Whenever I visit Jax I always look forward to real BBQ. Usually I visit another favorite but this time my sister and I decided to try out The Butt Hutt for the first time. We came in on a Wednesday evening. We asked about the menu and were told at the counter that it was Wing Wednesday and the wings were $1 each. Well how could we not add those onto our order. We ordered a Burnt Ends platter with mac and cheese, and corn nuggets, a Brisket Platter with corn nuggets and beans. We also ordered a large mac for my son and a side of lean brisket. For the wings we ordered the Cajun ranch. Our food started coming out in about 5 minutes. Firstly, I was shocked at the wings. I love wings, but they aren't something I usually order often as I find them just OK. There are only a couple places that I visit specifically for wings. Well, let me tell you, I would make a visit back just for these wings. OMG, the Cajun ranch was simply amazing, really addictive. They were my favorite item. We devoured them. The burnt ends were very good. I appreciate they are big chunks of brisket with no pull pork filler. The flavor was amazing as well and the bits of fat melted in our mouth. The corn nuggets were fine and the Mac N Cheese was quite tasty. We enjoyed the meal so much, were were trying to figure out somewhere for a family lunch the next Sunday and came back again. This time my sister, son and I brought my dad. We of course ordered more wings and burnt ends and brisket with lots of Mac N Cheese. The food really is something special. The wings are absolutely wonderful and the burnt ends are a hit. This is definitely one of my new favorite restaurants and will always be on my list of visits to enjoy when I come back to Jax. read more

If you are a meat lover, this is your place! My husband wanted to go here for Father's Day and Oh My.... At soon as I saw the menu, I knew it why. They have inside and outside seating area. We order the two meat plates, french fries with bacon, and a taco plate. The brisket and burnt ends were delicious. The chicken had a lot of flavor and loved it the cilantro lime coleslaw. The shredded pork was ok, it needed more flavor, maybe so you can eat with the sauces they have at the table. Service was fast. Good place to try if you don't have high cholesterol lol read more

Thanks going out to Butt Hutt Sweepstakes by Jacksonville Fun, Eats and Drinks that I won. It was a "Four Pack" win. So, I invited my roommate', Ernie, my friends Arlynn and Joe to join us. We had brisket, pulled pork, two large sides, Texas toast, and four drinks. Then Ernie ordered a side of fries and Arlynn and Noe ordered two large sides(come slaw and Mac n cheese)of BBQ Baked beans. We met at 2pm, after the lunch crowd was gone. I loved the murals all around the building on Roosevelt Blvd(near Edgewood exit). Parking was fine. I went in and told the Waitress I was there a little early. When everyone was there, I went up and ordered. Everyone employee was so nice. The BBQ & sides were delicious. The sweet tea was very good. This is a great spot for some authentic barbecue! They have both outdoor and indoor seating. They also serve local Beers on tap. I was pleasantly surprised to see they offered burnt ends as not many spots do. I ordered that, the Cole slaw, and the potato salad. Not a huge fan of the potato salad but i enjoyed everything else! Dive bar energy with really good food. Service was quick and friendly, prices were high'ish and atmosphere was pleasant. This is definitely a locals spot - quite a few Day drinkers when I went lol. Burn ends 3/5 - really kind of meh, they tasted more like griddled chunks of roast beef. Mac n cheese 3.5/5 - pretty good the first day but didn't reheat well and was a little dry the next day. Potato Salad 5/5 - so good, more savory than sweet and perfect texture and creamy flavor. Wings 4.5/5 - very good flavor and sauces. I got the Cajun ranch and sweet heat, both were delicious. Dive on the side of a busy road and difficult to get to! Your adventure will be well worth it. Straight up legit smoked meats. The beans (which I always judge BBQ joints by: canned vs bottom up), were bottom up. They take care of details and the BBQ is amazing. Beans were the best I have ever had. Pulled pork was straight up legit! Mac n Cheese was really good too. Most dry it out or is flavorless. This was really good too. Staff was AWESOME! All of them! All 3 sauces were great! Some days I need to pick me up, and when that happens, I head to one of my favorite lunch spots, like Butt Hutt. BH started as a food truck, where they want awards just about every event they went to, but the restaurant location has allowed the