We've passed by Tad's many times since moving to the west side of the Rock at the beginning of July, and finally decided to stop in for lunch. It has a great view of the river, and is probably a really great bar to hang out at for drinks, but I would not recommend eating here. We originally stepped outside, thinking it would be nice to sit by the water, but I'm not a fan of the humidity, so we went back inside to sit in the air conditioning. Neither of us were up for drinking so I originally ordered a non-sweetened ice tea. It had a funky taste to it, so I switched to just water. I ordered the Turkey Wrap with chips for $12.95. It was basically an overpriced lettuce wrap. There was a single slice of turkey and a single slice of provolone. There was more wrap and lettuce than anything. For the price, I expected more turkey. I will admit, their craisin & cream cheese dressing is fantastic though. My fiancé ordered the Pork Tenderloin sandwich with fries. His was more reasonably priced at just under $10, but that was just for the sandwich. The fries were an additional $1.50 charge. If you're looking for a neighborhood bar with great views of the river, this is the place, but it's definitely not a joint to find a decent meal. read more

This was a bar I stopped into while out driving. We had always meant to try this bar out as we've driven past it multiple times, but never stopped. We decided that we were going to give them a try. Despite it's location and exterior appearance, this was actually a really nice bar on the inside. It was clean and well kept. There was a pool table to play and they had a fireplace. Although it was not going when I was there. The drinks were priced reasonably. Nothing too expensive. The staff was nice and efficient. It was between the lunch and dinner crowd when we were there, and it seemed like there was a nice crowd starting to build gather. If you are in the neighborhood and are looking for a drink, I'd recommend stopping in. as we weren't hungry, we didn't order any food so I really can't comment on that. Stopped for drinks at the outdoor bar. Place was crawling with ants. My boyfriend had an ant crawling on his lime and I had two dead ants in my drink. I regret ever come to tads. I ordered no onions on my wrap because I'm deathly allergic. The first order came out, with onions which wasn't a big deal because I noticed... I then reminded her AGAIN that I can not have them. She came out with my "new" order which she claimed had no onions.. when I first saw it, I could tell that they just pulled out the onions and rewrapped it. I asked her if it was fresh and she said yes. I asked again because I could clearly tell that the wrap had been unwrapped and rewrapped. She said yes again and said the chef assures that it is fresh and without onions. The second she walked away I found more onions... I am disappointed and disgusted on my experience. I have been here a dozen times year round....over the years. Sure summer is the high season at Tads...tiki bar dock...deck....sun fun on the water....obvious smart choice......but its winter .....and watching the ice float down the Rock while cozy and warm on a SUNDAY morning eating brunch is pretty darn awesome....COME ON its magical! BEST steak & Eggs in town. The steak was cooked to perfection med/rare like its suppose to be...the eggs over easy like heaven ...the crispy yet tender hash browns golden delicious....The western Omelette and the Sourdough toast....oh yeah now your living...for the kids the pancakes n sausage n bacon !!! Chef knows his grill and how to deliver consistent top notch eats every time....breakfast,lunch and dinner! The service....well that is also amazing! BEST WALLEYE FISH FRY EVARRR IN ROCKFORD AREA. I've had my share of fried walleye in several places that say theirs is the best but Tad's wins hands down. You get a choice of creamy potatoes or french fries with your walleye and coleslaw. I don't usually care for coleslaw but I did try it. Nothing fancy there. Got the creamy potatoes and WOWZAH were those delish! They were golden and buttery and the portions were just right. Our table was a bit wobbly and the bathroom stall didn't have a latch which always bothers me but all in all, it's worth the best walleye in town! read more

Fun outdoor space right in the river for food & drinks. We came in the afternoon with a big group of kids and adults in between baseball games and the staff made sure we got quick food for the kids and drinks for the adults. My boyfriend and I were in from Chicago and decided to search for a place to eat that sounded like it could be decent and fun. We decided to check out Tad's specifically because of the tiki bar on the river. The food at this place isn't the greatest, but you don't come here for the food-at least not in the summer. That's why I still give it 4 stars despite the food. Although there's not much to look at in front of the building, you make your way through to the back outside patio that sits right on the Rock River and it's beautiful. My boyfriend and I grabbed a table right at the edge of the deck and enjoyed sitting there for a couple of hours in the nice weather and view of the water. It was fun to see many different boats drive up, park, and empty with people that joined us on the patio. The music in the background was not overwhelming, and the atmosphere was fun and laid back. There were alway many staff members around, making it so you never had to wait long if you needed something. Although the inside is large, has darts, pool tables, a fireplace, and couches, it is rather dark and not very inviting. To me the outside patio is what makes this place. Although the food isn't anything to brag about, it certainly is decent enough to eat while enjoying the view. This is also a wonderful place to just grab a drink or two and enjoy the beautiful view on the patio. We will definitely come back! At least on a warm summer or fall day. read more

