Holcomb Tree Service has been nothing but great to my family. As a mother, I'm always trying to find the safest and best solutions for my kids. My son rides his bike to get to the bus stop, and because it's a pretty far walk, I asked the office if he could leave his bike near their building during the day so it wouldn't get stolen. They agreed without hesitation. Not only did they allow him to keep his bike there, but the employees have always been kind and respectful to my son. They've even put air in his bike tires for him. That may seem small to some people, but it meant a lot to us. I know they didn't have to help us, and some businesses may see something like that as a liability or inconvenience, but they chose kindness and integrity instead. This review may not be directly about the tree services they offer, but it says a lot about the type of people they are. BAIT AND SWITCH! They sent a rep out to do an estimate. He was courteous and thorough. He provided a detailed plan/scope of work and we agreed on what I considered a fair price. For the work described. When the crew showed up, it was as if they hadn't read the plan, or just chose to ignore it. The sullen, lazy workers did virtually nothing, and the arrogant crew chief kept gaslighting me about things I needed done: all of which had been included in initial plan/estimate. They left a mess from what little work they did -- badly. And I was charged what I consider an exorbitant price for next to nothing done. I had to badgert them to at LEAST do the main task: taking down a branch that was hanging over an electrical line. I will never use this service again. Called a different company to basically come in and do the job crummy Holcomb should have done last spring. Buyer beware! read more

I've used Holcomb for 25ish years. Tree trimming and fertilization each year. We have beautiful old trees that require some extra care to keep them nice and also trimmed to keep our neighbors happy and safe. Holcomb is not a discount tree service and will not do stupid things even if you want them to. I've tried. I always get good advice so my trees are maintained properly. I like the new system ahead of the fertilization so you can see costs and confirm what areas are being treated. Each year this company gets better. I think they've been around 65+ years. read more

Holcomb Tree Service did an amazing job trimming our 60 year old Live Oak trees! They successfully trimmed the branches without butchering the tree. Our flower gardens and lawn now receive an adequate amount of sunlight. The crew also cleaned up after themselves very well too. I will use Holcomb Tree Service again in the future when needed. read more

Holcomb Tree Service has been around for a number of years and must have thousands of satisfied customers.... however, I'm not one of them. The process start to finish was pathetic. I live in an older house and my electrical service is above ground and they told me I did not have to have it disconnected. Then on the morning they arrived they changed their mind. They did make the call for me but it delayed them being able to complete the job in one day. The electric company also disconnected my cable tv line, so I had no television. The next day from work.I called their office to ask if they crew had returned to finish. I was told they would contact the crew then return my call. This never happened. I arrived at home to find no one had come back, my yard a mess and my television still disconnected. I called the office and left 2 messages. At 7am the next morning, I received a voice mail stating that the crew would return, which they did. The finished the job on the 3rd day and left the yard in decent shape. However, they would not re-connect the cable tv, telling me it was my responsibility. I again called their office and spoke to Ed Phillips who told me to do it myself. Since the power had been disconnected by Garland Power and Light, I called them to see if they would re-connect it and they refused. Finally, I called Time Warner and they set an appointment to have it reconnected the next day. Therefore, I had no television for almost 4 days. Holcomb did not treat me courteously, did not return my call after promising they would, took 2 days too long to complete the job and gave me the runaround regarding my cable tv. I would not recommend or use this company again. read more

My experience with Holcomb over the years has been terrific. The arborist comes out and we discuss our yearly trimming. As we walk the property I always learn something. There is so much that can effect trees' health and growth and the Holcomb folks are most willing to share info. When the crew comes out they are always so professional, they know what to do and clean up is top notch. After the trimming, it looks natural. After the June 2019 storm, I thought we would loose a large elm tree due to the strong wind gusts, but they had a solution to repair the damage and that tree is doing wonderfully. As some of our trees have matured, they have experienced some issues. Holcomb has remedied poor soil and drainage and the trees are much happier. Will was the crew chief. They were excellent. Very efficient. Were OK with questions and suggestions. Plus, the price was reasonable. These are the good guys! read more

I used Holcomb to assist with a medium-sized branch that had broken and was at risk of falling. The admin who answered my call said that a crew was already in my neighborhood so it was possibly to coordinate same-day service. The branch was cut at the fence line and fell to the ground with the whole process lasting 15 minutes. I received a bill for $600 for "Trees - back yard: remove broken limb". When I called to better understand the bill, I was told that the price was originally $725 but the admin lowered it before sending it to me. She claimed they had the crew working nearby pulled off that job to come to my house and then paid them overtime when they returned to finish the other job, so my bill was covering all of that disruption. I never consented to pay for another job's overtime. The entire process lacked transparency and the price was unreasonable for 15 minutes of straightforward tree branch removal. Arborilogical Services in Wylie, TX quoted $1200 for my entire property. If you care about your money and its value, do not use Holcomb. read more

