Ordered a beige couch... The store called within days to say it would be delivered Friday then called Thursday saying delivery was delayed. Then delivered a Platinum couch!!! Looks almost like beige, but no! Platinum is not beige! Called the store the man tried to tell me "oh did you look at the computer screen, did it say beige or Platinum, beige is called Platinum sometimes?" Me "what!" "No I ordered a beige couch, no one said anything about Platinum!" They are completely different colors!!! Spoke to the manager who said this would be fixed Monday today giving the okey doke saying he's waiting for an answer from Ashley furniture. This place seems nice. Everything is clean, well staffed, the furniture is fashionable but well priced (not too high but about what you're expecting to pay) but do NOT fall for it. I bought a $700 couch from Holbrook's in August and within two weeks the wooden beam in the couch broke. Only 2 150 pound people were sitting watching tv. We took the couch back and asked for a new model, we were told that no one has complained about this couch and the only one they had left in stock was the floor model but we could go ahead and take it but keep our cushions. No refund offered. This couch we reenforced by stacking books under the beams. We had to replace this couch within 3 months and when we got our new couch we looked into our cheaply made wooden frame it was cracked in 4 different places. read more

I am a Camp fire survivor. I lived in an uncomfortable RV for fourteen months waiting to rebuild my home. The day I could move in. I used what I had left of my insurance to buy, what in the showroom seemed to be, a very comfortable sofa and loveseat set from the Chico Furniture Direct Store. What I picked up from their warehouse was not that comfortable. After two years they were completely broken-down and painful to sit on. It turns out someone did not staple together the furniture frame. After months of calling and waiting the store replace both as I had a lifetime warranty on the frame. The new sofa and love seat had the same factory defects as the ones they replaced. They were painful to sit on because someone did not staple together the lower back support. When I told the store manager. She told me they have retroactively changed their lifetime warranty to only one year. Then stopped returning emails, calls and blocked me from commenting on their Facebook ads. I was stuck two sets of broken furniture and nothing to sit on in my new home that didn't hurt my back. Aaron at Holbrooks clearance center in Chico saw my Facebook post about what had happened. He commented "They didn't even offer to fix it? I work at Holbrooks clearance center in Chico. We fix stuff for people that's years old. If we get stuff damaged like that. We return it to the manufacturers and get a new set for our customers. That's not good what they are doing." I should have bought my furniture from Holbrooks but I was stuck now, well, no I was not. At Holbrooks clearance center in Chico they have a heart. Aaron looked at the pictures and said bring it in I can fix that. I didn't buy it from them but I will never buy furniture anywhere else in the future. Aaron repaired the factory defects in my new furniture at the Holbrooks store in Chico. Thanks to Aaron's repair work. I can finally sit in comfort to enjoy my new home. It's been hard since the Camp fire destroyed everything we had in the world. There are many people out there ready to take advantage of our disaster to cheat us or rip us off. We must help ourselves. The people at Holbrooks Clearance Center in Chico were kind to this survivor. They are people we can trust to buy furniture when the PG&E money finally comes. They get five stars for their work, kindness and being decent human beings. Fire survivors can count Holbrooks for our furniture needs. read more

We had a fast delivery from respectful and trustworthy people bring what we got from the store exactly how we saw it. I bought my first couch and bed from Holbrooks today, I am more than satisfied with the furniture, workers, and deal I got! Their workers were trustful and left in my cammed rooms alone while watching my cameras; they werent at all weird, didnt look around our rooms, listened to how/where I wanted everything, took my old furniture, and were very kind to my animals. I had an excellent experience here. I don't really care for shopping and after being through the Campfire was not so picky about what I wanted. Within 45 min had tried several mattresses picked the one I thought felt the most comfortable, paid for it and had them load it in our truck. No muss no fuss. They even gave me a 15% discount for being a Campfire survivor! Thanks guys! Update: I've had the bed a month now...and it is so comfy. Love it! We've been shopping at Holbrook's furniture store for years now. I always love the special attention that we got from the assistant manager Derek (Who is now, I understand the new manager). Whenever we didn't find what we were looking for, Derek has always encouraged us to look through the catalog or their website. Even now that we no longer live in Chico, we still order furniture through Holbrooks. Last year we bought a vacation home and bought the majority of our furniture through one of the Holbrook websites. Again we were so impressed with the professionalism and knowledge of Derek. He really was so helpful with all of our decisions. Their prices are very reasonable and the furniture is very well-made. A delivery date was set and the truck arrived on time and was professionally unloaded and set up in our home. I can't recommend the store more. read more

