Southern Soul BBQ is just as a remember it as a kid but even better. It had probably been 12 years since I have eaten here and it still hits the spot for good BBQ. You order inside and then can take a seat anywhere and they'll bring it to you. We opted for outdoor seating and the weather was perfect. I got the pulled pork sandwich with fries and my husband got the deluxe smoked turkey sandwich with mac and cheese and everything was great. I love the sweet sauce for the pulled pork and the mac and cheese was perfect. I will say the fries could have been warmer. We did come in 45 minutes before close but still. The berry cobbler was out of this world. It was so good we came back the next night just to get some of their peach cobbler to try. They also have a cute merch store where you can get apparel and bbq sauce. Overall a great spot at St Simon's Island

Now this? This is what I call barbecue. This meat was flavorful, tender, juicy, and so good. I ordered a bunch of sides but the bbq beans were unreal. The mac and cheese was just okay but I'm a tough mac and cheese critic. The potato salad was good if you like a mayo-y salad. The service was great and I am literally plotting a chance to get back to St Simons for more. This is the best bbq in GA by far.

We were in the mood for revisiting one of our favorite BBQ joints so we stopped by Southern Soul in Brunswick. What I was really craving was their claim to fame the Brunswick Stew. We ordered the stew as well as their jumbo pulled pork sandwich. The stew had a smoky savory broth with beans and big pieces of mea. It paired well with saltines crackers. The pulled pork was juicy and piled high and went great with the house made bbq sauces. The service was a little off the day we went. The cashier girl felt a bit aloof and did not smile or greet us when we walked in. The ambiance of this place is really cool with all kinds of photos and magazine clipping adorning the walls. You can sit outside under a metal roof and enjoy the airplanes talking off from a nearby runway. When in the area and in mood of some solid BBQ, make sure you stop by southern soul.

    Pastrami special, okra, and slaw

Everything was solid and good. Nothing spectacular, but good. The service was friendly and authentic. The cashier was helpful and engaging. Multiple employees checked on us. The vibe is cool. Fun, relaxed, and comfortable. The meats weren't dry but weren't especially moist. The pastrami was moist and flavorful, but maybe too salty (and I love salt). Pork and brisket were a little disappointing. Ribs were solid. And sausage and turkey were plain. It's certainly worth checking out and it's enjoyable. I wouldn't consider it #1 in the state though. It doesn't quite live up to the reputation.

Really good BBQ!! The turkey sandwich is delicious & HUGE - you could definitely split it btwn 2 people. The fried okra is really good, as is the Mac & cheese. Pulled pork also great! Only gripe is that they don't leave their BBQ sauce on the table for you to try - you order it with your meal. Otherwise, quick service and really good BBQ.

I'm going to start first with customer service. My sandwich was made wrong. I ordered the Pimp Cheese as an add on to the Barbecuban and it wasn't added (although I was charged). When I brought it to their attention they immediately started to make me a new one. They didn't care that my sandwich was half eaten, they immediately went to make the order right. I stopped them from doing that and instead just asked for an extra side of beans. Talk about top notch service! Barbecuban- would rival any Cuban sandwich in Miami. The smokiness from the pork is a real standout. Loved every bite. The next I come here I'm going to get a side of mustard base bbq sauce and dip the sandwich in. Not because it needs it but I think it would be fun. Brunswick Stew- one of the best I ever had. Pulled pork plate with Mac and Cheese and beans, absolutely amazing. Love this spot and can't wait to come back. They do everything right here. Excellent food with equally excellent customer service.

Right by the SSI Airport, on the corner of the roundabout. Arrived for lunch, patio was full & folks lined up at the door. Small joint, very coastal!! Everyone was patient, talking to eachother & just a very chill vibe! We noticed this place was featured on Diners Driveins & Dives, so now we get excited!! Mom got a Ribs- said they were OK. Hubby got the Brisket- said they were really good. Okra was great, greens were OK. Slaw needed seasoning & greens are collards & were also pretty good. Son LOVED his Cuban sandwich!!! I had the Smoked Chicken Salad sandwich- VERY good!!! Brunswick Stew is my childhood- SOOOOO GOOD!!! All in all, a great lunch!! Enjoy the pics & get start craving!!

Great BBQ and fantastic smoked chicken. They always do a great job regardless if it is dine-in or takeout.

I came here for lunch. It was extremely busy. It took about 20 minutes to be noticed I had to give my order before sitting down. I was not seasoned and had to find my own seats by the bathroom door. Food arrived 20 minutes after I had ordered brisket and a cheeseburger cheeseburger was fine and brisket was above average. They were very tender and flavorful. Best barbecue I've had on the island so far, but they could do better with staff.

This was my first time visiting this restaurant. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. The staff is incredibly friendly, and the food is also delicious.

We had a reservation for 9 people at 7:30. We were seated at 7:30 and sat there for 15 minutes before I went to the hostess and asked if we had a server assigned. She apologized and went to correct the situation. Approximately 5 minutes later our waiter Johnny introduced himself. We finally got drinks after we had been there for a half hour. A young man shows up with salads. He hands me the first bowl and asks me to pass the bowl around the table. I don't necessarily like that everyone at the table handled multiple bowls. Food orders were then taken. Our waiter was asked questions and he answered speaking extremely fast and at times we were not able to understand what he was saying. Our meal arrived and no one came back to see if everything was okay or if we needed anything else. We were never served bread and I had to find another server to help us. The atmosphere and food were very good unfortunately our overall experience was not. Since we were a larger party we were atomically charged a standard gratuity that didn't match the service provided. My husband and his team will be here working for the next 6 months. I hope the management of Bennie's reads this review and takes this as an opportunity for improvement.

With the mixed reviews, we knew were were in for a great meal or a bad one, we were not expecting anything in between. It clearly leaned toward the later. The cleanliness of the dishes were hit in miss. You could pick up a plate or fork and it would have dried food on and so you go get another. The restaurant itself is very large and looks really nice. We were very happy with the service provided to us. The best thing on the menu was the fried pork chop, fried chicken, and mashed potatoes. OK as long as she's had plenty of sauce, but I didn't see the fried ribs they were talking about that I was looking forward to trying. The fried shrimp was popcorn shrimp and wasn't great and they didn't offer fish this night or at least we didn't see it. Most if not all the vegetables were cold and had little flavor. The worst dish by far was the fried Okra. One bite and I was done From the dessert bar I enjoyed the banana pudding and had two helpings. The wife thought the pecan pie was pretty good. She absolutely hated the lemon meringue pie which was grainy in texture an overly sweet. And both of us thought the coconut cream pie was not good at all. Again if you're a big eater and you like quantity and lots of options, this place is perfect for you but for us it's not a good deal.

Chef Jerome is a piece of SE Georgia history and makes some fantastic food. From the moment we pulled up to the restaurant, Chef Jerome came out and greeted us with hugs and assurances that he was going to take good care of us. The building is eclectic, quirky, rustic, and several more adjectives - but never off-putting. It is comfortable.... When you walk in, you really get a feel for the history of this place - particularly from the tens of thousands of photos that decorate the walls (virtually all of them) throughout the restaurant. There are pictures of locals, travelers and even several celebrities that have feasted at the Diner. Ben Afflect's picture is featured all over the restaurant as he frequents this place whenever he is in town (he even has his own autographed chair hanging on the wall). We were seated in the VIP room and presented with a menu with several good southern dishes from deviled crab, oysters, scallops and of course shrimp to ribs, porkchops, steaks and burgers.
