    Small room cramp corner

Touring the sites of Oakland California until late. At around 11P made a last minute reservation at this Holiday Inn. Big mistake. One of the most disappointing Holiday Inn I've ever stayed at. The complex and rooms are old and in serious need to updating. Rooms are very small, musty smell and just overall feels dirty. What made this experience even more uncomfortable was the RUDENESS of the staff. Stayed the night and left early.

    Folded towels.

I haven't stated in a Holiday Inn in a while, so it was great to try this hotel. It was a nice family hotel. The staff accommodated my room request and was friendly during check-in. I asked for a room as far away from the freeway and elevators as possible and they found me a good room. The tub and furniture were a little worn in places, but it was well equipped with a smart TV, microwave, fridge, and coffee maker. They even had a nice clean remote control! The bed was very comfortable, had nice new sheets, and plenty of pillows. They maid even folded the towels and toilet paper into bows and patterns etc. it was a nice touch. The hotel has a pool, fitness room, hot tub, and restaurant on site. The property was clean and seemed well maintained. My only warning to travelers is that this hotel is a little close to the freeway. If you're a light sleeper, bring ear plugs.

    Sumo Sized Bathtub

Yup, 3 stars is right. Cons - bathtub was big enough to fit 3 sumo wrestlers at once. I slipped and fell into the tub somehow and one finger was swollen. Main issue is the friggin thing that you need to pull up to make sure the water goes down. Ours was broken so we basically had to shower with all the water at our feet and when done, stick our hands at the bottom to pull thingy up so water goes down. Plus the handle looked like it was built in the soviet union era. I had to pull first and then turn left or right? That section needs to be updated like a mutha. Also, the walls are thin...Someones baby was crying all night next door while we were watching a movie. And the bedframe makes squeaky noises if you make the slightest move left or right. Imagine if mom and dad decided to do some other activity to relax after the baby went to sleep. Pros - That indoor pool was perfect and I would come back just to enjoy that again. The breakfast with the eggs and cheese with french toast and a side of some fresh fruits; thats what Im talking about!

Front desk lady was very rude, yelled at our kids, and was distracted on her iPad instead of helping guests. Unprofessional experience.

Also, the special menu items didn't have their prices listed, but since the regular menu items were very reasonably priced, I thought the special menu probably was just slightly higher. I ordered a Cookie Butter Latte and a cappuccino, paid in cash with a $20, tipped $2 and had $3 and some coins left. Didn't really think about it until we've left - Cappuccino was $4.25, meaning that the Cookie Butter Latte was a $10 drink. Apologies but personally, it didn't taste like a $10 drink. Probably won't go all the way there again.

I always wanted to visit the house, but it only recently opened to the public has a house museum. I was fortunate to be able to join a small group for a private tour. As soon as we were met by a Docent in period dress the mood was set. Walking over the bridge to the house she started to tell the history of the Glass Family and the Valley as it was in 1877. Stepping though the door is really a step back in time. The nine room house is decorated as it would have been when the Glass family lived there. Everyone of the nine rooms was clean and not a bit of dust could be seen on the many knickknacks that the Victorians adorned their homes with. Everything in the house is original to the period. While the rugs, wallpaper, and some of the fabrics on furniture are new, they are all period reproductions. The knowledge that the two docents, Pat and Kim, shared was amazing. In addition to the story of the Glass family and the San Ramon Valley, they peppered their talk with some CA. history. I came away with even more of an appreciation of women in the 19th century working in those long dresses There is a connection between the Glass family and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. You will have to take a tour with either Pat or Kim to get the rest of the story.

There are cracks on the walls and the shackles and rooftop is very old-fashioned but that just adds to its charm. The owners of the shop were so sweet. They offered water and snacks and are just plain genuine. They didn't put any pressure on us to buy or to leave, even though they were closing up. They seemed more content with people just visiting and gawking at the historical site. This place is also part of the ghost tour held during Halloween. Yup, there have been many incidents here. Like footsteps on the second floor, objects being moved, stuff like that. The staircase within the shop gave me a creepy vibe. It is made of old wood and it is narrow. Looking up to the second floor is eerie and uncomfortable. Maybe I felt that way because my friend just told me that the ghosts known to inhibit the Kottinger Barn can be heard walking up and down these very steps. **Shivers** Ohhh ghost stories give me the willys but I love them! The way the owners set up the back yard is cute. It's ambiance is old and used and also kind of sad and lonely for it looked like it was abandoned for years.