We had used Holcomb Tree Service for 4 years with the pruning of multiple trees on our property. We had been pleased with their service. We had a large Live Oak in front that was growing faster than we wanted and Jason suggested using Cambistat on the root system to slow down the growth. We had this service done in March 2019. In April as our grass started greening up, we noticed the area of grass below the treated tree was not growing as the other grass in our yard. I contacted Jason about this. After he came by and viewed (without me knowing) and my repeated attempts to get an answer to a solution for the grass issue, he and the owner told me this was not due to the Cambistat runoff. It's very obvious that the perfect line running from the tree to the sidewalk was not a disease and we confirmed with a grass company. It was a pretty simple fix that Holcomb Tree Service could have remedied. Jason insisted they did not cause this and it wasn't their error. Instead of admitting this was the issue, they didn't care to keep our business after 4 years of spending thousands with them on pruning. So disappointing. It's more about honesty. We dug up the grass, replaced about 3 inches of soil and placed a couple of strips of new sod. It's fine now. Jason was rude and defensive throughout our conversations regarding this. read more

Used Holcomb Tree service on two occasions. First time i had to get a large pecan tree removed from my back yard (spring 2010). I had over 7 estimates from different places and Holcomb was by far the very cheapest, which also included the stump to be grounded and the tree was also near power lines. Even a very good landscaper friend of mine couldn't come close to a price this affordable. Even though they were the cheapest, they were still very professional and the workers knew what they were doing. and actually when i had my stump grounded, a line to my sprinkler system had got grounded too. They were able to send someone that week to fix it and to ensure it was working as it should. after that i was sold on Holcomb! and used them to prune two very large live oak trees and cut down a crape myrtle.. and still very pleased with their work and prices. read more

Several years ago I had a very large limb fall after a storm. It landed on a wire and partially across my neighbor's fence. I called Holcomb to come out for an estimate to remove it. After getting the estimate, I figured I'd do the work myself. I managed to get most of the limb cut up and moved to my back porch. A few days later I come home to find the cut up limb removed and there's a bill from Holcomb taped to my front door. The bill was for the full price of the estimate! I immediately called them and explained that I never authorized them to remove the limb and pointed out that I was the one who moved it from the fence/wire and cut it up. They dismissed the bill. Several years later I called them once again. Same tree... I just needed some branches trimmed. I thought we had agreed on which branches to remove but when they finished there was still one branch hanging over my roof that I'm certain I had asked them to take. The job was around ($800). They sent a guy out and told me he would take the branch for another $130. I told him no thanks. Again, I come home a few days later and the branch is gone with a bill for $130 taped to my door. Again, I call them up and explain the situation and once again they dismiss the bill. While Holcomb does good work, my advice would be to make sure you are very clear in what work you want done and what work you don't want done. It just made me feel like they probably do this often and most people just pay them. read more

I have used Holcomb on and off for years but for the past 5 years, the service has just gotten terrible. They are expensive, and I usually have to have them return back to do additional trimming since they neglected to thin out the tree properly. This time, again they didn't thin out the tree and didn't even trim our other smaller trees which were included on the quote we received. I called to complain and they said they would call me to schedule another appointment. They never called to set up an appointment...they just showed up one morning to finish the job. I called the manager to complain and had to leave a VM for him and he has yet to call me back. I'm taking my business and money somewhere else in the future! read more

Incompetent tree trimmers don't watch were branches fall almost hit truck coming out of drive. Didn't even mention breaking a window even though they had to pull branch out of. Wouldn't even recommend to an enemy. read more

My neighbor (duplex townhouse on same lot) hired them to trim trees and I called them to see if they could "bundle" her project and mine to trim some small branches on 2 maple trees in front of my home the same day they were scheduled to do her more extensive trimming. They called several days prior and told me they had some other cancellation, and would be at my home only to trim 2 maple trees. They charged $443 for some very simple work, all branches trimmed without ladders or special equipment. They informed me that one of my trees might be diseased and they would come back to "airspade" and "deep root fertilize" - they performed these services on the almost dead tree and the healthy tree and charged me $760, and then ended up removing the dead tree. I would not hire them again, as they ignored my original request to perform both my trimming and my neighbor's together. You need to be present for all work they do. You need to watch exactly what they do. read more
