    Shrimp Shumai

Wow! Been looking for a new sushi spot and am very happy to have discovered Hokkaido! Went on a quiet weeknight, so I can't say what it might look like on the weekend. Plenty of takeout ordered being made though! Service seems very efficient and the staff was super friendly. Miso soup was by far the best we've ever tried anywhere. Though we were there for sushi initially, we'll be going back soon for ramen and to try their other options! We were impressed by the quality of sushi and shumai as well! I think my only note for improvement would be an overhaul on the decor. It's an unassuming place, lots of random quotes and photos on the walls - but hey, I'd do a mural myself for free as long as I'm fed their food It was great, 5/5. I'll be back soooooon!

Roach in my ramen. Be very cautious.

Roach in my ramen. Super grossed out. Will not be going back. It was mixed in and I had eaten some bites

Tried the Build Your Own sushi burritos and they're made well here. Good options for fillings, nice portion sizes, and (most importantly) they hold! Nobody likes a sushi burrito that falls apart but that wasn't a problem for us! What a great way to satisfy that sushi craving without actually getting sushi. Inside they've got inspirational quotes on the walls which make for fun conversation starters. Parking is street/metered but there's plenty of it. Enjoyed our lunch here for sure!

The food was spectacular and worth trying out. The meat was amazing and I loved the sushi!! The staff were super friendly and gave great service. The setting was cozy and I enjoyed the inspirational quotes on the wall. Definitely coming back!

Wow wow wow. Man this place is SO UNDERRATED. Write this down. The Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen. Absolutely phenomenal. The broth of this ramen is out of this world. The noodle to broth ratio is perfection. They give like 4 THICK pieces of that delicious pork belly. Great amount of toppings. EVEN A FREE SEASONED EGG. I mean come on now. The pork and vegetable gyoza dumplings, pan fried also amazing. The sushi rolls, creative, filling, and CHEAP. Love this place so much. Always stop by when Im in the Caldwell area.

Quick review for Sushi only. Their sushi menu consists primarily of rolls. We tried the Hokkaido roll. Salmon, tuna, oshinko, cucumber in a soy wrap. It was quite good. We also tried the Eel Dragon roll. Eel, shrimp tempura with Eel sauce. It was pretty good. The only issue was that they really slather on the Eel sauce. It overpowers the fish. We also had a standard Salmon skin roll and a basic Eel roll. Again, both had way too much Eel sauce on top. It's not necessary. The next time I will tell them to hold the sauce on everything. We also split a seaweed salad. It was just eh. Overall the quality was better than I expected. The roll sizes are acceptable. And the prices were pretty fair. The bill for the two of us was $50. which also included two bottles of Jasmine tea. It seems like a majority of their business is take out and delivery. But they do have a several tables available if you prefer to eat in as we did. Nothing fancy, clean and relatively comfortable. FYI - you order at the counter and they bring the meal to your table. All in all I will more than likely try Hokkaido Roll again.

Food was fun, fast and very satisfying! I would definitely recommend coming through if you enjoy great food :) Customer service was polite and helped me make an order on a sushi burrito I've never ordered and was very welcoming. I was so hungry I wanted ramen and had to push myself to get it down because it was so good (my eyes were bigger than my stomach today). Make this your Sunday destination lunch or dinner and you'll be very pleased you did!

Small intimate spot. Family run and they are amiable. Food is always freshly cooked and their steam buns are my favorite!!!

Man... I'm bummed. I'm bummed because I don't live anywhere near this fantastic spot. I was in the area for business and was given ramen as an option for lunch. Of course, this person already looked at the great reviews and that's why this place was chosen. That and it was really cold and there is nothing better than a hot, steaming bowl of ramen to warm you up. The inside is small, but cozy.. with great quotes and pictures on the walls. Service is friendly and patient. I picked the spicy tonkotsu ramen that was presented like a work of art. So beautiful that I almost didn't want to dig in! But, I'm so glad that I did.. the broth was the first thing that I realized was beyond tasty. There is a richness that can't be explained.. sooo good I could just drink that by itself. But, even better are the gelatinous, semi sweet, tender pork belly that were floating around. With everything else added, this was the best bowl of ramen I've ever had.. with just the right amount of spice. I also got some of their spicy tuna nachos that at only $7 were a complete steal. Very nicely sized and priced. Let me say this.. if I'm every in Essex County, this will be a must go for me. Bravo.

