Great new place that services thin crust wood oven cooked pizzas with amazingly fresh and high quality ingredients. ‍Friendly staff who were very attentive and made you feel welcome. We tried the classic bruschetta and the tomatoes were so incredibly tasty. You can't go wrong with a classic Margherita pizza and for truffle lovers the black truffle, prosciutto cotto and funghi was delicious. The menu is simple and the food tastes like you are eating in Rome. We had a bombolone for dessert (Italian cream filled doughnut) that was out of this world. Restaurant has a hip vibe and nice bar crowd with great for a cocktails. Ask to sit in the corner and you have a view of the Statue of Liberty. Definitely will come back! read more

Good pizza. Would have been a lot better warm and without the server lying to my wife and me about it. After taking our carryout order, the waitress said 10 minutes and took our name. We waited patiently outside close to where she was sitting. Our name was never called but the waitress came outside and was so nice to several people who ordered after us. We went inside a few times to check on the order including at 10 and 20 minutes. Most of those times, the waitress just glared at us while cleaning her nails. 30 minutes later, I asked again; she got up and looked around and found it on a random counter, away from everything else. It was cold. I went in and asked her about it and she lied saying it just came out. I don't know why she was so nice and hand-delivering orders to two other couples while being so rude to us. I hate to go here but the other couples and the waitress were white and we are not. Hopefully that's not the reason but we definitely will not be going back. read more

I don't like pizza but Alex does. And I like anything he likes. But the pizza here was exceptional. Light. Non-greasy. Fresh ingredients used. Made to order. Our hostess/waitress/bartender Sashana was a doll! She took really good care of us. Went above and beyond to accommodate us. She answered my never ending questions about the menu and also gave Alex extra aramena cherries with his cocktail because she knew he liked them very much. Sashana provided us tasty recommendations and checked in on us frequently. We were really happy with her excellent service. Will return as long as indoor dining is not prohibited during pandemic. read more

Fantastic food. Nice cold draft beer (in a real pint glass - seemingly a rare find when dining in the street during COVID restrictions). Very friendly staff who insisted I order the Calabrese pizza with a good Italian pronunciation, I appreciated that. Service got a little slow when the crowd picked up but you gotta cut them some slack during COVID. There weren't many servers and one of them got stuck at the register taking takeout orders. If we didn't have somewhere to be after our meal, it would have been fine. All that being said, I would definitely go back. It's worth going out of your way to explore Red Hook and eat delicious food before or after a stroll on the pier. I'll take this over [BK Crab] any day. read more

I had the experience of a lifetime here tonight. I was at a friend's birthday party, at a table of 13, having a pretty nice time. The pizza was average quality, maybe below average for Brooklyn. But nothing to be upset about. After a while we noticed that many of our pizzas hadn't arrived. About half of our party was Indian and vegetarian, and they were getting hungry. We asked the waitress, and she sent the owner over. The owner immediately got combative with us, and falsely claimed that all our pizzas had been brought to the table. When we started to make a list of the missing pies, she .... wait for it ... called the police. 7 cops showed up. Apparently she complained that we were trying to leave without paying. In fact, we had been trying to get fed. We tried to talk to the owner in the presence of the police, but she got more and more agitated, saying "just get out of here." We we're trying to pay the bill, the cops were trying to supervise us paying the bill, and the owner was yelling trying to kick us out. Which was awkward. Happy birthday! Out party included 2 doctors, 2 teachers, an engineer, a small business owner, artists and writers. Too bad some of them had brown skin! It's impossible to know what was going on in the owners head ... how she could take a minor service hiccup and escalate it into a hostile civil rights affront. But that's what she did. I suggest you spend your money elsewhere. There's certainly much better pizza to be had within a few minutes. read more

This had to be the worst experience in my life. The service was slow and incompetent. We were a group of 12 and we placed a large order of different pizzas four pizzas (mostly vegetarian ) never came out but they were on the bill. When we complained to the owner, she said they did come out. While we were still reviewing the bill THE POLICE showed up. The owner called the cops claiming we were being disruptive, which was complete bs. They told us that we had to pay the bill in full, and if we didn't we would go to jail. The pizzas and food are mediocre at best. Nothing special To the owner, who had one interaction with us, why did you escalate so quickly? The view is amazing, seating is nice, and pizza was great.. however the Waitress forgot one of the pizzas.. we reminded her, but the second pie was undercooked and very mediocre. I am totally willing to give this place another try, but The poor servers were so muddled it just sort of stressed us out today. They couldn't seem to keep who ordered what straight (in a nearly empty restaurant), we had multiple servers asking the same questions, they mixed up our bill, which we had to correct in their favor, and they sat a table of loud, loud children next to a couple of lovey dovey grownups dining alone, although there were tons of other spots open which would have afforded both groups ample privacy. The food was good. We only wanted some aperitifs and appetizers, so I can't comment on the pizza, which everyone seems to really like. We tried a couple of bruschetta and some salumi, which were okay but nothing to write home about. Good bread and fresh, ripe tomatoes! Maybe an off day? We really wanted to like it but the service left us cold. Sometimes you just want to relax and trust that someone knows how to run the show. Next time, Hoek! read more