chef to master his craft, Speaking of the chef, if you told me he was Cordon Bleu trained , I wouldn't doubt it in the least. The way he melts flavors, cheeses, spices so that they are subtle, but not overpowering is something few people can master. But he does it with each dish, put in unique and different ways. Don't think that when you go, you're just going to get barbecue, because that would minimize your experience. First, the location is easy to access, there's a private lot and there's indoor and outdoor seating. Indoor has TVs a bar and the great smell of barbecue. But you really want to read about the food don't you? Sauces - I normally like the original sauce, but there's a spicy version, and probably a spicier version if you ask. But I'm not a spicy guy, so I don't ask. Corn nuggets - one of my favorite, favorite items on the menu. Send exterior code, sweet taste of corn inside, it really is a great dish. Coleslaw - really unique and flavorful, not by normal, but it is very tasty Sandwiches - you cannot go wrong with any of them, of course you can't go wrong with their platters either Brisket melt - this is what I got on this trip, I wasn't sure what I got. For instance, the chef chose Munster cheese, which to me sounded odd, but with the brisket and the barbecue sauce, it was amazing. We dined in and the restaurant was busy. We sat outside. The food came out quickly and three sauce options were dropped off at the table. All the meats were tender and flavorful. The coleslaw was tangy and had a unique flavor compared to a traditional coleslaw. The fries were crispy and well seasoned. Fantastic food - excellent service. We got a platter (4 meats and two large sides). Everything was yummy. We got the brisket, the burnt ends, pulled pork, and jerk chicken and the sides were the slaw and potato salad. All the meats were perfectly cooked and presented warm and juicy. The slaw is a cilantro lime slaw, not your usual BBQ style of slaw, and I am here for it. The potato salad was also a southern style potato salad with a taste of mustard. All if these items were fantastic. Believe it or not, my favorite thing was the fresh made pork rinds with an absolute banger of pimento cheese dip. First time dining in this weekend at The Butt Hutt. Indoor and outdoor seating here. Casual but cool. Great decor. Inside there are tables, and a great bar with TVs. Perfect for watching a game. We've had carry out here before, the food has always been impeccable. Dining in, we were able to experience the excellent service and a special that was one of the most amazing things I've eaten...deep fried Mac and cheese. It was decadent, hearty, just perfect, truly amazing. The Butt Hutt may not have the numerous sauces you'd find at other local BBQ spots, it's because they done need to do that. I've had the Butt Hutt marked to check out for awhile now. After an event nearby I stopped in for a takeout order. When you walk in jump in line and order first then find a seat. There were a few folks in front of me but the line moved quickly. I ordered the lean brisket platter with greens and mac and cheese. I requested mustard sauce as that's my favorite. It was lunch time and they were busy but my order was up in no time and I was on my way home. The brisket was tender, juicy and full of flavor! I loved both sides. Last week we went for lunch with friends. We ordered combo platter for 4. We ordered brisket, pulled pork, baked beans, slaw, fries, and msc and cheese. It came with texas toast. Today I tried The Butt Hutt Smokehouse for the first time. I pulled into the small parking lot and entered the establishment. It was very clean and not crowded at all. I was greeted quickly and with a smile. I grabbed a menu and ended up ordering a jerk chicken platter with spicy mac and cheese and baked beans, an order of curry fries with burnt ends for a protein, coleslaw, and finally an order of corn nuggets. While I waited at the bar, that's right they have a bar that sells beer, wine, and cocktails, I tried a jaguar juice. The drink was refreshing and visually satisfying. My food came out quick and hot. The jerk chicken was surprisingly good. It was spicy and flavorful. The curry fries were also great, bursting with flavors and a very generous portion of my choice of protein which was burnt ends. The corn nuggets were great and had a very tasty dipping sauce that accompanied them. The slaw was very fresh and crispy, not very wet or creamy, if you like more of a zing, this is more the direction that they took probably a bit of Jalapeño vinegar of sorts. The Mac n cheese was cool not like a baked style but more of a skillet style. The baked beens were