It always makes me happy when I find another ramen restaurant as there are definitely not enough if them around. Found this place on Yelp since I am in the area on business and thought I'd give it a try. I'm glad I did! My shoyu ramen bowl was filled with deliciousness! The perfectly cooked noodles were nestled in a steaming bowl of broth that you could tell was simmering all day- flavorful and delicate at the same time. The toppings were all fresh and wonderful- the Chashu pork belly was fatty and delicious, the soft boiled egg was perfectly cooked, the wood ear mushrooms crunchy and satisfying, and the bamboo shoots/bean sprouts/scallions added additional textures and tastes. Together all of the ingredients worked together to deliver a perfect bowl of ramen. Excellent food!

Good food. Lots of noodles in the ramen bowl. Sushi overpriced but tastes good. I would stick to the ramen bowls! Service was great. Ambiance was cute.

I was in the West Caldwell area and wanted to find a place for lunch. Found this restaurant on Yelp and decided to give it a try. I came away really impressed. First of all, the menu is extensive. It's got ramen, sushi burritos, poke bowls, sushi, hibachi noodles, etc. It was almost overwhelming trying to decide what I wanted to order. I ended up getting the spicy tonkatsu ramen, a sushi roll, and a pork bao. All three were good, but I would say the ramen and pork bao were the standouts. The ramen was beautifully put together with very generous portions of toppings. The ramen noodles were firm and the broth was fantastic. The pork bao served as a great appetizer and the pork belly was cooked to succulent perfection. Next time I'm in the area I will definitely return and try some of their other menu items.

Who doesn't love a place with inspirational quotes written on the wall? Especially when it's quotes from Walt Disney, JK Rowling, Abraham Lincoln, Coco Chanel, and more. While the Decor is simple with just a few tables, the food was far from its simple decor. Walking in along the left side of the wall are all the quotes that you see from other yelper's pictures. The menu is on the right side of the wall and there are probably 6-7 tables for patrons. The menu was pretty expensive for a place like this. There are the options of creating your own poke bowl, to getting a sushi burrito, or on cold nights here in Jersey, you can opt for a large bowl of ramen. Being it's been 30 degrees and below, I got a nice big bowl of the pork shio ramen. I can't even describe this bowl to you because there was so much in there...which was a good thing. The pork was surprisingly very tasty and tender to the point where it can match up to the more famous ramen locations around the area. My husband and I shared the J.K. Rowling fries (which I NEEDED just for the name itself), was absolutely delicious. It was a mixture of kimchi and pork pieces and some absolutely delicious sauce that went on top of some perfectly made fries. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at the taste of the food...since the place itself really isn't anything fancy. The reason for only 4 stars is because of the parking. The parking lot behind the restaurant is very small and street parking is metered parking Monday-Friday from 8a-6p. However, beware of getting a ticket if there is even a tiny speck of snow on the ground. Because when I went, the entire street of cars parked on the street received a ticket. After double checking the entire street, no signs were there stating parking is off limit if snow is on the ground and there were no specific signs that say the meter needed to be fed after hours. Regardless I would definitely come back to try the rest of their food!

We walked past it 3 times and when we finally left they decided to shine a light with the logo on the floor. When walking in it's more of a lounge than a true restaurant so prepare for that. You will sit right next to people which isn't my preference but it was fine. We started off with the cucumber salad which was excellent. Just wish there was more cucumber than other veggies they put in it. We then got the Cacio e Pepe Gyoza which was the star of the show. It's was unbelievably good. We followed that up with the calamari which was also extremely good and finished our apps with the Chicken Bao buns that were delicious. My friend got the carbonara dinner and honestly I don't get all the hype. Honestly I thought it did not taste good at all. I had one bite and that was enough. I wasn't sure what it exactly was that made it unappetizing but it just wasn't great for the amount of hype social media gives it. The presentation was beautiful for pictures but the taste wasn't there at all. I had the Spicy Miso Ramen which was very tasty. Only problem was it was about 110 degrees in the restaurant which made hot ramen a lot less enjoyable. The beef that they also put in it didn't taste like much just a piece a beef so that was a little underwhelming. Service was very nice, it just seemed they struggled tending to each table consistently, not sure if they were short staffed or just extremely busy because it was a Friday night. Nonetheless everyone was super friendly and tending to our needs eventually. Overall, I'd say the appetizers were the star of the show. I thought all were delicious. Entrees were a little underwhelming though my ramen was delicious, it was just extremely hot in the restaurant for some reason. Staff were good and price was what I expected. Great place to try but probably won't go back. I shouldn't leave a place sweating after a date night. I think social media hypes the place up too much but it is good just not great. People who come here are worried more about posting on social media than getting great food that the price reflects.
