Another fine dining experience at the Hole in One. As usual the service was excellent. We always start with the Artichoke dip and it is so good. My wife had the salmon with red skinned potatoes and corn pudding. I had the meatloaf with macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes. Both entrees were delicious. I've been in here twice in the last year. Once was 5 stars plus and the other time was a 2 star experience. I definitely will go back and give them a shot at redemption. Had the ribeye both times. Every once and a while we stop by to eat here. This time was because the places we wanted to go were closed. We arrived when they opened the doors and we were promptly seated. Food: The food was good overall. The steak was good not great, not over seasoned and cooked to the correct temp. The Green beans were meh, but the brown butter brussel sprouts absolutely rocked. I could have just eaten a plate of them. My wife had the shrimp and grits. There were good not great. The salads they served had way too much salad dressing. I suggest putting it in a ramekin for the customer to put on the salad themselves. Atmosphere: The overhead can light seemed a bit bright and took away from the relaxed atmosphere they try to portray. While we were waiting on our dinner we were entertained by one of the workers trying to remove a balloon from the ceiling from a previous seating. The broken windows that could be observed as we came in, took away the feel of the place. Service: The server was attentive and cordial and we appreciate the attention to detail. She took care of our needs gave us space when needed but paid attention to our potential needs. Since we have been here before we had some expectations and I feel they they are not the same as they once were. I don't think they are bad at all and I encourage people to stop by. I wanted Hole In One's Gumbo more than a crackhead needed a fix. I had been in Texas for 4 days and I'd been chased by a hurricane, learned that recharge stations for Tesla Electric Car rentals were scarce, and that my go-to hotel in Lufkin had burned down. The only thing that could set things right was that awesome gumbo. That's particularly high praise since I live in California and have only started attending family reunions nearby for the past three summers and a few ad hoc visits. I discovered Hole in One across from my hotel on my very first trip to Texas. I was in E. Texas to attend my family's annual reunion and meet the relatives I'd found through Ancestry DNA. Alone, anxious, and learning profound family and American history I found comfort in the excellent food and customer service here. Plus, it was a nice respite from the less...epicurean choices nearby. The menu is creative and well-executed. Everything is delicious especially the surprisingly creative takes on standards. The Chef takes pride in his kitchen and menu and is a delight, as are the servers/bartenders. And the lead server/maitre'D's dry humor is so funny that you don't want to sip anything while he talks. #spittake Overall great spot. WOW!! Great steak and staff was friendly and very helpful.. I ordered the ribeye, medium rare and it came out perfect. It was well seasoned but not over seasoned. It also came with two sides and a salad. I got the asparagus and brussels sprouts and they were delicious. I had a glass of the educated guess Cabernet Savignon, which paired perfectly with my dinner. As I was typing this review from my car in the parking lot, the server came out to hand me my credit card, which I had accidentally left at the table. See what I mean? Wow! We decided to make a day trip to just get away. Stopped in Lufkin for the night and this little gem was right by our hotel. Decent wine list, full bar and white tablecloths. This is a great local stop for an evening. Egg rolls for an appetizer that was crispy and hot. Dipping sauce was great. I had the chicken fried steak and the tequila cream sauce was a welcome change to the usual cream gravy. My date ordered the pork chop and I was impressed. Side salad was not your usual clump of iceberg lettuce but rather a nice mix of greens. Croissant bread pudding was excellent. Definitely need to stop in here for a great meal. read more

I admit, I was hesitant because of the location. I mean, how many times do you find a restaurant of this magnitude inside a Quality Inn? For the record, this restaurant is inside the Quality Inn but is not affiliated with it in any way. With that being said, it was very good. Actually, it was very, very good. As far as the taste of the food goes, it is one of my absolute favorite restaurants in all of the Lufkin area. I ordered the pork chop with a side of green beans, mashed potatoes and a salad w blue cheese dressing. All of it was divine. The green beans tasted like they were done in a olive oil and butter sauce. The mashed potatoes were very creamy. The pork chop was topped with their own special sauce that added great flavor to it. I hesitate to compare their pork chop to Perry's in Houston simply because it's different. It is uniquely its own. I posted a picture of my meal. They do have a full bar. If you are staying at one of the area hotels, it is within walking distance of the Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, Comfort Suites, and obviously, the Quality Inn. It is a short drive south on Hwy 59 from The Courtyard (about a mile). The bartender stated that only about 30% of their business is from travelers. If 70% of their business is locals and it's in an inexpensive brand hotel, it must be good. Don't let the location fool you. The taste of this food could easily be located in a top tier hotel. You owe it to yourself to try Hole In One. Tip: They have a private room if you need to entertain clients. It is large and would easily seat 30+ people. The food is always good, I eat here mostly with business friends, as they are open for dinner (after 5:00 PM) and my wife and I go out for late lunch or early dinner. Service is super, the staff is friendly and professional. Ambiance is very nice, for a quite date it is the best. For a business meal, no better place in town. The steaks are really good. I not a fan of the their basic salad, so I order the Gumbo that is very good. Their appetizers are fantastic. read more