Don't buy their refurbished Sacramento mattress factory mattresses, they smell bad and are used and refurbished mattresses.

Went to Holbrook's a couple months back in the hopes of an inexpensive mattress. I found inexpensive but it was most DEFINITELY at the cost of the quality. Not even a full week into having the mattress, I started to notice countless bug bites all over my body. I started considering the possibilities of how I might have gotten them because I didn't want to jump to the conclusion that the mattress gave me the bed bugs (spoiler alert: it did). After arriving at the conclusion that it was in fact the mattress-- this was after mulling over that I had been living in the same place for a year prior, none of my guests or neighbors had bed bugs, none of my house mates had bed bugs, and I hadn't introduced any new furniture or used belongings that possibly could have had bed bugs-- I gave Holbrook's a call. I informed them of the situation and to my dismay, was "reaffirmed" by the store owner that all mattresses are certified and sanitized in a factory. Sidenote, the person I spoke with was also very rude, short, and payed no interest to the customers overall experience with his business. I was offered store credit as they don't offer refunds but who in their right mind would buy again from a place that has bed bugs? Lastly, as I was taking the bed to the dump, I noticed some "used" labels. To my knowledge, the store does not advertise that their beds are used nor was I informed that I was getting a used mattress upon purchasing. I've read through some of the other reviews and my experience does not seem to be unique. I'm writing this review in the hopes that customers won't spend their money at a place that takes part is such poor business habits. If I could give a 0 star rating, I would. read more

Do not buy from this place, they totally batted and switched me. I bought a mattress that I loved. When I went to pick it up they gave me a different mattress claiming they sold the one I originally bought and gave me a completely different bed. I don't know why I took it, but the only way I can describe this bed is a medieval torture device. I know that sounds like a gross exaggeration, but I assure you it is not. I drop a couple of bills here everytime I move back to Chico. The furniture isnt amazeballs GREAT, but hey, this isnt a super high end store in downtown San Francisco, now is it? No. No, it is not. BUT they do have a selection that you can work with, that is not all black, or made of pressboard and pretty stylish. The furniture was broken the first time a 130lb person gingerly sat on it. A chip on the second piece was hidden. When I returned to the store the same guy said he didn't remember me or the purchase. So first off let me say I was kind of skeptical about coming to this place because of all the reviews and the ratings on this place. I needed to find furniture that was in stock in store and didn't need to be ordered so I called and they told me that they sell everything that they have in store. So I decided to go check it out for myself, I purchased a dining room table and a couch set and I hauled it away myself. When I got home I noticed one leg on a chair was damaged and they told me they would order it and it would take 2-4 weeks and they offered to let me borrow any chair they had until mine came in that same day they called me and told me they could have it in 2 days, I got everything now and I could not be happier I like nice stuff and this furniture looks of good quality and looks great in my new home. I would recommend this place they have great customer service and have great prices. read more

