Holey Toledough parked up at Owens for a morning and it couldn't have been a better day. These donuts are no joke. Wherever the truck may be, I'm sure you can just follow the fresh dough smell and you could find it. The truck is bright and fun, and the donuts are fresh and delicious. I tried the pecan French toast and it was warm and melted right in my mouth. Topped with powdered sugar. YUM! Costumer service was fine, nothing over the top, but it's a food truck and there was a long line of hungry students and faculty. The donut was prepared right as I ordered. I want to give more stars, but I just can't. I'm a huge fan of local food and I'm willing to pay a premium for high-quality, local cuisine. However, I really want some value-added for the extra $. With that being said, I simply can't justify paying $3 per donut for an average tasting donut. $3 per donut is obscene! For that price, I would expect the best donuts I've ever tasted. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. The donuts are not bad, but not worth the price in my opinion. You can get a dozen, freshly-made donuts from Cafe Donuts for $8. Stopped in on Thursday at the new location on Alexis and was not disappointed. These are the best doughnuts in Toledo, hands down. WOW! I can't say enough good things! My partner and I have been following Holey Toledough on their facebook page just waiting for a chance to go fork over a few dollars to try their sweet dough and cream filled creations! Today we had that chance...Holey Toledough was at a small trade show in Point Place.....We were the first inline and first cash paying customers...that's how excited we were....We ended up buying two (2) of every flavor which were Vanilla bean S'mores,Fluffer nutter,Berries n cream,Maple bacon and Raspberry ganache...I have only tried a few of the flavors but each one I try I fall in love all over with this NEW TOLEDO CREATION!!! The only reason I haven't given them a full 5 star review yet is because I am waiting to try all the flavors! My partner was a bit disappointed this morning not being able to buy one of their apple fritter's but I think we will be back tomorrow to buy and try one of those! These donuts are fantastic. The owners are always pushing the envelope with new flavors and concepts. Never does a week go by when I don't see a donut that makes me want to rush out and buy one (or a dozen). Not every flavor is my favorite nor are they the cheapest, but I appreciate the ingenuity, the craft, and the solid work that goes in to making each donut delicious and pretty. I buy mine most often at the Toledo Farmer's Market on Saturday and at the food truck lineup on Thursdays. I really love this place but my recent stops in for an assorted dozen has been mediocre. The first time I stopped at the Mac and Melt location in Perrysburg were great; there was a huge variety. This past week I went and there was only 4 doughnuts and two were vegan. I simply don't get the hype. The one I tried ( some kind of blueberry glazed) was artificial tasting with rock hard large candies on it. Coworkers were warning others not to break a tooth. The doughnuts are great but he cut a lot of doughnut flavors out down to only a few witch are meh. Not worth the money. Most are plain donuts with fancy toppings. If you get distracted by fancy toppings and don't care about the donut itself, eat here. Had the maple bacon and cookies and cream, both were bordering on the stale side. I could have gotten a fresher donut at Krogers. The cookies and cream didn't even have cream, just icing. Add in the exorbitant price and this place isn't close to worth it but when you're the only game in town I guess it works. I thought I would give it a try given the lack of unique donut options in the area and since the coffee was supposed to be good at the Black Kite Coffee. Reviews seemed to range from low to high, and I have to agree with the lows. The coffee and the donuts were okay and perhaps I expect a lot coming in comparison to donut meccas like NYC. Price was fine given what I've paid out east but passing regular donuts off as gourmet was sad. They were basic donuts with just toppings on them. I ended up with the maple-bacon donut, and it had absolutely no maple taste whatsoever. It was basically sugary-glazed with bacon crumbles on top. Some of these bad reviews seem like they are complaining about Black Kite and not Holey Toledough donuts. Black Kite is a coffee house that sells the donuts and if these reviewer have an issue with black kite they should be addressing them in the review of the Black Kite shop. These are the best donuts I've ever had. I've never been to Black Kite but have bought them at the Farmer's Market, downtown when they've had a table during the food truck days and am very happy to see them at Bleak House. My only complaints are: 1. the price. $3 for a donut is steep so I buy one for myself as a treat when I am at a place that has them. Certainly not the kind of money I would spend if I want to treat my office to donuts on a Friday morning, but these are great donuts and you get what you pay for. The other complaint is they are hard to find. A lot of times they are sold out of individual donuts at the Farmers Market on Saturday and they