pretty good and hearty, there was sausage in them so beware if you don't eat pork. The hints of slow smoking meats wafted through the parking lot inviting customers inside... the familiar sights and sounds of a bbq joint. Nice selection of beers on tap and otherwise. I got burnt ends with beans and slaw, my friend got spicy sausage with mac and potato salad. We both commented on how good the sides were respectively. My burnt ends were end of the day and last portions served, so a little on the tougher side. But we all know a good sauce covers a multitude of sins Fantastic quality and portions for the cost. I was first taken to the Butt Hut by a buddy and then went back with my wife. In my estimation the best beef brisket in all of Jax can be found there. The other meats may be great too but I cannot get past the excellent brisket. The prices seem steep at first, but the PORTIONS. Two people can easily share one of their signature brisket sandwiches and not be hungry. Plus their sides are really different. Their slaw is kind of Asian inspired and though it is not one of my favorite things, it is certainly a departure from the usual. Their fries are ok, nothing particularly noteworthy, but their corn nuggets are super!!! The staff are friendly and helpful, though busy as heck because I really have never seen it when it was not full. What keeps it from being EXCELLENT is kind of the building. If you go there on a hot day it is very warm inside and if it is a cold day then the constant opening of the door by incoming patrons makes it cold. I don't mind sitting at smallish tables and having an odd assortment of utensils, but I do want to be warm in winter and cool in summer. I know, I know if it bothers me why do I go, but I like the food and at the same time am in my late 70's so I want a little comfort. I ordered the brisket platter with collard greens, mac & cheese and garlic toast. Hubby ordered the brisket and pulled pork platter with fries, mac & cheese and garlic toast. The brisket was flavorful and juicy with a nice smoke ring. I really enjoyed the collard greens! I wasn't a huge fan of their mac & cheese. I was at the block Jax and saw Butt Hutt had a location there. I told my sister we could instead go to their Roosevelt location for seating and experience. I arrived and was cashed out at 7:54pm. Ordered about $66 dollars worth of food. Sat by the door and the waitress/cashier saw us and also marked my food order for here. I sat and waited, it was nearing 8:40pm and nothing. I got up to ask if my order was ready and she was like, "Oh, it's up here. They just bagged it" And grabs it from the top shelf. I decided to take it home since they bagged it. I stopped outside to check if there was bbq sauce and I ended up going in to get some feom from the table I sat at. My food was cold. In real honestly, the so called bbq they have in NY is nothing compared to here and Texas. We have so many good BBQ places around Riverside, but this was the first time we dined in at this one. I would probably only dine in in cooler weather in the future, as even the small inside area was pretty warm. I love the outside seating options and will definitely return as the weather cools. It's #TacoTuesday so you know what that means! I'm checking out another spot for some yummy tacos! Today's pick was The Butt Hutt Smokehouse. I grabbed the 2 tacos combo with a side. For my choice of protein I went with the Jerk Chicken and I picked Collard Greens with Brisket as my side item. Paired the meal off with an Orange Blossom Pilsner. The tacos were fantastic with great flavor and spice. I really liked the cilantro lime slaw they topped the tacos with as well. The collards were okay. Just not my preferred flavor palette. They had a bit of a sweetness to them, and I enjoy a more savory style collard. I did eat them all because they weren't bad, just not my preferred taste. This was my first visit to their brick and mortar location. I've ate at the truck a handful of times. I hope they stick around. I love that they have a bar inside with some good craft beers on hand and their outdoor patio seating is nice and large. Drew & Cory were so welcoming and kind on our visit The epitome of customer service I had the pulled pork sandwich with a side of Mac and cheese. *Side note- I eat like an 8 year old* Y'all this meat was so juicy and flavorful.. it really didn't need sauce, but I added their sweet sauce just to give it a try. I left no crumbs. The bread held up well and was buttery and toasted. The Mac and cheese has 3 cheeses in it and has a slight smokey flavor on the back end. So delicious! My husband had the jerk chicken thigh sandwich with