This was my first time stopping into Holy Toledough after trying pretty much every local place I could in the past 4 years living here and this place is my new favorite. I got a dozen to try and taste test, and as someone who typically says the traditional donut route and does not venture out much, this place offered lots of new donut combos I've never tried before. It's a smaller shop with no seating area on the inside so be prepared for grab and go. The prices are high for donuts in my opinion but you also are paying for much more then your typical donut and decorations. The donuts tasted good as well as looked very cool. I'm a traditional donut girl but it was very cool to try a place like this with lots of combinations. The staff was kind and very friendly and I appreciated getting to chat with them a bit more. read more

I was looking at places around Toledo for something *Unique* and I found Holey Toledough places like this are always hit or miss if you ask me. The staff was very helpful and he knew the best sellers and recommended what he liked the most from the best seller, etc. I see people complaining about certain little things ... listen if you don't like pricey donuts that have better quality than say Krispy Kreme then you are at the wrong place people sorry. I will definitely be going back to Holey Toledough may be a smaller donut shop but it's Great and the donuts aren't made from some massive Corporation! They are more like Art if you ask me. Based on the reviews on Yelp, I decided to check out Holey Toledough to see if they live up to the hype. A very small shop with a walk-up counter and a rack on wheels displaying the selections of the day. I imagine children would get a kick seeing donuts topped with cereal, crumbled cookies, etc. I am not a fan of cake donuts slathered with frosting and other sweets on top. Even the glazed donut was not as airy as anticipated and had a cake-ish donut consistency. So, this will not be my choice when I am hankering for a donut. Sorry. read more

Stopped by as we traveled through and Wiskey and the Wolf is right down the street (best Philly cheesesteak I've ever had!) These donuts were amazing! We stopped in at the last hour of business and there were still donuts to choose from. The cream fillings were shockingly light and the maple cream and pecan French toast were at our top favorites. Delicious, high quality donuts! Holey Toledough served yeast donuts (some reviewers called them 'cake' - they are not!). The donuts are dense & chewy, freshly made, and come with a nice variety of creative flavors with really nice toppers (bacon, nuts, cereals, etc). Their coffee is really delicious too. 3.5 stars First off, great name. Five stars for the pun. Five stars again for the fast, friendly, and flirty service in the brick and mortar store on Alexis. Five stars for many of the donuts. They're fresh, big, and the variety/creativity is first rate. The texture (crispy on the outside, and soft/moist on the inside) is perfect and may be the best part. That said, not every donut is great. The Boston cream I had recently was not good at all. The Boston part was dry. And the cream? What cream? Hardly any. It wasn't worth the calories. I've had other substandard donuts in the past, also. Subtract one star. Price: Holey Shit are these donuts expensive! I don't mind paying more for a high quality, locally made product, but 2.5 to 3 bucks per donut is a little too much. Subtract another star. Overall, I can't complain too much about Holey Toledough. But given the price and the "less than 100 percent" quality rating, I'm stuck giving them "3ish" stars. read more

If you're in the mood for an overpriced specialty donut that you wish was bigger this is the place for you. I've had their donuts on a couple of occasions and the yeast variety were delicious. The cake variety though were oily and not appetizing at all. For the price it's more of a try once a year type place in my opinion. A special occasion place if you will. read more