are only at Bleak House certain days and they sell out of them fast. I like the unique flavors. After reading all the hype about these donuts and seeing the many 5 star ratings on facebook, I had to try one of these donuts. Plus I make an effort to support small and local businesses. I was very disappointed. The people of Toledo must have never had a good donut and at $2.50 each or $28 a dozen their pricing is absolutely absurd, such a ripoff for the lack of size and quality of the donut. The first thing that was irritating was I went to the Toledo Farmers Market looking for their donuts because they had that location listed on their website. They were not there. Second, the dough of their donuts is of average supermarket quality. The Boston Cream donut only had one bite of "okay" tasting cream in the center. The jelly and vanilla icing on the Jelly donut had an awesome taste, I could eat the jelly by the spoonful, but again the dough is just "eh" (I got these donuts at BREW). I am not from Toledo or even Ohio. I have travelled many places and have tried a lot of donuts, I have had way better quality and better tasting donuts for a way better price. Don't waste your money on these just okay, supermarket quality donuts. *Edit* the owner and maker of the donuts offered me a free dozen donuts because he stated he forgot ingredients in his donuts and even though they tasted off he still decided to sell them. This is an awful mistake, it makes the owner seem that he doesn't care about the quality and he is inept and can't follow his own recipe that he makes every week. He also claimed that is he is the only place in Toledo that uses eggs, flour, and milk. What do other donut makers use, sand?? However I decided to give the donuts another try. My kids and I happened to see the food truck when we were out shopping one day. I decided to give them a treat and we would try out the donuts. I was happily surprised to taste how wonderful these Donuts were. Many donuts nowadays that you buy in the store are pre-baked and I just finished in the store. Other Donuts from donut store are made fresh there however normally they're not warm when you eat them still. These Donuts were so fresh that they were still warm. I love to support to local businesses and I wish that I could write a glowing review about this one. Unfortunately, I can't. See, I pride myself paying for exceptional food and $3 per doughnut didn't strike me as far out there because I've paid that much before without blinking an eye. However, the doughnut that I paid $3 for, was exceptional and huge. The doughnuts at Holey Toledough were small and average. I had the Egg Nog and the Orange Cranberry fritter. Neither choice tickled my fancy, but I so wanted them to. The Egg Nog tasted like your average doughnut with an Egg Nog cream in the hole and fritter was just okay. I was so excited after seeing all of the donut-porn from my friends and local blogs I follow to try a Holey Toledough Doughnut. I spent $3 on a single doughnut (which was the cheapest one) and I was do disappointed. It looked fabulous, but the taste was so average, they honestly were the same quality of what you would get at Kroger or Meijer. If you're jonesing for some donuts, go to Haas Bakery in Oregon or Mama C's in Maumee. You'll get the best donut of your life and you won't spend more than 90 cents for one. read more

My very first experience with Holey Toledough was at the farmer's market; the truck was there however they were not selling doughnuts. The account said 9-1 they would be selling and we were there at 1130. My next experience was when I went to Mac n Melts to place an order for Bridal Shower 3 weeks out. I was told they had nothing to do with Holey Toledough itself so, they gave me Chris' number. I called Chris and he did not answer and his voicemail box had not been set up yet. I messaged the Holey Toledough page on instagram with no response. I called Chris back and he told me to place my order online. I went to the website and it was down. I sent another message on instagram. No response. So I commented on a post asking them to please check their messages. Again, no response. I still have yet to have anyone contact me in regards to my order. I placed my order elsewhere with such ease! I have had the worst experience with this company! I placed an order 5 days ago on their website for pickup today. I went to pick them up at a shop and no donuts! They were guaranteed to be at the location at time of opening (which is around 8). When I arrived at 9:30, they weren't there. After calling the owner and leaving a message, he followed up with an email saying they wouldn't be done today. I am rather upset because I paid ahead of time for them and was taking them to an important event around noon today. At the location of pickup (not their specific place since they don't have their own storefront), they said this has happened many times before! The last minute (or shall I say late) communication is very unprofessional and a poor way to run a business. In addition, I expected to have donuts, especially when they $28 a dozen. I definetly do not recommend doing business with this company if you are expecting your order to be filled on time. I am very disappointed!
