The employee stated clearly the issue and didn't believe I should have been charged. However, I heard the owner over the phone say to charge us. In respond to being contacted. Interesting that he remembers this after almost 2 years. He remembers calling, texting, coming to my home? If he had offered the refund, why would I not take it? Since, he stated he made a mistake and should not have charged me, the right thing to do is mail me my check of $234 if indeed he is an honest person. Stay away from Rich Hoffman. His anger management issues aside, I contracted him to clear the main sewer drain. His team came immediately and used a snake, which appeared to resolve the problem. However, 6 days later the drain was clogged again and overflowed into our basement. I called him to return and he told me that I needed a Jetter instead, which he didn't have. Had he used a camera to diagnose the problem, he would have known that a snake wouldn't have fixed it. Had he used a camera after the job to confirm the the drain was clear, he would have known that it wasn't. He never stood by his job. When I called him to discuss a partial refund, his anger management issues, bad attitude and overall rudeness were in full display. Who needs to deal with an angry plumber who doesn't guarantee the work? I had to pay for another plumber to come. He first diagnosed the problem with a camera and then told me that it needed a jetter (not a snake). When he was done, he used the camera again to make sure it was clear. He fixed it, guaranteed it for 60 days, and one week later, he hasn't yet asked for payment to make sure all is good. Reliable, trustworthy and guarantees the work. We had an oil to gas conversion done by Rich and his crew. Apparently this is not a desirable job for plumbers. I called many plumbers who never returned my calls or flat out just said, "I don't do that." Fortunately, I left a message with Rich and he soon called me back. This was taking place in early September. We both knew colder weather was coming soon so we got right to it. Rich walked me through the steps and we made a plan together. Determining BTUs of new gas boiler, existing BTU consumption, and determining if we actually had enough gas supply. Next he helped with the permit process. His guidance was on the money. A few days later we were in possession of the required permits. Rich and his crew started quickly by removing our old oil tank and scrapping it. Our town required that we have a receipt indicating that the tank was properly disposed of. He returned the receipt to us. Next up he removed the oil boiler and got the gas unit into place. Hooked up all the pipes, replaced the automatic water feed, and hooked up the electric. Next he replaced a steam radiator. That afternoon, we had the heat rolling! A month later Rich returned to service the new gas boiler and just make sure everything it still functioning as it should. Rich and his guys are super friendly. They posses a great work ethic and are tidy while they are working. The do CLEAN work. My wife really appreciated the time he took to explain things to her. It was comforting knowing all the information since it was a big job. The pricing was fair and in line with what one would expect to pay for a job of this nature. These guys at Hoffman Plumbing have saved me now - TWICE. I live in a wooded area where roots get into my pipes. The first time it happened time I called AJ Perri using their $99 pipe-clearing guarantee. The guy from AJ Perri spent 1/2 a day here and opened the pipe to a trickle and considered that meeting the 'guarantee'. He wanted to set up a "camera appointment" for which their office does a hard sell (check their reviews for lots of detail on THAT). Anyway, I then got a referral to Rich from a friend, and he responded right away and completely cleared the pipe after a much shorter period. Fast forward 1 1/2 years and here I am with a major backup from the upstairs bathroom to the kitchen to the laundry room. Rich returned my call within 3 MINUTES and sent a crew first thing in the morning. His crew, Paul and Dan, were efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. It did take a few hours, but they got the job done and the price was fair and reasonable. I can't give these guys a good enough recommendation. Tere are a lot of scammers out there and we constantly have to be on the lookout. I hired Hoffman Plumbing to do some plumbing work for my salon. I needed two hair washing sinks installed, a washer/dryer hookup and a new hot water heater installed. Rich responded quickly via phone and text. He was easy to do business with. When we first met he came with a worker, I forget her name (sorry), but she was great. She was super friendly and complimentary of the new space that looked a mess at the time. But she saw my vision and I appreciated her enthusiasm. (Sometimes opening a business can be overwhelming and I needed the encouragement) Throughout the entire process I met a few different workers and they were all polite and friendly. And did a good job. The price was fair and I appreciated that. My first complaint was I wish the "floor sinks" (for hair washing sinks) would have been explained to me a little more. I don't particularly love them, would of liked to hear a different option. 2nd complaint, when it was crunch time and the inspectors were coming I did have to follow up more often to push the process along. I was afraid it wouldn't be done in time for inspection, he had it all under control the whole time. But I wish he would have explained that so that I wouldn't have been worrying. He actually first declined the work saying that it should be the water company's responsibility which I agreed with and I went back and forth with the water company. Eventually, it turned out to be the homeowner's responsibility, so I called him back and he did the work in about an hour on a couple days' notice. He responds directly to texts on his phone and comes on time. Most importantly, there was no outrageous service fee to just take a look at the issue, just like it used to be. I called Hoffman Plumbing as his name was given to me by a friend who gave him some rave reviews. I hired him to come to unclog my drain. After a week the sink began to back up again. I called him twice left messages message and he NEVER up to today has not returned my calls. Meanwhile I called another plumber who charged me $50. less than Hoffman and he cleaned the main pipe leading to the clogged sink. I told the plumber that Hoffman said that he snaked 35 feet. His reply was if he did do that he would have been out to the sewer. It has been a month now and my sink works perfectly. The clog was in the main sink pipe on the lower level all he did was clean the sink pipe. He did not have the courtesy t return my calls nor did he stand by his work. He charged enough for nothing!!
