Came here on a Monday during lunch. We were the only ones here. I have been to probably 100 sushi spots easily all over the country. I will not be back here. The tempura in the shrimp tempura roll was actually breadcrumbs. Not panko even. The sushi was just okay. It was mostly filler items than actual Fish. The dumpling sauce was exceptionally salty. The location is clean. We also ordered a coke from a can which was flat. And the next one they brought was also flat. Must be kept in the heat? They also had probably 70 pre made eel sauce, chipotle mayo, and soy sauce made for 50 cents. Personally I think that's kind of gross to have them sitting in pasto containers for who knows how long. I have come here a couple times, and I've had a great experience always, except this one. I have never tasted a Red Dragon roll so good before coming here. All of their rolls are always delicious! But the service seemed to be the problem. It took us an hour to receive our meal. The table across from us ended up paying the bill, leaving, and packing their food to go. The restaurant wasn't as busy for a Friday night. There were only two servers and that seemed to be the problem. Overall, I love coming here for their delicious rolls! I was in the neighborhood and came in to grab a quick lunch. The restaurant has nice decor and the service was quick. I got a chirashi which was pretty good. The sashimi was fresh and tasty. It's $25 so don't expect a super fancy chirashi with ingredients like uni and salmon roe. It has salmon, tuna, fluke, tamago, shrimp, and imitation crab sticks. Overall this place is so cute. The ambience is not typical of a sushi restaurant but is very nice and I loved it. The pork gyoza were some of the best we have had. I loved the sushi rolls I ordeeed (shrimp with spicy mayo and a tuna roll). They weren't too big which I appreciate. Only complaint was The kids ordered their usual chicken yaki udon and they liked the chicken but the sauce had an overall taste of cinnamon sweetness they did not like. Other orders were yellowtail sashimi and salmon avocado rolls, cucumber rolls, seaweed salad and miso soup. It's BYOB which is great too. read more

My boyfriend and I ordered three rolls from Sushi Cafe for delivery one weekend night from Grubhub and waited around 45-55 minutes for the order to arrive (as estimated). We were excited when the sushi arrived through contactless delivery and immediately dug in. Needless to say, the sushi was pretty darn good. We ordered the salmon roll, spicy tuna roll, and the Tokyo Roll. The salmon and tuna fish in the sushi tasted fresh and soft and super yummy along with the avocado. My experience ordering a pick-up through their website: I read about a free appetizer offer for online orders, so I went on their website and ordered 3 rolls, 2 shumai appetizers, and a Gyoza, plus an extra Gyoza as the free appetizer. I noted "4 people" to ensure enough sauces and chopsticks. When my husband brought the order home, the bag was soaked from leaking sauces, they gave us only ONE pair of chopsticks for four people, and the free appetizer was missing. It comes with Salmon fried with broccoli, 4 pieces of California rolls, 2 fried dumplings and salad ( I ordered salad instead of miso soup for the side, then I ended up having too much salad for lunch ). The price $13.99 is fair. The salmon is very fresh, but the rest items are nothing good. Maybe they shall improve the quality of rice, it's too sticky and sour. read more

It is a very cheap option for pretty good sushi. $6.99 for two rolls lunch special 11:30-3:00. $10 minimum on cards. Sat at the sushi bar. Ordered a miso soup and a green salad. The miso soup had great flavors! Just the right amount of salt. There was a perfect amount of scallions but barely any tofu or seaweed. I barely cared though because the broth was super good. The green salad was great as well. The ginger dressing was not too overpowering and enough was provided for the whole salad. Now onto the sushi. It was made really fast! Eight pieces is one roll. Lovely, you barely find a place that does eight pieces. I ordered the Tokyo and Philadelphia roll. They both were good just lacked flavor. All the flavors just meshed into one, rather than tasting everything that's in it. It was fresh but just one note. The low sodium soy sauce is extremely low sodium. Tastes like they mix it with water. When you pour it into the dish it's super light. The lightest soy sauce I've ever seen. Barely any salt. Even though the sushi was one note, I am definitely making this place my go-to-sushi-lunch spot because it's fast, cheap, and the food is good. I am excited to come back and try their special rolls. I think 3 1/2 would be my rating... to start this is an unusual Japanese restaurant, nothing wrong with that, it just took us aback a bit at first. Staff are mostly 20-something white guys dressed like they're serving burgers at a surf shop (including 1/2 the guys working the sushi bar) t shirts with cartoon logos, baseball caps...but all good...they were all friendly. Big Beatles posters with glitter on one wall, rice paper panels on the other...a little overly bright lighting. TVs at the sushi bar. I guess I should have expected something less traditional when I came for the live music. Pretty low prices. Menu could have had more vegetarian options, but was okay. They didn't have an ice bucket for wine & refilled water glasses with a gallon jug of Poland Spring...???.... We came a distance from home because a band we like (The Koots) was playing here, but we might come back when we're in the area. read more

I love this new location! It's close and décor is beautiful and more modern & better parking lot vs. the old location. The food is still as good as the old location. Definitely cannot beat the value. All the rolls are good and fresh. I usually split the sushi boat with my niece and it's awesome. The only one thing for improvement is sometimes the rolls are a little loose. If that's tightened up a bit, it would be all good. I definitely recommend this place. It's one of my fave restaurants around the west Essex area. read more

Myth debunked: you DO NOT have to go into all the way into the city to find delicious Sushi! Come to this cute cafe for an amazing meal at a fantastic price. I ordered a Shrimp Tempura roll & a Cucumber roll as part of the Two-Roll Lunch Special. My boyfriend ordered the Chicken Teriyaki Bento lunch special. The waitress asked if we wanted our Miso Soups, which were complimentary with our lunch orders. (I love that she asked first, because I don't like soup & I always feel embarrassed to waste it!) Check out my pictures, because this lunch was a feast for the tummy AND the eyes! My boyfriend's Bento was overflowing with delicious food. He really enjoyed the chicken teriyaki & the dumplings. My two rolls were so fresh -- the shrimp tempura was still warm, & the texture was delicious next to the soft, fluffy sticky rice. My only complaint is that the rolls (especially the Cucumber roll) could've been a little bit tighter, because some of the filling fell out as I picked them up. The sauce on top of the tempura roll was to die for, & there was enough on the plate to use for dipping! My two rolls were beautifully presented, even at 1:30pm on a Wednesday afternoon! All in all, we spent just a hair over $20 for a great lunch. Even the decor was traditional, with tables and a sushi bar ... and they even had 90s alternative music playing softly in the background! Yelp asked me to consider the pandemic before I posted. My complaint has nothing to do with food but has everything to do with service. On 5/27/21 I come into the restaurant to order food. First time customer, long time sushi lover. As I'm about to order another customer comes in after me and a server/waiter/employee asks if my order can wait while they person after me is served his take out order first. I was in the restaurant first for at least 10 minutes. I don't think that's fair. I'm placing a complaint for mgmt to see. I never tasted the food. I'm appalled. I left the establishment. As I approached my vehicle the customer who was waited on ahead of came to me and apologized and stated "they must be smoking too much pot " and agreed that my order should've been taken ahead of his take out pick up. My hope is that the customer service is improved upon. Sadly I'll never return to verify. Good luck. read more
