Hodgie's is my favorite ice cream ever! It is creamy, delicious, and consistently the best flavor every time. I have been going since 2010, and it just keeps getting better. If you don't want ice cream, you can grab a burger, or a lobster roll. Everything is delicious! The service is fast, and friendly, and the portions are huge! My first visit and it did not disappoint I had coffee and dark chocolate with fudge and peanut butter. It was a very big portion and so good . My cousin who lived there her whole life suggested it . because it's very rare to find Grape nut ice cream she was in heaven because it's also a topping . Great ice cream! We have a food allergy kiddo. We called ahead and felt confident in their practices. The server was so kind and patient. Let my toddler take his time ordering and asking if it would be safe. She offered to scoop from a fresh container in the back, new scoop and new gloves. Well, if you know a rugby team or perhaps a herd of elephants, send them to this ice cream shop, because the proportions here are bananas! I can't even understand how it works, I think I ordered the smallest size, which is maybe 1 scoop (but it's 3 scoops and it's in a cup the size of my head), then there is 1/4 kiddie (wait what? Are they trying to one-up Starbucks with this confusing menu?), then kiddie, then small, then large (I don't understand how a human could eat this much ice cream in one sitting and I can eat a lot of ice cream). I meant to take a picture of the menu, and it's a big menu, sooooo many flavors. I like variety, so I ordered 3 flavors with my one scoop. A salted caramel with salted pecans, a snickers flavor, and grape nuts (I know, odd combination, but I'm trying to see what they can do with different stuff). Honestly, they were fine, but I could barely tell which flavor was which. I think when these shops have so many flavors they just use the same base and it's just mixed with the toppings at the end. I will say, the grape nuts flavor was actually the best, it had the most unique flavor. The Cookie Monster flavor Noah ordered had big chunks of yummy cookies in it, so there's that! The best ice cream around if you are seeking dairy free options. The owner is super nice and he will actually make custom flavors of ANY ice cream base for his customers. We travel a very good distance for an ice cream experience and it is well worth it!! It can get very buggy, mosquito's while in line or sitting at a picnic table but otherwise always a perfect experience unless they are out of your go to flavor. They even carry locally made non dairy ice cream. I have been a frap guy most of my adult life then suddenly could no longer consume dairy products. Not sure what happened but I certainly want happy about it. Fortunately Hodgie's has stellar non dairy options. Now I buy a quart or gallon and bring it home to add non dairy milk and blend. This ice cream place is a blast from the past. We stopped her on our motorcycles after checking out the cruise night up the road at Skip's Snack Bar. Our friend who has a hearty appetite for ice cream suggested we go here for a summer evening treat. We got there and the place was packed. Two long lines which moved pretty fast. The portions here are gignornmous and the prices are so very reasonable. Se sat outside under the tall towering white pine trees that surround the small barn shack with the paper signs all over the windows. The kids that work here are fun and very friendly. read more

Lol My choice today was, " Coffee Cookie Dough" Hodgies portions are gigantic. So I opted to the abs smallest size : The Hodgie Cup which ended up being just right. As soon as I put my spoon in, I knew this was love! The flavor of coffee was intense enough to come through without creating caffeine jitters. The cookie dough part contained delicious globs flecked with micro chip size pieces of chocolate... Not overpowering.... Beyond delicious. The staff are always so nice & offer ( perhaps to indecisive folks like me?) a sample to try and did so today. However, somehow I all of a sudden became empowered and declined. Nope, the Coffee Cookie Dough was going to be it today. Great choice! It was an early Fall, cool day with showers on & off. And true to form, it made no difference with business at Hodgies. Hodgie's is exactly what an ice cream stand should be: some windows, some counters, some picnic tables, and lots of fresh, homemade ice cream. I've been going here every summer since I can remember, and it's always had the best ice cream, in the biggest servings, for the best price anywhere. I suggest the coffee fudge, coffee cookies and cream, peanut butter cup, chocolate marshmallow, and anything on a handmade sign (these are generally the special flavors of the day). My favorite for a long time was peanut butter cup with crumbled reeses peanut butter cups, hot fudge, and whipped cream. Now I often substitute coffee fudge for that. My all-time favorite, though, is probably the ice coffee frappe with coffee ice cream instead of vanilla. The original owners, the Hodgies, sold the stand a few years ago to a local guy who'd worked there through high school and college, and nothing has changed. Let's all hope it stays that way. read more

I love Hodgies. They have a delicious sugar free banana flavored ice cream that is just wonderful. I like to buy a gallon of it and keep it in the house- that's how good it is. There is usually a pretty long line and I believe that it is cash only- which is minus a star for me- it's really an inconvenience for most people this day and age. Woah dude. So this is a perfect place to start before going to any of Hodgies locations. The portions are ridiculously huge. They sometimes will ask if you "are you sure you want a small? its pretty big" If you are going just for a bit of ice cream, maybe you should learn what each size entails, don't worry though because they have a dictionary in case you need help translating the sizes. So ok they have all these darned sizes...I used to get a 1/4 kiddie which is something like 1 1/2 scoops of heaven, when I realized i just want a ONE SCOOP which really means a ridiculous scoop, its like they use a shovel to fill the cone. Don't even bother with a small, medium or large unless you are feeding a family, its just ridiculous. They usually have an insane amount of flavors too, I believe its Richardsons ice cream, although I could be wrong. Also, this is one of the very very very few places that ever has mint oreo cookie. All of their flavors and toppings just rock my world...they also sell food but I never would come here for the food, I mean seriously. Oh prices, very affordable.