collard greens. The jerk sandwich was just sooo good... brioche bun holds up very well, doesn't get soggy. Jerk seasoning is great and pairs very well with the garlic cilantro aioli. The spring mix on the sandwich was nice and fresh! The red onion just made the sandwich hit even harder. Walked onto the colorful porch and you definitely get warm weather bar area the inside does give bar with a small food area probably about 6-8 inside tables and some seating at the bar. They encourage ordering at the kiosk but they will take your order at the bar. You can platters salads or sandwiches. They hey do have a kids menu as well. He ordered the pulled pork platter with fries and corn nuggets (with an up charge) and a drink, I ordered the brisket melt which was sauced with a sweet/smoky bbq sauce. I also got the garlic Mac and cheese. I also asked for a 1/2 order of Florida fries with rib tips as my meat. (You choose a meat, it comes with a cheese sauce, chopped Poblanos, a garlic aioli and chopped onions. However when our food came it didn't have the Florida fries just regular side of fries. The receipt doesn't show the itemized sides, she stated I ordered regular fries but she did make the Florida fries for me. I could have been wrong but I will double check next time and take a photo of my order as well just to be sure. He didn't like the slightly butter taste of the pork, but enjoyed his fries and the corn nuggets were alright. He didn't like any of the sauces because he likes a vinegar Carolina sauce which none were an option. If I order the melt again I would say no sauce so I could try their other sauces. The garlic Mac and cheese was very creamy and had a forward flavor of garlic but not overpowering. The Florida fries I would probably just get the plain ones. I enjoyed the aioli and the liquid cheese but I like well overdone and very soft onions and peppers, and these were caramelized good but not overcooked enough for my taste. Stopped in at the Butt Hutt today for a quick lunch. I kept it simple with a pulled pork sandwich and fries. My lunch partner had one of today's specials which was a tri-tip sandwich and baked beans. My pork sandwich was passable, but not outstanding. It was a little dry. Fries were good. Partner said the Tri-tip sandwich was good and flavorful. Bun was crispy around the edges and buttered, and the beans were flavorful. Access to the restaurant was a little interesting as we had to make a couple of u-turns to be able to get in. Probably some of the best ribs I've ever had. The barbecue is outstanding and, in my opinion, it's the best BBQ in Jacksonville. My only criticism is that I wish the restaurant were in a nicer location. That said, the food is absolutely worth the visit. read more

Stopped in here today to get a late lunch because I was famished after running errands. This small eclectic place on Roosevelt near Edgewood serves some great food. They have counter service (both in person and kiosk) with runners who bring your food. The place also has inside and outside seating but there is much more outside seating than inside seating. I opted to sit inside bc the music was a little loud for my taste (but bonus points for playing Tyler Childers). I ordered the two jerk chicken taco meal with a side of collard greens. I also added a third taco for $6. My food came out after a short time and it was delicious. The tacos were flavorful and filled with lots of chicken. They were topped with pico and cilantro lime slaw. They were great and they load them so full you will need a fork to scoop up the stuff that falls out. As good as the tacos were, I wish I would have skipped the third taco and ordered another side of collard greens. They were amazing, loaded with bacon and seasoned with some sort of barbecue flavoring. My only concern was that it cost me $30 for my meal with tip (my soda was $3.59). I know food prices are up and maybe I don't eat out enough but that was a little high. Also, if you order anything fried there is a $1 upcharge. Would definitely go back but I am gonna have to make sure my wife does not fuss at me for my bill. read more

We live nearby and cannot find another spot like it. We do wish we could just walk to the spot. It's in the old island bar. The food is amazing! We love to sit outside and car/train watch. They have an amazing 2-6pm happy hour everyday. The meat is always juicy and flavorful. I've been to Mojos and Bearded Pig recently and Butt Hutt blows them out of the water. I love how quick their food comes out, hot and fresh! And I cant say I've never had a bad food item. Ribs are awesome! Wings are huge! Pulled pork of fries are like Florida poutine! read more
