Bed Bug
La Shay B.

Made reservations here for a wedding and seems like it would be a nice hotel until you run across or rather until something runs across you. Bed bugs! Bed bugs! Bed bugs! Walking right across the bed openly. Staff was gracious about it. Sent a maintenance guy to the room, who was very unsurprised at the sight of the bed bug. Seemed like he was use to seeing this regularly. Staff offered to move my son and I to a different floor and the breakfast buffet. No thank you. Couldn't get out of there fast enough.

Bed is comfortable. Staff are friendly. Eric at the bar is a must to say hello. His the BEST! Tell him to make an old fashioned drink. He does his magic! Lynette from the front desk is always kind and very welcoming. The only thing is the water pressure at the bathroom is weak. It could be better. Thank you so much for the great customer service. The suite room is perfectly with fam or friends. Food is good. They have indoor pool & gym.

I used Expedia to book this room. I stayed here to attend a women's retreat that took place on property. Service was okay, although the front desk worker initially assigned me a room that was not made up. I had to go back to the lobby (carrying my bags) to get a new room. I booked a room with a King-size bed. I was disappointed that that particular room didn't have a refrigerator and microwave while others did. I had to use a friend's fridge who was staying down the hall from me, which was a little inconvenient. Also, the outlets on the nightstand lamps were not working. The room was fairly clean. One of my pillows smelled like someone's shampoo/hair product, which lead me to believe not all the pillowcases were changed out. Who knows, maybe the sheets weren't changed either - you never can tell! Also, there is a restaurant and bar downstairs. They serve an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet with limited options - eggs, sausage, bacon, potatoes, toast, water, coffee and orange juice. Definitely not worth the $18.95 they charge for breakfast. Honestly, I would recommend eating elsewhere for that price. Overall, I think there is room for improvement at this hotel.

Margarita & nice quiet bar/lounge - I'm sure it's jumping weekends

This tiny reviews for the bar/lounge it had inside. It was a week night, so it was completely dead, but one other patron there talking to the bartender. Small but decent selection of booze & quiet atmosphere with multiple TVs. I'd go back there if we are out here again. They also have a happy hour-cheap drinks:). Ofcourse we went after 7pm when it ended but prices are typical not outrageous.

Breakfast Menu

Disappointing, no mini fridge or microwave in standard rooms unlike Holiday Inn Express but can be delivered for free to room if available. Furniture upholstery and carpet had many stains. Drapes torn and wallpaper peeling. Single mattress on metal platform was hard as a rock, you could feel the inner springs and hear them squeak. The pillows were soft and comfortable. 50 inch television which was nice. Water and sodas are $5 in the lobby. limited breakfast menu, the Bakersfield Breakfast was very good and the service was excellent as was the staff at check-in.

I was called on a business trip and booked my room online. Website was very user friendly, clearly outlined. Used my mobile app to "check in" remotely. Although my visit was short, I found it to be clean, comfortable, and uneventful. I highly recommend this hotel for your "home away from home feeling". The location is the reason that cost the Holiday Inn a start from perfect. I am a single female and I did not feel safe until I walked in. Security presence would be nice for evening check ins.

Ripped rug

Room was non hygenic etal, rug was ripped and very dirty. Pictures explain everything. Going to call holiday inn to appreciate them for giving such a nice room to IHG member. Cockroach in shower Bedseet not changed- had stain

Note we found while reaching for a towel after a shower.

I must say this was my first time actually staying in Bakersfield and I was honestly surprised that…read morethe Marriott was completely booked! Granted it looked like all construction workers because there was nothing else but oversized trucks in their parking lot! My fiancé Googled "clean hotel without bed bugs" and Padre Hotel came up first! Their online reviews were great and we were exhausted and needed to rest! We pulled into their valet parking just to drop off our things. As my fiancé parked the car, across the street in the over night garage, I was able to get a Single King room on a Monday night for $159. As we walked into our room #701, it was rather small, but fine since it was just the two of us. As I sat on the bed, it was actually hard! Yay!!!! I can't STAND soft beds and rather sleep on the floor! Haha no joke! Then my fiancé went into the restroom and suddenly he tapped on something glass sounding as I was turning ing on the tv..... I noticed there was a curtain by the bed, so I pulled it across and lo and behold by the bed was the shower and just a curtain the person from the outside of the shower could open/close as they please..... hee. We also had a mini fridge in the room along with a desk and chair. We had planned on staying one night, but got inside LA, and we figured we'd extend our stay. Upon doing so, we went downstairs the next day and asked if there was a deal if we could stay 3-4 days, and sure enough there was!!!! It's always great to see what happens once you ask! Hee. We got a larger room with a corner room location, I forgot the room number, but the restroom was larger and had a separate wall between the toilet and shower area, so if someone was in the shower, someone else could use the toilet and not be seen. This longer hotel room also had a chaise lounge chair and a better view of their downtown area, granted a lot of the places have closed. Overall, I honestly loved our stay here! It reminded me of a county version of The Fairmont SF! They constantly played new aged country music in the lobby! Then on Fridays and Saturdays there was a live band or singer in the bar area! I love how they had a community aspect to the hotel with some local live entertainment!!! My fiancé also loved watching The Knicks play on the bar tv with other people at the bar! Hee. Oh and they had an adorable coffee shop that made Ready To Order items downstairs too! See my review at Farmacy Cafe, but too freaking too! Country SHREK! Hee We will definitely be back again!!!!!

