I've been ordering from Asian delight for corporate lunches for at least 10 years, but have never eaten in the restaurant until now. I came with a friend on a Sunday and had the lunch special. It's a great value and we both enjoyed our meal. I got chicken with broccoli and she got chicken with mixed vegetables. We both finished our plates. I wasn't a fan of the egg rolls, they were just filled with cabbage. I like that this is a standard, old-fashioned Chinese restaurant. They give you noodles when you arrive and a pot of hot tea. The waiter was efficient. The place was very clean and there were others dining in which made us feel at home eating there. I will return. read more

We keep giving this another try and it is way more miss than hit lately. The chicken w/broccoli had barely any chicken. The boneless ribs had no color and no flavor. Chinese food is good, but not from here. Me and my coworker went out for our lunch because it was her anniversary where we worked and we decided to treat ourselves. Craving Chinese food this was the spot closest to us so we went there. Wish we didn't. Spent over $20 (yes 20 is what make in two hours so it's a lot of money on crappy food) for Crab Rangoon which I got got and my coworker got Garlic sauce Chicken with pork fried rice. I got only about 5 Crab Rangoon first of all in my bowl which I remember being $6.and some change for a quarter size amount of filling in them. My coworker had to throw out 75% of her plate because she stated "it tasted like rubber." Absolutely ruined her anniversary and our taste buds. .....Also got the homemade "Sweet Tea"...colored water with a lemon in it. read more

Have been in the Caldwells for a while now and have yet to try Asian Delite. Our friends really enjoy it and I always have heard people talking about it. Finally decided to order take out from them when the Chinese food craving hit. We got an order of general Tsos, pork fried rice, vegetable lo mein, boneless spare ribs and egg rolls. The first thing that stood out to me was how red the general tsos was. In flavor, it was pretty good though. The pork fried rice was sweet! I couldn't bring myself to take another bite it was so strange. I enjoyed the vegetable lo mein but it was a little oiler than I like. The egg rolls were my favorite out of all the foods we ordered. Unfortunately I have to write this negative review. I have been a regular customer here for many years and last night was my last meal there. Over the past year or so we have noticed that the quality of the food has gone down, and last night we had the worst meal. We have tolerated the service, there is one taller waiter who is rude, we give him a pass because the food has been good, but last night he. Got our order wrong, and when we got out meals they were awful. We ordered pan fried dumplings that were over cooked and chewy, not freshly made. The General Tsos chicken was rubbery, dry and tasted reheated! The chicken and broccoli was so salty and swimming in oil. The brown rice was cold and sticky, no flavor whatsoever? We waited more than 1/2 hour for our bill and left very dissatisfied. read more

Came here for lunch with my friends and had an awesome time here. The service was great and the food was delicious. The waiter was attentive. They came by to check on us and refilled our water whenever they saw it was low. The new owner was very friendly! We had ordered a bunch of stuff. We got some chicken Wings to start off with which was hot and crispy. Then we got a sashimi platter and some rolls which was awesome. The presentation was great! You know the expression" the old Mare ain't what she used to be" well apropos for this establishment. It's a shadow of the former place. I Ordered sweet and sour soup (my favorite in Chinese restaurants) mediocre at best here. Not pungent and dark, here kinda light and meek tasting. My companion ordered vegetable tempura and it was in a tasteless batter. That was retired to the kitchen immediately, it was far from edible. We also ordered boneless spare ribs which were juicy and flavorful. Now my selection, the old stand by... pork fried rice. That was great. Filled with egg and onion and peas. Now round two for the Mrs. String bean and beef. String beans good, meat all grizzle and calloused. That was it we Cut our losses and asked for the bill. FYI...Left no tip. The restaurant was clean for the most part, sans the rug which definitely needed a professional cleaning. Service provider was not so nice ( not rude) just seemed disinterested and never came over to check on us. I needed to call her over for the original displeasure of the tempura. Not going back sadly. Will continue to frequent Hunan Taste in Montclair. Much better read more

My favorite place for Chinese food and it never disappoints. This restaurant has the freshest, well prepared and flavorful food. The portions are very generous. If you get delivery they food is always hit and within the time frame they say. Drivers are friendly. My new favorite meal is Kung Pao Calamari. So much calamari you wouldn't believe it. We ordered Sesame Chicken, chicken lo mein, spring rolls, and pork dumplings. The dumplings were so doughy I could not eat it. The chicken lo mein was tasteless. The spring rolls were extremely greasy. The sesame chicken was the best of a horrible bunch of food. And that did not approach being as good as mediocre. I will cross this place off. read more

