Since moving to Franklin one of our favorite BBQ spots is Hogwood. Privately owned not a chain. They take great care in how they smoke their meat and the quality of their meat is excellent. The brisket is smoked perfectly still very juicy with a dissolve in your mouth wow. They are a well trained staff and all is open for you to observe as they cut your serving's. Great side dishes as well. We like their tasty slaw and pickles. Highly recommend Hogwood- rumor has it they may serve their food in Leipers Fork soon. read more

It was super hot out and I wanted a light and refreshing side, so it was pickles or coleslaw. The guy in front of me got the coleslaw and it looked amazing. The sandwich itself was pretty good. It was super messy and hard to eat, but was a great meal for something quick and easy. I was hoping for a little more of a smoky flavor but was satisfied. The food came out super fast! Travel for work and try BBQ across the US. Was excited to try this while in Franklin, given the reviews. Just finished my lunch and was underwhelmed. Here's why: -The pulled pork was super dry. Had to douse it in sauce to avoid mask the dryness. -The Mac N Cheese side was barely room temperature. None of the food was particularly warm, but the Mac was close to being cold. Maybe because I ate soon after they opened for lunch? -The brisket was far better than the pulled pork, but about 40% of the portion was a thick vein of fat. Sure-can cut it out but it didn't leave a whole lot of brisket to enjoy. The spicy sauce was quite good. I'd give that a 4.25 out of 5 stars itself. We had a party of 3, got there at 7:30. We had never been here before and tried this restaurant on a Locals recommendation. We ordered the Hogwood Sandwich with a side of Mac, St. Louis Ribs with Mac and a sausage link, BBQ Nachos with a side of the sausage, and three drinks. 70 bucks with a tip. The food arrived quickly, which was a plus, as we were hungry. The sandwich was adequate at best; there was more slaw than pulled pork, the Mac and Cheese was very disappointing, and there were more overcooked noodles than cheese. The ribs were overcooked and dry, they were tough and tasteless. Same review for the Mac and Cheese. I had the Nachos with Brisket, a huge portion of bad food, the brisket looked like it had been run through a food processor think the consistency of baby food. Not an order that I would repeat or recommend. Then we got up to get a refill of drinks to help wash this "food" down and the soda machine has been turned off and the tea jugs have been removed. No notice, no does anyone need a refill before we start cleaning? We will not return and we will not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Poor hospitality, poor food, so disappointing. read more

We absolutely love this place and eat here weekly. The staff is always very friendly high school kids. We love to see them working and enjoying themselves. The owners must be very good at training them because they are always nice, helpful and extremely polite. The food is excellent. I love that they stick to healthier options and do not use artificial ingredients and flavors. You can taste the quality. It is hands down the best baked potato I have ever had, the best beans I have ever had and the best jalapeño sausage I have ever had. The ingredients are high quality and you can tell. Probably the best bbq place in Franklin. I like the slaw because it is not mayo based. The Mac and cheese is good as well. I like getting the turkey sandwich, adding some pickles and sauce on there and throwing some slaw as well. Wanted a quick dinner before turning in after a late arrival into Nashville airport and drive to Franklin, TN where we're staying. Had to sample some TN BBQ! Impressive smoke smell as soon as you enter.....always a good sign for me. The guy that took our order was very friendly and explained their specialty sides. I opted for their beans and unique coke slaw which is a mix of cabbages and kale. Both really good and unique tasting. THE MEAT! Very good quality of meat for the brisket, however lacked smoke and a bit bland. Their spicy sauce which is flavorful but not what I'd call spicy made a big difference on the brisket. The ribs were flavorful with a bit of a chewy crust, which I like, did not need sauce but it upped the flavor profile nicely. Hogwood, your bbq is good. In fact, your bbq is very good. I want to eat at your place again. In fact, I should eat at your place again. Like now, even though I just left your restaurant an hour ago. Why should I still be hungry? Maybe it's because your portions are too small? I think that It would be more appropriate to supply toothpicks instead of forks. Will I eat at your place again? I think not. Too expensive. I can afford steep prices for bbq, but fairness and principal precludes me from opening your front door again. Drop the prices or up the portion size. Or possibly both. Make up the difference in volume. The Brisket is great, and the Mac and Cheese is definitely worth the calories. Hogwood sausage is OK, but Bar-B-Cuties is a couple of notches above. The bones of the operation are there. The nut for them to crack is how to get the meat off those bones more economically. Quick Tip: Eat lunch at home before you go to eat lunch at Hogwood. We both got the Mac n cheese and that was the real star of the show; it was sooo creamy and flavorful. The bbq sandwich was pretty good and my fiancé loved the Colorado sandwich. Granted it was not busy when we went, but we got our food less than 5 minutes after we ordered. At the end of the meal, a manager came by the tables in there and gave us all moon pies! I just love Hogwood BBQ. The meats are excellent, especially the turkey and the beef brisket. Pulled pork is also very good, and the jalapeño cheddar sausage is excellent. Beyond the "basics", the sandwiches are incredible. The Colorado sandwich is off the charts good, with beef brisket, pepper jack cheese, jalapeños, sauces, and just amazing flavors. The Hogwood sandwich is an amazing variation on a pulled pork sandwich that includes cheese, icebox pickles, and white sauce. Both of these sandwiches are phenomenal, and I have a hard time choosing between the two. The sides are very good, some of them just aren't my personal preference. The pour-over mac n cheese is super great. Their baked beans are savory and very flavorful but I prefer a sweeter style baked bean. Their potato salad is very good, but I prefer a more chunky "backyard style" and theirs is a little closer to a chunky mashed potato consistency. All very good, but not my personal preference. The restaurant has a great casual vibe, with tables available both indoors and outdoors. I've always been very happy with the service here as well. This isn't good ol' southern BBQ, but an artsy-fartsy rendition for pretentious tastes. The pulled pork sandwich had no smokiness. The slaw was heavy with kale and green apple. The brisket platter had nice and tasty meat cuts, although still lacking smokiness. The side of plain white bread was pathetic and could at least have been toasted. The house pickles were thin, floppy, and not a good flavor pairing. The sauce selection is limited to their house sauce in a spicy and mild versions, but was decent. Since they lack many of the traditional sides, I settled for the Hatch Chile Cheese Grits, which were the strongest dish in our order. Their soft drinks fountain offers only the "Stubborn" brand with few diet options. So we settled for sweet tea, which was decent. The interior is concrete floors, metal chairs, and big glass windows, making for a modern but cold seating area. Finally! A good BBQ spot in Cool Springs. For being such a Southern place we do not have enough quality BBQ in the cities right below Nashville. We walked in and ordered around 5PM and had our food in 10-15 minutes. Priced were you're typical BBQ prices $10-15 for most items. The staff were very nice and even gave out free small chocolate moon pies, thats always a plus in my book. The food: I got the Hogwood sandwich (filled with pork, white sauce, cheese, and pickles) and was in love at first bite. Im honestly really happy I finally have a BBQ place I can come and regularly get "my fix" if you will. The Mac & Cheese was a delicious white cheddar/pepper flavor and I was a big fan of it.