The Bottom Line (TL;DR) -- While this hotel offers an easy…read morecheck-in process and convenient parking for road trippers, the severe cleanliness issues, unstaffed front desk, and the complete lack of EV chargers ruined our stay. Do not expect the level of quality or convenience the high reviews suggest. The Highs (The Good) -- Frictionless Check-In: We received an email the day prior to fill out our information, which made the actual front-desk check-in incredibly quick. I also appreciated the easy upsell option to secure a 1:00 PM late checkout instead of the standard 11:00 AM. Easy Parking & Unloading: Parking was abundant, which is a massive relief when you are traveling in a larger vehicle. We booked the 1 King Bed Suite, which was conveniently located near the entrance. Loading and unloading our luggage was a breeze through the large back doors. Modern Guest Laundry: They have Speed Queen washers and dryers that connect directly to a mobile app. Not having to hunt for loose change or quarters on a road trip is a huge win! The Lows (The Bad) -- Misleading Amenities (No EV Chargers!): The hotel website explicitly listed EV charging stations as an amenity, which was the main reason I booked this specific property after driving nearly 500 miles. There are zero chargers on-site. As an EV driver, I felt completely misled and this was a huge inconvenience. Unacceptable Cleanliness: The room was barely vacuumed. My toddler actually picked up a discarded clothing tag off the floor, put it in his mouth, and almost ate it. We also found leftover crumbs scattered around, and finding hair on the toilet proved the bathroom wasn't thoroughly cleaned at all. Strange Bathroom Setup & Towel Shortage: We were only given two bath towels (most hotels provide at least four standard). Worse, the large bathtub in our suite had absolutely no showerhead. While fine for bathing a kid or soaking, it was incredibly difficult for an adult to move around and actually get a full, clean rinse. Dark Rooms: The lighting design simply does not match the room size. Even with every single light flipped on, many areas of the room felt very dark and shadowy. Unstaffed Front Desk: Whenever we approached the front desk during the night hours (on 3 different occasions), we had to wait 5 to 10 minutes just for someone to appear. A simple call button is desperately needed for quicker assistance. Lack of Security & Noise Control: There were kids running around the halls late into the night, causing a ton of noise. One even ran right into me while I was unloading the truck. They were very rude, but the real issue was the hotel's complete lack of staff presence or security to manage the disruption. The Verdict -- Overall, I do not recommend the Hourglass Hotel. In an area like Bakersfield where there are plenty of other options nearby, I highly recommend looking elsewhere. Do not be fooled by the high ratings, like I was. Hopefully, this review helps you find a better spot!

It's a centralized location, walking distance for restaurants. But I can't say I was happy with the stay. Meh. Unfortunately there were a few issues. To start, our keys didn't work upon check in, so we had to run back downstairs to get a new set. The showerhead was disappointing as the water pressure was subpar and the settings also left something to be desired. We did not have maid service for over 8 hours on Saturday which posed an inconvenience for our schedule in the afternoon. There was a clog in the shower/tub drain, and one of the light bulbs in the room didn't work. There was a nearby train which could be heard in the room. On the plus side, they did have some car charging stations in the parking lot for a fee (ugh). Nothing much stood out about the staff, either in a good way or bad way. We weren't in the room enough for these things to derail our visit but the overall experience left something to be desired.

During a stay in late February 2026 (Room 432), I encountered live roaches in the room and checked out immediately (2 days into a 4-day stay). That alone was bad enough, but what followed was worse. At checkout, I asked the front desk clerk, Lydia, if this had been reported before and was told it was "not the first time." I expected management to follow up, but no one reached out. After multiple attempts, I finally spoke with the manager (Cal), who told me the issue was not isolated and blamed their pest control vendor. He also said he had tried to contact me but didn't have my number, which didn't make sense given that my contact information is provided at check-in. I tried to resolve this through IHG Diamond Services starting January 30. While they initially responded, the case stalled while waiting on the hotel. I eventually escalated to executive-level review and never received any response at all. Nearly two months later, there is still no resolution. I travel frequently for work, stay at IHG properties often, and don't write reviews like this lightly. A serious room issue is one thing, but the complete lack of follow-through and accountability is what stands out. Disappointing experience overall.