I own a rental house in Chico, but I live in Los Angeles. I was in Chico recently to prepare a bedroom for a tenant coming from Europe, and I needed to purchase a mattress set. I didn't have much time to shop as I was there only a couple days, so I went to Holbrook's which is 4 blocks from my house. I told the salesman that I wanted to purchase a Queen size mattress set. He asked me if I wanted used or new and I said new. He showed me 2 0r 3 sets and I picked one for which I paid $544.88 with my credit card. I told him that I needed the mattress delivered early the next day as I would be leaving town by late morning (it was probably a big mistake to tell him that!) Two men delivered the mattress, box spring and the frame on time and after removing the plastics covering the mattress and box spring (which I thought were factory wrapped) they set up the bed in the bedroom. They did not ask me to sign any document to agree that each piece was in good condition and they left very quickly. After they left I lay on the mattress and immediately felt that there was an indentation in the center as if someone had slept on this bed. I got up and started taking a close look at the sides of the mattress.........It was disgusting!!!! Stains, dirt all around the mattress! I looked at the box spring which was also stained and had two tags indicating that it had been pre-owned and sanitized. The mattress had no such tags at all and was clearly a very used, non-sanitized mattress!!!! Since the delivery men had left my house no more than 10 minutes earlier, I called the store and asked the person who answered, named Jim, to have the men come back immediately to pick up the mattress set as they had delivered a used set. Jim said that they couldn't come back because they were on their way to another delivery out of town, and didn't have a cell phone to be contacted (that was a lie because they had called me from the truck to verify my address). Jim said that they would pick up the set at the end of the day and that I could go to the store and pick a new mattress. After hanging up the phone, I went back to take an even closer look at the set and to take photographs. I became even more disgusted by it's condition and the fact that Holbrook's had delivered such a piece of crap. I was afraid that it might have bedbugs in it!!!! I decided that I didn't want to do business with that company and called back to cancel the order and ask for a refund on my credit card. Jim refused, saying that they only give store credit. I called my credit card company and they are doing an investigation. I also called my attorney who has sent them a letter. I still have no reply from them. I have called the State of California's Department of Consumer Affairs and I am in the process of filing a complaint with them. I will call the Better Business Bureau and the local newspaper. I have amazing photographs of the merchandise they delivered to my house. If I have to I will take them to small claims court and will have plenty of support from people who have had very similar experience with Holbrook's. These people are crooks and should not be in business. I don't want any of their merchandise. Anyone who has had a bad experience with this company is welcome to contact me at through Yelp if there is a way to do so. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE- THE WORST EVER I went into Holbrook's after seeing their store online. I'm a 20 year old college student and I went in alone. Next time I will know better. I've never bought my own furniture before and I was hoping to get one ASAP because I had been sleeping on a futon in my apartment. I purchased a dresser, head board/foot board and a mattress and box spring. Decent quality, all wood, a few dings and poorly glued dresser legs, but not too bad. The guys seemed helpful at the time. Although they offer same day delivery, I had to wait two days. It was understandable seeing as they were having a sale, so I assumed they had a lot of deliveries. Two days later, my furniture arrives, and the nice delivery drivers assembled it how I asked. BUT, the box spring did not fit in the bed frame. The men went back to get a smaller box spring and it again didn't fit. I was told that they would call me the next day by 3pm to deliver one that fit. I received no call so I called back and the call was passed to three different men, the last telling me to call back the next day. I call back the next day and they told me they didn't get one in to fit and that the company who delivers them didn't bring it, but that they would get one in in the next couple of weeks. I had to leave Chico back home to SoCal and came back yesterday. I gave them a few days advanced noticed hoping to get my box spring when I arrived. My call was passed around again and again and I was told to call back today 8-2-12 & they would deliver it. That is when I decided to check Yelp for reviews and noticed one that stated they received a used/sanitized mattress. My mom checked my mattress and there was a sticker USED/SANITIZED. Furious, we went down to a different mattress store to ask them about it and they had signs on theirs that clearly state if it was pre-owned. The man at that store said those are from the 30 day trials. I was led to believe at Holbrook's that this mattress was BRAND NEW. We went to Holbrook's and talked to a heavy set man who was very rude. When we tried to describe what was wrong with the bed we were interrupted after every single word. He then shouted, "Are you even listening to what I am saying?!" Extremely rude. He told us that the mattress was from out of state and that anything from out of state is ripped apart, sanitized and put back together ('just like produce over state lines'.???) He said the manager Jim wasn't there and would be back in the next 20 minutes. As for the box spring not fitting, he said they would get me a new one but it would take 2 weeks and in all of their 29 years, a bed hasn't been made so narrow. So I decided to call the Sacramento Valley Mattress company (where the Used/sanitized sticker was from) and the woman on the phone told me that there was no such rule about out of state mattresses and it meant that the spring was used but the fabric was new. We went back to Holbrook's and I asked Jim and the man I spoke to previously if every single part of this mattress was new, including the spring. Both said yes and again fed the bulls-- that it was out of state. I told them what I had been told and Jim the manager told me "You don't know what you are talking about, I talk to them every day" RUDE AGAIN. Then Jim proceeded to tell me my bed was perfectly fine and that the delivery men were a bunch of 'stupid idiots' over and over and they don't know how to put beds together.(WHY DID YOU HIRE THEM THEN?) I told him that the man sitting next to him, and everybody I talked to told me that the bed was made too narrow. He yelled "Don't bring him up, You're talking to me!" They refused a refund which I understand because it was on their receipt. Two new delivery men came about 15 minutes later and delivered a new box spring that barely fit (thankfully). Basically, I was fed countless lies, met with extreme hostility and men who don't know how to run a business. You cater to the customer. The only good men working for this company are those 'stupid idiot delivery men" who were nice and helpful. As for Jim and the other guy, total a-holes who were raised to be idiots. They took advantage of a customer in the market to spend a pretty penny. If my bad experience at this crappy establishment can stop you from going there, I'll feel as if some good has come from this. read more

