Stay far away! Horrible. We arrived at 10:30 am for breakfast and we were the only ones in the restaurant. Placed our order and it took 55 minutes until our breakfast arrived. I've been coming to Hoffman House since i was a little girl, getting a toy out of the treasure chest. As an adult, the dining room is a favorite Rockford spot for me and my mom to have a nice dinner. The salad bar is the best in town, hands down. They have a huge variety, something for everyone and I have never been disappointed. Tonight our server was Beatrice, who is in my opinion, their best server. We have had her in the past, and she always goes above and beyond to accommodate whatever we need. Tonight was no different. The Hoffman House was amazing!! They catered our wedding last month & we couldn't have been happier with their service. With our wedding changes due to COVID, we only booked Hoffman House 3.5 weeks before our wedding... in that short amount of time they were so helpful during the planning process! Julie was so responsive and patient with all of our menu choices & changes. The menu was so hard to pick from as they have such fun & yummy choices. The day of, LaVita and the Hoffman team were wonderful & friendly. LaVita was more than just the onsite supervisor, she was constantly making sure my husband & I were okay & taken care of. She was so sweet & we loved her! The whole team made our guests feel very safe (due to COVID) with the food during dinner. MOST IMPORTANTLY, the food was soooo delicious!!! Its hard to give this place a solid review. Don't get me wrong there was nothing bad about this place, the only problem was that there was nothing special either. I ordered my usual cheeseburger, and it was very good. Most places never get the temperature right. I usually order medium but I get well done or medium rare. Hoffman house got it exactly right. The service was good not great. The fried bread was ok. It tasted like a donut to me. The people I went with all enjoyed their food but weren't blown away with it. The prices are high so be prepared to spend about 25 to 30 a person on average. I don't think I'd go again because there are better places in the area. read more

Located next to the Holiday Inn Express in Rockford, Illinois - this steakhouse is LEGIT. The salad bar has lots of options and including cheese. The beef vegetable soup I had big chunks of beef and lots of hearty vegetables. THOSE BEIGNETS! Those delicious, light, and airy morsels brought me back to Café Du Monde. We ate at the Scorecard Bar tonight. We both had the burgers and fries! I had bacon on mine with American cheese. I asked for Medium Rare, and it WAS Medium Rare. And hot! The fries were perfect! My bacon was warm and just like I like it! My wife's burger was with Cheddar cheese and medium. It was delicious! We arrived too early for the dining room, so after talking to Leah, our waitress, we decided to stay in the bar and enjoy our meals. We certainly did! Leah was the perfect waitress. The service was 4.5 star. The salad bar was a 4.5+ star, fresh, well stocked and super selection including soup. Their lunch specials are priced fairly and good. SO WHY THE TWO STAR RATING? I have been dinning here for over ten years and it was the go to place for prime rib of beef in Rockford. Not today. The prime rib of beef is a low grade choice rib of beef or high grade select rib of beef. No marbling, chewie and totally lacking the prime taste. This has been the case the last three times. I ordered the prime (SELECT) rib of beef rare -- it arrived medium to medium well -- didn't mention it to the wait person -- just ate it. The meat was a strange cut as the graining was more horizontal then the proper vertical. I asked about their Friday night fish fry. The wait person said that they had all you can eat cod and Alaska Wally. BIG PROBLEM -- there ain't no wally in Alaska. This is a marketing name for pollack which is a cheap salt water fish that you would expect to find in a neighborhood family restaurant but not in a higher priced "quality" dinning establishment. It seems the generational change in management is having a major impact. read more

I came here with some of my extended family (about 16 people). We had two waitresses at our table. The waitress who was serving my side of the table (wore glasses and was probably in her 30s or 40s) was rude and very snappy to my sister and I. Most of us ordered the New York Strip or Prime Rib. They always ask how we would like it cooked. Those who had asked for their steaks to be medium rare came out medium well or vice versa. I've been here for a couple of their brunch buffets. They have an amazingly huge selection. It is definitely a good value. Given that the food sits out over a flame for a while, things do become overcooked, or cold, depending, so that was the case for some items, but overall I recommend the buffet. read more

When first walking in we were greeted with warm welcomes and nice smiles. We were seated immediately and our waitress brought us waters the minute we sat down. She was so lovely and nice to us. I was probably the youngest person in the whole place, but the atmosphere was inviting and I didn't feel at all out of place. The lunch special was ONLY $9.99 per person for a meal AND the salad bar and unlimited soup. The food was delicious and I got to get 1/2 a side of red roasted potatoes and the other 1/2 of mashed with gravy. THEY ARE SO FLEXIBLE. The food is what I would call "Wisconsin Classic", and the place feels like a supper club. If I was staying at the Holiday Inn that houses this place I would be very happy, as I wouldn't expect this level of eats from a Holiday Inn. As a Hotel concierge I always like to send my customers to the Hoffman House. Skip the chain steakhouses and enjoy one of Rockford's Treasures. No better place in town for prime rib. I also have enjoyed the New York Strip. If you want a great Friday Fish place, they have an all you can eat. The salad bar in my favorite. If you're looking for something on the lighter side or want to watch your favorite sports team, check out the Scoreboard Lounge. Lots of seating, lots of T.V.s and a huge main screen. After reading about the salad bar I was dying to try it, but it didn't live up to the hype. They only had one soup choice, and it wasn't very good. The salads were just... salads. Nothing extraordinary at all. I did order a sweet potato on the side, and that was very good, but I could have done without the strange powdered sugar bread/fried donuts and I could have found a less expensive salad of equal quality almost anywhere. I ordered the Hoffman House prime rib which was decent (although not as awesome as they think it is according to it being the most expensive item on Scoreboard's menu), however the fries were so bad that they are actually the reason I am writing this review. They tasted as though they had been fried a week ago and had been microwaved for 4 different guests over the course of 4 days and had been turned away by each guest only to be offered to the next.
