The edible was what I was there for: we spent ages deciding between different varieties of (very healthy) cucumber starts and patio tomatoes. Shopping inside was a bit challenging, because they were closing out summer and autumn items in preparation for Christmas (and you know they'll have a great Christmas display, because it's a Hewitt's). But I did manage to find a few deals on summer items. It's unlikely I'd shop here regularly, mostly because there's another Hewitt's 1 mile from where I live, but I'd certainly stop in again if I'm in the area.

Nurseries and gardens help me relive that realisation. We've been to this Hewitt's a number of times, and on this latest visit, made very similar observations. They have as wide a variety of plants, trees, and gardening supplies as other nurseries in the region, but perhaps the plants are not getting as close attention as at some others, Nisky Faddegon's, which I realise is more an exception, not the norm (I've seen plants in worse conditions at Lowe's and Home Depot). It may also be that this is past the peak buying season, but the wilting leaves and perished stalks always manage to tug at my heartstrings. They had just what we were looking for: arbricola green! We grabbed two of the healthier looking. There was a variegated variety which was denser than what we got. Their indoor plant selection is still one of the best around here, and the staff there have always been friendly. I hope the locals continue to support Hewitt's and they stay open for many more decades.

He returned several weeks later to do the pruning - probably the tree's first in over 50 years. The tree is now much lighter and looks great - cant wait for this year's crop of apples! Jerry is extremely personable and very thoughtful. During his two visits he provided very helpful information about tree care. Also Jerry and his colleague (oops, cant remember his name) did a terrific job of cleaning up. I also appreciated that New Leaf kept me updated about my appointment date and the time of arrival. Highly recommend.

New Leaf finished a 4 day tree removal project yesterday and my wife and I could not be happier…read morewith the outcome. The project involved taking 10 large trees down from around the house and pool area. We were amazed at how neat they were at the end of each day, as well as the brisk pace they were able to work. Professional tree services can be costly, but we feel that we were treated very fairly, and based on our knowledge of other area tree services, New Leaf is a tremendous value. Today, Monday wasn't busy. Myself and one customer. I purchased $400 worth of shrubs and various compost, fertilizer etc. The store was more than staffed, several men and women working in the landscape area, but no offer to assist. One man did however make sure he wrote the green slip for 6 forsythia in my wagon. And then he watched me wheel that wagon to the front, and watched me return to where he was still standing and get the second wagon full of plants and then watched me wheel that one to the front also. Not busy, standing around with the 4 other employees. Not a hose in their hand, no moving landscape. Standing. Watching a 60+, 5' tall, 100 lb lady loading and wheeling around landscape. Chatting, phone checking. I went in and paid the cashier with a pixie cut. She could not seem any less friendly. In my head I rationalized that maybe she was having a bad day. This tells you how unfriendly she was; as a customer I was expending mental energy wondering why the Hewitt's employee seemed annoyed with me making a purchase. I had purchased bags of compost and potting soil and she told me to drive around to pick them up. I told her I had a lot to load into the truck and please wait to call, it would take me a few minutes to load up. Again, no offer to send anyone to give me a hand. It took me several minutes to load most of it but I needed another cardboard box. I returned to the store to get another cardboard box and she said "you should hurry, I called them". Incredulous, I stared at her waiting for a smile or to say something else, nothing. She wasn't kidding, she wasn't having a bad day, she was stunningly rude. I drove back and the kid loaded 6 bags of compost and he said you are all set. I said there are 2 bags of potting soil too. He said they didn't say anything about that. Do you have a receipt? I sure did, for $400 which included the two bags of $5 potting soil that he was worried were being stolen because pixie cut didn't give him accurate info. I actually asked the guy loading the bags if the store had changed hands, it was so awful and uncomfortable, I thought maybe Jason was no longer there. He assured me it was the same management. Good to know. I understand loss prevention, but without employee common sense, an ability to practice some discretion, meet an expectation that customers should be treated cordially or to help customers move and load landscaping that is being purchased, we don't need to shop there. Way to end a 20 plus relationship Hewitts. I'll shop the big box where I hate what I am supporting, but I like the way that I am treated.

absolutely appalled!…read more the guy jason disappeared for 20 minutes leaving people standing in line to checkout.. rang the bell multiple times, called the business phone, customers looking around outside for the guy... then he has the audacity to treat us horribly and yell at the customers, cut them off constantly, the other customers also got in on telling the guy how wrong it was to leave customers hanging for 20+ minutes... insane