This time Stephanie was bartending and John was the cook and they both were extremely personable and attentive! went here for the first time for lunch today. Sat at a table outside, next to the water. we waited 10 minutes and no waitress came to our table, it was hot and we were thirsty so I got up and went to the outside bar to get a drink, it took 8 minutes for the bartender to even acknowledge me, even when there was only 7 people seated at the bar. Sat back at our table for another 5 minutes, I then had to get up, walk inside and ask for a waitress. 5 minutes later she came out, never apologized for the wait, she took our order, we ordered cheese curds to start and a burger and chicken sandwich. It was litterly 43 minutes until our cheese curds came out, again, never said sorry. Then it was another 10 minutes for our food. Again, never said sorry. My sandwich was wrong, asked for a side of mayonnaise and a side of pickles, which I never received, I waited another 10 minutes and then I had to go back inside and ask for the mayonnaise, but at the point my sandwich was cold and I ate 3 bites and was done, it didn't even taste good. The fries were the best part of the meal and those were sub-par. The waitress never came back to ask how our meal was or if we needed anything,had to get up and find her to get the check. I also had to go up to the bar myself to get another drink. The outside patio was busy, but there were two other waitresses working the patio as well, and they were taking care of their customers just fine. Iam in the service industry so I know how it goes some days, if your busy or the cooks are behind I understand, but like I stated above, the other waitresses were serving their customers just fine. She was one of the worst servers I've ever had. A sorry will go a long way with me, if you apologize, give me a smile and say thank you for waiting, that would of helped a lot, but to never say thank you for waiting, or to say sorry, or even acknowledge us at all basically is ridiculous. I never got the waitresses name, because she never offered it, but she had long brown hair in a ponytail, glasses, a bunch of tattoos, one being multi colored stars on her shoulder and arm. ah, what to say about Tad's. it's not a bad spot if you like people watching. the crowd tends to vary. sometimes it's a Cougar Den and others it's a mix of gangsta wannabes and such. It's usually a good time though. the drinks are priced fair and the food isn't bad. Just ordered takeout at Tads Bar & Grill, couldn't believe they charge an extra $1.50 for carryout? Why? I realize the containers cost, i'm fine with that, but $1.50 per carryout container, that's more than the owner is paying for them, so the owner needs to make extra money on the containers? It should be enough that I'm spending money at the establishment, but again even if they pay .50 ea, why am I paying $1.50, I'm actually saving them money, no customer service other than pickup, no dishes to wash, no condiments used. The patio restaurant has a great view of the river, nice staff, but honestly the pizza sucks! We were in town for the night and wanted something to eat that was close by, and quick, but not fast food. The previous reviews for the establishment were both good and not so good. Other guests seemed to be enjoying their meals tonight as the parking lot was full and most tables were occupied on the patio. So, we ordered a pizza and weren't thrilled with the pizza, so we left the crust. The crust is not homemade and was very difficult to bite into, and when you do it has no flavor and takes away from the otherwise good pizza sauce and cheese toppings, etc. We liked the restaurant location and enjoyed watching the few boats we saw go by on the river. The pizza gets no stars. The restaurant and staff gets 4 stars for making the lousy pizza ordeal tolerable. This= An average of 2 stars. read more

I have to say this is one on my must go to bars when Im back at home the best time to hit this place up is in the summer the deck is open it's located right on the river so you can always pull up on your boat and dock it and enjoy some great drinks they have live music great bands always playing not to mention both the dj Timmay and Jkstylin Keele are always spinning some great beats. Came in to watch the Liverpool match and couldn't have asked for a better experience. Extremely friendly and engaging staff/ownership.