Tonight was the second time we came here. We were 6 total. The restaurant was hopping; nary a table empty. The owner, Anna, was a delight, as were her staff. We ordered a few cocktails (the sweetest condition-yum!), a bottle of montepulciano, 3 appetizers: bruschetta: meatball, Sicilian tuna, Jersey tomato; a charred beet salad, and 3 pizzas: fior di latte, truffle, & zucchini. To our surprise, Anna brought over 2 other pies while we were waiting for the truffle. Needless to say, we have leftovers. The staff are all super nice; they work extremely hard. The pizza is excellent-the crust, omg the crust. A couple of the pizzas were not as well done as the others, but like I said before, they were slammed. I can totally forgive that. Yes!!! The zucchini pizza is a standout star. But the unexpected hits may actually be the salads. The little gem with the most brilliant use of squash and walnuts! Hoek is our favorite new restaurant in Brooklyn! Not only is the food great but the staff are too. They welcome you like they've known you forever. All our friends who have gone have had the same experience. I love their thin crust pizza. The dough is perfect and doesn't make you feel full even after eating an entire pie! Ambiance and service is good. However, the taste of food fell short. There is no aroma even when pizza is served hot. Prosciutto being used is low quality domestic prosciutto. Ordered a truffle pizza, truffle is invisible. Dough is flat and slightly wet. read more

Solid pizza, great quiet spot, nice outdoor seating ample parking. We started with a classic margherita and one with olives and capers, they were accommodating because we asked to leave out the anchovies. Both pizzas were really good, crust was amazing! We liked it so much that we chose to order a 3rd pizza which was a Gorgonzola with potatoes, again asked them to leave the pancetta, and that was an incredible pizza. My only suggestion to the chef is to slice potatoes thinner, almost wafer thin, they will crisp up and be amazing, and/or try adding caramelized onions on it as well. And then we went for a walk to see the sunset. All in all, amazing spot, and we'll be back soon. read more

Came on a late Saturday afternoon. Quickly seated, excellent service. You can see the pizza being made from anywhere in the restaurant. I had the vodka Prosecco specialty cocktail which was delicious! We ordered the margarita pizza and arugula pizza. Both were delicious, a little much for 2 people but we left very full and happy. The appetizers were ok but the pizza wasn't great. It took a very long time to be served and the pizza was cold when we received it. The sauce was very sweet for my taste and the crust was super dry. Service was mediocre. We got asked for our initial order and after that nobody checked in on us the entire evening to ask if we needed anything else like drink refills or if we wanted to order dessert. The staff seemed very chaotic and disorganized. It took a long time to get our bill. When we followed up to politely request service the staff got defensive. Bottom line - there are plenty of other restaurants to go to in brooklyn with better food & service and that treat ALL people with respect. Spend your money somewhere else! read more

Holly cow red hook finally gets a pizza establishment that's worth going to. The Margarita pizza was perfect from the crust to the sauce. The staff is super friendly and the bar has a nice selection. Fantastic pizza. This is a serious contender for one of the best pizza spots in Brooklyn. The price is fair, 14 bucks for a margarita pizza. They don't skimp on cheese, which is something a lot of the wood fired pizza joints started doing. It goes all the way to the crust. It's Roman style, so thinner and more crisp than neapolitan style. This is seriously the second best pizza I've had in Brooklyn (I know full well how much world class pizza is in bk), second only to Lucali. And Lucali only gets the edge because the dough was slightly burnt on my pizza here. Fine by me though, I'd rather have over than undercooked. I just got a pizza to go, so I can't comment on anything else, but the long haired bartender was a nice dude. The place has huge potential but it's really not as good as the reviews make it to be. I've gone twice and in both visits the pizza topings were uncooked. In both visits the place was severely unstaffed which created long waiting periods even though the place is packed with guests coming for dinner. I came to this restaurant tonight to celebrate my best friend's birthday. We were a group of doctors, teachers, and engineers - half of the group was Indian, half was white. We did not receive all the pizzas we had ordered and when we asked about the status of our food, the owner came over with the bill and asked us to pay it. She said she would take anything off the bill that we didn't receive and that there were still 3 pizzas in the oven. We said we would pay the bill and take the remaining pizzas to go. While we were reviewing the bill, 7 nypd police officers arrived and told us we had to immediately leave the restaurant. The officers told us the owner had reported that we were attempting to leave without paying and were being disorderly. They said if we didn't leave immediately the owner wanted us arrested. We ended up having to pay for food we had not received , 20% gratuity, and are still confused about what we had done wrong. The officers apologized for the situation and told us to report her to the better business bureau. The owner lied to the officers, but they could see through the situation. Because none of us were being disruptive or impolite. We were forced to pay in full and are expecting reparations. Clearly we will never be returning. read more