Bought a bed from there in 2007 and could not be happier. Here is the deal: You walk in, it is a clearance center, so it doesn't look as fancy as other furniture stores...BUT, the prices are off-the-wall crazy! I wanted a new bed so I went through the showroom floor and found me a full-size that was only $249...not only that, but it was a soft-mattress top on both sides (so you can flip it over and use the other side once it wears out). I ordered the bed, paid for it, and was told it would be delivered within a few days. However, I received a phone call on the delivery day saying that they accidentally sold the model I chose to another person and would have one available in about 5 days. I was not happy with this, obviously, so they offered for me to come in and pick another bed...this time, I picked a Sealy full-size pillow top bed that was being sold there at $349, but that I had seen at other retailers a year before (again, *clearance* item) for over $599. They had it delivered to me within 10 minutes of my choosing, and here I am, 3 years later still laying on the bed as I write this review on Yelp. Every person that has come over to my house and sat, laid, or slept in my bed has complimented as to how comfortable it is and although I am looking to upgrade to a Queen or King in the near future, I cannot get myself to rid this bed - not only for the memories it has provided over my college years *grin*, but the comfort as well. Just got off the phone with Tim ( manager) he informed me that they do not price match the same exact items. Few weeks ago we purchased a few items from Jenny at the Sleep Brokers over off skyway close to park. We got a quote from her on two end tables from the Coasters furniture catalog. End tables item # 701077 cost from sleep brokers was $105 per table and $135 from Tim at holbrooks. Of course running a business is their own priority and we can all respect that. Took my aunt to the Chico location to purchase some furniture, she was looking for a sofa/loveseat/chair set. Walked in there were three guys standing around. Not one of them acknowledged us, they did look at us and continued to fart around. Still looking around and still no acknowledgement from the three guys working there. So I say to my aunt loud enough for the guy at the front desk area to hear me that we should go somewhere else and spend money since they didn't have the common courtesy to even acknowledge us, who wants to spend money where they do not feel welcome. I have bought two mattresses from this place. No thanks kiss my ass nothing. No greeting, and even when paying there isn't eye contact ever. Just so damn rude! Second mattress was wet and moldy as I went to unload it. Drove back over and they exchanged it for a "non" moldy one. All I really feel about this place is their mattresses are not all new... and when I tuck my son in at night I wonder where the hell the mattress he is sleeping on came from.