Let's start by saying the people and "Lucky" are absolutely perfect hosts by any means. Upon conversation, and a perfectly made cocktail, the suggestion of the nights dinner was discussed. Starting with a cup of precisely and tastefully seasoned Gumbo we began our journey. This decision absolutely did not disappoint. The Rue was on point! Hole-in-One is a diamond in the rough in Lufkin which is overloaded with chain restaurants. I should mention it's more analogous to a low carat yellowish-brown diamond, but a diamond nonetheless. Our party of 4 started by sharing fried oyster nachos and crabcakes. The nachos were quite good and I'd order them again. The "wonton chip" stood out above the oysters. The crabcakes were high-quality with very little detectable filler but the sauce was overwhelming and unnecessary. I recommend ordering the sauce on the side. For my entrée, I chose Chicken Marsala as our waitress recommended. The chicken was well-prepared but I ran into more sauce problems here. It was oily and mixed into my side dishes. I tried building a bread dam to keep my side dishes clean, but it wouldn't hold against the sauce. The sauteed spinach was nothing remarkable but the whipped potatoes reminded me of my mom's which is a good thing! My wife ordered a big old bowl of gumbo for her main course. I think the size she got is larger than the actual "bowl" on the menu but I'm not sure if we paid more. I like my roux pretty dark and this gumbo's was light brown. Served with stale crackers, it was a big meh for me. The dining room was really busy on a Thursday night, so make reservations. Hole-in-One sits inside of a Quality Inn and there are a bunch of other hotels around. Overall, I thought it was a good meal but they need to replace their giant sauce ladle with a modestly sized spoon. read more

We hit this spot whenever we're in town for business and always have a good time. Typically order the chicken fried tuna entree as an app just for the novelty of it, but it's actually pretty tasty! Chicken marsala for me which was prepared well with a side of wild grain rice and steamed broccoli - two chix breasts, so more than enough for a single meal. Dinner mates were happy with theirs as well and the libations were flowing. We waited a long time for our order and the waitress struggled to open a bottle of wine and served water glass size portions. She needs some training. I had chicken parmesan. Not very good. The chief needs to review a few receipts! The chicken breast was not sliced and breaded. The result was a tough dry breast. It was ok but could have been a lot better. I would recommend to never, ever, go to this place. I went to this restaurant back in 2015 and ordered a pork chop with mustard sauce. I ate this for dinner and about two hours later I was almost dying and begging someone to call 911. This place is very quaint. It is an upscale family owned business that has nice atmosphere, great food, a bar, and excellent service. I had the Mahi Mahi, sautéed green beans, mashed sweet potatoes (which were exceptionally good) and the dinner salad that came with it. Everything was really good. The dinner salad was just arugula thrown on a plate, and it was mostly stems so a little underwhelming, but their dressings were good. I would definitely recommend and plan on going back when I drive to Lufkin. It's a 1 hr drive one way for us though. read more

Attractive place and more high end than you'd expect in a Quality Inn. We were waited on promptly and had continued attention throughout. We ordered an appetizer dinner with the pork/shrimp egg rolls, black bean hummus, and a bowl of gumbo. All were good. The bean dip was very unusual. I never would have thought to mix tahini with black beans but this is a great combo. The eggrolls are full of meat - not chintzy on the protein at all - and flavorful. The gumbo is cajun style with a very dark roux. I personally prefer a slightly lighter roux in flavor, but this was well prepared and it was a large bowl. It was also packed with chicken and sausage, not shy on meat at all. I'd return. By the way, the Quality Inn is a pretty good deal for$50, too. Nice room for the price. read more

The food was good not spectacular but pretty good for the location. The reason I'm giving 2 stars is because my boyfriend and I were treated as customers who would not tip well since we were young and college looking. I knew the prices of the restaurant and knew I would tip well no matter what. Here's the thing, our server already made up his mind when we sat down that we wouldn't tip well. 10 minutes after we were sat and had drink orders, an older, nicer looking couple sat down beside our table and was promptly served and brought out the bread before us. The server then ignored us most of the night doing bare minimum service as he waited hand and foot on the table next to us. I know this behavior since I've been a server while in college and I've seen terrible servers do this to others. It's rude and a reflection of the restaurant training and the person serving us. I won't be coming back for this reason. The food wasn't enough to make the experience amazing. I'd rather try Manhattan instead. read more

This place is pretty darned awesome. You might not expect much given the location attached to a Quality Inn, but Hole In One really puts out some awesome cuisine. I have been coming here for years. The egg role appetizer is quite delicious. But honestly, I come for the chicken marsala and the asparagus. The chicken marsala is made fresh with pecans. It is always perfect. And I always try to eat all of it and make myself miserable. The product is always fresh. I love asparagus and Hole in One never disappoints. The asparagus is always cooked perfectly, never over cooked or raw. Now the salad is also worth mentioning. I love their Caesar salad personally. So delicious. They have a fabulous beer selection. I drink blue moon. And they serve it with orange juice which is hands better than orange slices. The service is always superior. Locally owned and has a real chef.
