and fair. The plumber HOCOA sent to me was on time, clean, and all of the above to boot. All I had to do was call Sam and tell him what I needed. Done. What people don't usually measure is their own time, so if you have to call three or four services to get something done, you spend hours of your own time, and you still risk getting the one that flubs up the job. HOCOA takes all of that out of your hands, and puts vetted people on your doorstep with just one call. I actually hold two California contractor's licenses, and certainly I know how to get these things done. But, what I also know is the importance of my own time and stress level. I have been a member of HOCOA for about a year now and I first used them a few months ago for some handyman work. They were able to put me in touch with Al who came out quickly and was able to completely the job promptly. I called them again for trees that I wanted cut down, (because of the recent fires) they were able to get two people to call me back same day and met with me. The first was for roofing service and his roofer provided a lower bid and did the job on time and with no issues. The second, and most recent time really set his service apart. I called HOCOA late on Friday afternoon on an electrical issue. Sam had one of his electricians call me which happened yet that evening. He was able to spend about 20 minutes walking me through several steps over the phone and was able to take care of the issue.
