The salad bar didn't even have iceberg lettuce. The desert was some type of lemon cake that would be considered the size of a sliver. 16.35? Are you kidding me? Let's just put that in perspective. That's enough for 3 people to eat Buffett at Cicis. That's enough for two people to eat at most Chinese buffets. That's enough to eat at Golden Corral. Leave a tip and still leave with a few dollars. It's enough for two large pepperoni pizzas at papa Johns. Have they lost their damn mind? All for some mediocre low end food? I posted a picture of the receipt. What's up with that? It doesn't even show how much for the anorexic Buffett or sippie cup tea.

They do sauce on the side here, a testimony to their efforts in the smokehouse. Nice smoke line evident in the meat. The sliced beef was a bit on the dry side. And would stick to the ribs next time. Baldwin was a close small town off the road, so we explored a bit and found this smokehouse, which seemed to be the most populated building in the area! The owner (or owner's wife?) was super busy doing everything up front, but took care of everyone and was very actively friendly, exactly emulating the idea of southern hospitality. We got wings and a pork dinner all of which were very flavorful (crispy but not overly fried wings, great smoking on the pork) with excellent textures. The green beans were some of the best I've ever had, and the fries were basically perfect. The banana pudding was kind of off-putting compared to the rest of the food, tasted like it was made either very artificially or with unripe bananas, but maybe I'm not very used to the flavor because I don't have it much. The smoothness of it was great. The shop was pretty small but fully packed until halfway through our food, as we arrived a bit later than the usual lunchtime, and was very cozy. Only complaint is the environment bit dirty, but with so many customers only a couple people working, it makes sense. Will come again if in the area!

I'm not sure if Yelp has the address right, so I included a pic of their business card. If any of my adventurous Jacksonville Yeeps out there are up for a restaurant roadtrip, then Lacy's is my first 2020 recommendation. It's literally the only business...not just restaurant, gas, station, or store....the only establishment of any kind for miles and miles and miles. I travel to Georgia to visit family during the holidays, and this last time, I took the back roads to avoid all the traffic. I stumbled upon Lacy's while I was frantically searching for a restroom and a place to stock up on snacks. The Ins and Outs: The exterior gives the impression of your everyday run of the mill corner store/gas station that's been there for decades. But as I walked in I immediately stopped in my tracks and all my senses went on high alert. Directly in front of me were 2 menu boards, pictures of food offerings, an ice cream counter, and the glorious sounds and smells of eats being freshly prepared in the kitchen. To the right was the convenience store, to the left was the dining room. My jaw dropped because there was NO signage or any indication outside that this was also a restaurant. Immediately I turned my focus back to the menu. The Noms: There are both breakfast and lunch/dinner offerings, but the kind lady (owner?) informed me that both menus are served from opening to closing (YAY!). While there were many things that looked both tasty and tempting, I decided to start the new year off with a bang and order the Heart Attack Burger, which comes topped with cheddar, swiss, fried egg, bacon, grilled onions, and mushrooms on homemade garlic bread. YUP...this ain't no "New Years Resolution Diet" joint, Yeeps. I opted for no mushrooms, though, since I've never been into those. It's been a long time since I've been this excited about a burger, but let me tell you, this was a BURGER. It was hearty, juicy, meaty, cheesy and kicked up even further by the egg, bacon, and onions. And the garlic bread? Hell YES. Every bite was savored and there's one thing for sure...I am COMING BACK for this burger. And So: There's also a Barbeque menu only served on Saturdays (see pics), which I'm also excited to try. They're open 7 days a week from 7am to 9pm, but the grill closes at 7pm. There's fountain drinks available, but I opted for a nostalgic bottle of cold Frostie Root Beer that day. The good sized dining room is full of eye-catching nostalgia, such as the vintage soda machines, and historic photos along the wall of Moniac. GO HERE....EAT HERE. I was pleasantly surprised to see the nice presentation in the to go box. They placed a piece of wax paper on top of the meal so the barbecue sauce was not all over the top of the lid when you opened it. It definitely made the meal even more appealing! Presentation is everything. I shared the 2 meat platter with my daughter and we both loved it! The meat was sooo tender along with a smoky flavor. The bonus was the savory barbecue sauce on top!