Everything is always fresh and delicious... and there is almost never a long wait for your food to get to the table... often it take longer to decide what to order! I always order the sushi and make sure to try what ever special sushi roll they have featured...never disappoints! We ordered for the 1st. Time in a long time. We were 100% disappointed. No flavor in ANY of the 5 items we ordered. We called to let them know. It is in the garbage still warm! Closer to 3.5 stars. So I've been working in the area for over a year and a half. When I go out for lunch for Chinese food i usually go to a place in roseland, which is 10-25 minutes away. Not feeling like driving there I figure I would try this place out. When I walk in I feel like I've walked into a Chinese restaurant from 25 years ago. Crispy noodles on the table with the chinese zodiac placemat. The greeter/owner/manager seemed nice enough. About half full with I think one other Asian customer besides myself. I know that sounds an alarm for a lot of yelpers, but I usually glaze over all those reviews. The menu has your typical American Chinese fare along with some Japanese items including sushi. I did not look at the Japanese part of the menu and probably wouldn't order any of that. I zeroed I'm on the section entitled "Chinatown favorites." There are things on there atypical of many Chinese restaurants in the area. I order pork chop over rice and an egg roll. The food came out a little slower than expected. Not slow but rather if you're used to the almost unnatural speed Chinese restaurants get their food out, this place isn't that. The egg roll was generic and unmemorable. When the main dish came out, it was definitely bigger than I expected. A fairly large, thick, bone-in pork chop with a generous portion of rice, some vegetables and a little picked mustard greens. Flavor was fine, maybe a tad over cooked but it's hard to fry a pork chop that think with the bone in. Maybe I'm a bit over-critical since I just came back from Taiwan. Egg roll and main dish less than $11 (tip extra). So in conclusion, I would definitely go back and try some other things. Service is fine and plenty of parking. read more

I'm so happy I came here after talking to many people for recommendations in the area. I work close by and came in one day after work and I'm so happy I did. The Chinese food here is excellent and so is the sushi. I grew up in a place where I went to only one Chinese place because it was so good that I always get nervous to try a new place. This place has become my go to for sashimi in the Caldwells. It used to be Ocha, with an occasional stint at Nori, but something changed at all three locations. Asian Delite previously did your average Chinese food best, while Ocha always rocked the sushi. Now, Ocha can't even slice all the way through it's sashimi offerings and the majority of the fish is chewy (sinew), while Asian Delite's sashimi and sushi has been exemplary. Both the texture and overall presentation has been superb (by NJ standards, not CA or even NY) at Asian Delite, for takeout. I have no experience with their inside dining however. I discovered the spot by accident. I went to the Essex mall to view the marshals which was a big bust but that's a whole different story. I got hungry and look for a place to eat and I saw This place. I walked in and it was completely empty I was the only patron at the time. The gentleman sat me at a single table bought me the condiments and took my order I had the sushi salad plate and I ordered beef and broccoli to go. Let me say that first of all everything was delicious it was nice to be able to sit down in a Chinese restaurant and get all the little treats that you used to like the noodles and the duck sauce the pot of tea. Wow! What a disappointment. I used to come here on a pretty frequent basis. They used to have outstanding sushi. Used to. Hadn't been here in awhile and met a friend for lunch who also liked it here. We ordered the sushi lunch, pretty basic rolls. After eating a piece or two, we looked at each other with the same face. Not very good. Had an off, sour, old taste. Way too overpriced for Chinese Food. I ordered the General Tso's Special and it was priced at $15.99 so I figured I would be getting a really generous helping of food. When i got home i realized that price didn't even include Pork Fried Rice! yes, the chicken was a nice amount of food-- but at that price, i would expect Fried Rice at the very least. but nope, only white rice. The ladies at the counter were VERY friendly, which was nice. The General Tso's chicken also had a great taste and nice crispiness to it. but i cant get over the lack of pork fried rice. Disappointed! The flavor was really lacking. I ordered two dishes that are usually very spicy so I asked that they be lightly spiced and then received no spice. I had to load both dishes with soy sauce so there was some taste. For the price they charge definitely not worth it. Will not be back! read more