I discovered "Holey Toledough" when I still lived in Toledo and spotted them at the Toledo Farmer's Market. Bacon on a doughnut? Oh my, yes. Similar to other addictions (I would imagine), I started tracking down where I could buy the doughnuts the rest of the week and followed the vendor through progression to finally opening up a doughnut shop. (Congratulations!) Funny enough, I never thought I actually liked doughnuts. Overly sweet, usually a little greasy, the experience if more than a bite or two left me feeling pretty rotten so I just avoided them altogether. These handmade delicacies changed everything (although I generally won't eat any other doughnut except for one shop found at North Market in Columbus, Ohio - or the cinnamon doughnuts at Peace,Love, Donuts - but HT is still my favorite.) Clever names are exceeded by outstanding quality doughnuts, where you realize the name is almost not worthy. These doughnuts are enormous, large enough to share - but you're not going to want to share. Although I could get behind a "two halves are better than one" scenario for sure ... I grew up in Temperance but live in Orlando now. So when I visited town March 19, 2019, I had to try these at their location on Alexis. I've been to handcrafted or made to order doughnut places all over the country, and Toledo area residents should be thrilled with this place. I wish I had them when I lived here. I'm used to spending over $3 or even close to $5 for a speciality donut in some cities. These are either $2 or $2.50, and a half dozen was an even $12. Friendly service too. There was a lot of icing on the chocolate sprinkle and my favorite was the french toast donut. Maple bacon was one of the best I've had. I'm willing to pay $2 for a donut instead of $1 at a place like Dunkin if that means I get a better donut and I help a local business. I read a bad review that said they were upset because they ran out, or one was upset because they went in the afternoon and they were dry. That's the nature of bakeries who produce it all in the morning and aren't made to order. My favorite bakery in Orlando runs out every afternoon even though they close at night, you just have to plan to go early to get the goods. read more

Simply amazing. I grabbed some on way to bring as offering while staying with friends in Michigan. I'm not a doughnut, or sweets person in general, neither is my friend, but was in bringing breakfast and needed something to go along with egg casserole. OMG! Doughnuts took center stage. During Old West End festival weekend, we popped into Black Kite coffee on Collingwood, and picked up a box of Holey Toledough donuts. I got "one of each" and headed home to share with friends for a great weekend brunch treat. We nibbled on all of the different varieties and I have to say some of the flavors are VERY subtle. There was a sriracha option, and while yes... I did faintly taste sriracha, I wanted a bit of heat but it just wasn't there. The maple bacon on the other hand, with actual slices of bacon on top was a slam dunk. In a perfect world, Holey Toledough will open a store front uptown, and I can have a delicious donut every time I visit the city. Seek these out my friends. read more

Wow! Just Wow!!! We are new to the area and heard great things about the donuts. Since we are in a shelter in place we had to order the donuts ahead of time. Our order pick up time was scheduled for 9:15. We arrived hungry and ready to tear into yummy donuts. What we got was an awful experience! When you arrive you are told to call and your order will be brought out to you. When we call the number we are greater with a recording. When we ask one of the "runners" if we could get our donuts, she responded with, "you need to call and we are answering the phone as fast as we can". I love to shop/eat local and loved this place as a treat! but they've proven to be extremely unprofessional. They had a contest for new flavor ideas, I was the first place winner and was never given any of the prizes. I emailed and messaged multiple times with no response or "it's coming soon", that was in JANUARY. i was going through some really rough times and winning that small contest really brought me some happiness, but they still haven't reached out or compensated me for ANYthing, but yet still make a profit off of a flavor i helped create. I'm calling it as I see it. Average. I tried one of these today for the first time. It looked delicious, smelled great and was $3 for a single doughnut. More than I'd ever paid for a single doughnut before, but I'd heard great things so I wanted to try it. The first three bites were very doughy, with not a lot of other flavor. I was disappointed. The second half was much better after I got to the portion where it was frosted and had the toppings. That portion was among the best doughnuts I've ever had. Factoring in the price, and that at least half the doughnut was nothing more than average, I'm calling this a high three stars. If I were to ever try it again, I might upgrade to 4 if I like a different flavor more or something. Not saying I won't go again, in fact I probably will. It's just not a priority. read more

I wanted to try out Holey Toledough 1) because it's a great pun and 2) because I've heard other people rave about it. I got there around 10 am on a Saturday and while I didn't expect them to still be cranking out fresh donuts furiously since they're a small shop, I still expected the donuts that they would give me would taste fresh. They did not. They were very run of the mill donuts that gave me the impression that they had been sitting out for too long. Yeah I get the flavors are "unique" but let's get real - it's unique for Toledo. Every other city already has the specialty donuts and they do it better. Also don't bother with the coffee here because it has also been sitting and they just hand you a cup to fill up your own coffee. The creamer are those single serve cups you can buy anywhere but the ones they had were chunky on the inside aka bad news. read more