It took a long time for them to send out the correct order so my kids were starving by the time their food came out. This off the beaten path new pizza restaurant boasts a totally warm and rustic looking atmosphere housed in an old warehouse. As if red Hook was not enough off the beaten path as is, this new addition to Red Hook is off the beaten path in remote red hook! Located closer to the water and off "the main drag" of van brunt streets restaurants and galleries, it is adorned with street art in the exterior on Ferris st, and a rustic vibe inside. There is a large full bar, and leather couches for lounging, but a pretty limited menu. They have some fancy-ish pizzas, a few sandwiches and salads, and some dessert options. Went for my husbands bday for the first time with his parents, who seemed disappointed about the limited menu selections. I think they were looking for some pastas, and "normal" pizza. The special pizza of the day was 4 cheese, which e bday boy opted for. Interesting.... not sure what kind of cheese, but the dominant flavor was def not mozzarella! It was a quite strong tasting cheese, and also topped with sautéed spinach and grape tomato halves. The toppings were fine, for us, but not mentioned at all... it was a surprise. The strong tasting pizza cheese made it taste kinda rich. I don't know if I'd reorder. Myself and father in law got the meatball hoagie- I had heard thru the grapevine that the meatballs were "amazing"-- they were ok, not doing cartwheels over them. Th e "hoagie" was in delicious bread, but def not hoagie style--more like a panini. I enjoyed mine for th e most part, and FIL seemed un-impressed. Lastly MIL got a special, pumpkin ravioli, which she claimed were good, but judging how much she (didn't) eat, she may have just been being nice. Bottom line, I had a nice time, enjoyed the space, and the food was ok. I loved the atmosphere. Looks like a great place to meet friends for some drinks. I think the in laws were seeking some more traditional type Italian, and NY style pizza, and said they'll stick to Marks Pizza, the take out joint on Van Brunt. read more

The first time we tried to visit this place, we were informed this pizza restaurant had run out of pizza dough, so we'd need to order something else. We were feeling generous, so we sat down and started planning to order a salad and some appetizers. After 25 min, a waitress walked over, looking irritated, and asked us if we had decided. She then broke eye contact and walked away before we had a chance to order. We decided to give them another chance some other night, and left. Unfortunately, when we did return, we realized the food is almost as bad as the service. It's cheap, but just... meh. The pizza was oily, heavy, and hadn't really cooked through. The beet salad was just some lightly cooked, diced beets in a scoop next to some greens. And, last but not least, their very spacious seating area somehow stunk overwhelmingly of cleaning products and mop water. What a bummer! read more

That said, I won't go back except to order takeout, then stand outside-- because of the outrageously loud music. I'm the third person so far among neighbors who agree. I am begging the owners to dampen these dangerous decibels, which will hurt your ears and those of your staff and customers. You're the closest restaurant to the quiet waterfront in Red Hook on perhaps the quietest corner in NYC, and yet you've brought this blaring Manhattan club music to it. Your fantastic, delish place is not called Hoek-Up, so please ditch the meat-market music. In the long run, this business is guaranteed to succeed. The building's interior, location, and (from my first two orders) pizza are all a recipe for success. BUT, as of Sept. 2019, it is also very clear that the owners either a) tried give under-experienced staff and management a chance at running the place, just to be nice, or b) tried to give under-experienced staff and management a chance at running the place, just to be cheap. Either way, it's really unfortunate to see the mid-level management ruining the whole thing. It's NYC and I've seen so many hard working and capable staff work their butts off for relatively low pay. Red Hook is inconvenient, but it's still NYC and you can find great people here. Advice to the owners: stay your course, but fire quickly and hire more slowly. You are going into Red Hook's slow season, so you might be tempted to keep the staff you have, but invest the winter months in replacing them. read more

She gave us not enough pizzas for our party vs what was ordered and then when we asked a question about our bill to clarify she called the police! We are a group of highly educated and calm people and should not be treated this way. Came to Hoek on a Saturday night, the place was so cool, very understated chic ambiance, really mixed crowd, a true reflection of Red Hook's artsy scene. . Hoek is located deep into Red Hook you can actually see the Statue of Liberty. The space is spacious, one side has a very chill bar with leather sofas and at the other end are tables for service. The atmosphere is sexy, moody with great music playing in the background. The food was excellent, we tried a few pizzas & appetizers. Loved the Sicilian tuna bruschetta. Solid wine & cocktail menu. Service was casual & attentive. This place would be great for large parties, bridal showers, birthday celebrations and also romantic date night. Love Hoek, reminds of the days when restaurants were cool places you had to search for in an off neighborhood. When you would arrive outside the storefront and wonder if you'd made a mistake, then you stepped into a warm, bustling festive restaurant. Try it! read more

Incredible pizza. LOVE the cocktails. Amazing owners and staff. Perfect location (for a date, or friends, or solo!) I usually take my pizza to go and eat by the waterfront, which is just around the corner. (And has a killer view of the statue of liberty, especially at sunset).
