We stayed 4 nights with 2 small dogs. We booked a one-bedroom room with extended coffee area (but not a kitchenette). The room was spacious and clean. The staff was delightful. Breakfast had a good variety of hot items. 2 working elevators, so limited wait time. The downside was a limited dog walking areas. Pluses were walking distance to 2 fast food restaurants and one convenience store. Strange that the fire pit was not activated, so a cool September evening could have been nice to sit outside. If the pool is closed down, it's time for the fire in my opinion. I will absolutely book here again. read more

Not our first time staying here but it definitely will be the last. When we arrived, we quickly noticed that the bathroom was dirty (it seems like it was quickly wiped down with a wet cloth), stubble in the sink, hair on the ground, the hand soap was empty, the door deadbolt didn't work, there was a random spot on the comforter that looked questionable (like someone wiped their dirty food hands on it), pillows had stains on them, people were slamming doors until midnight and the room smelled like dirty feet that no amount of Lysol could get out. The ONLY plus of our stay and the only reason I'm giving 2 stars was the kind gentleman (8/8/24 in the evening) at the front desk who gave us extra blankets and refilled our hand soap for us. As an IHG member who travels for work, this is my least favorite hotel I've stayed in! Super bummed to have to find a new place. read more

This is my first hotel stay post Covid and I have to admit I didn't expect much. I was pleasantly surprised at every aspect of the hotel. Polite and professional staff at the front desk and at breakfast. Everything from the lobby to the room was amazing. Staff wore masks, modern, new and clean. It felt like a brand new hotel. Room was very clean. Good price. They offered a rewards program at check-in and it got cheaper. The pool was warm and very clean. The hot breakfast was a nice touch. I think this is the same hotel near the casino. We got the suite with 2 large queen size beds and good out sofa. Checked in Wednesday night and will be leaving tomorrow ( July 5 the ) morning. Pro: The staff was professional and friendly. The breakfast area nicely decorated with plenty of tables and complimentary with nice selection of fresh food to choose from. Room was amazing and clean. One of the best hotels I've stayed anywhere in USA. Everything worked great: toilet, tv and lights. And had a small sink with microwave, mini fridge and coffee machine. Plenty of towels and pillows Also view of nice size swimming pool. Con: Far from good beach, closest was Slaughter beach - great name if in a horror film. Walls are thin so can hear everything. Shower needs help (see pics) & all faucets seemed like they were two seconds away from falling off. Tub was gross. Husband had standing water as he showered. I noticed a glob of hair. He assumed it was from him & cleaned it out. I did not have standing water in my shower. The hair was not his. *vomit* No, really, I almost puked. Live & dead bugs in the room. It's like they didn't even vacuum. Comforter had a nasty stain. If it hadn't been midnight & if we hadn't been exhausted with an even more exhausted toddler, we would have gotten a refund & stayed somewhere else. Lobby was great, especially with the "bar" of outlets for computers/electronic devices. Too bad they haven't put that kind of money into improving & cleaning the actual rooms. Pretty nice place. My family was traveling with my brothers' family and he was 15 minutes ahead of us, so he checked us into both rooms #508 and 509. We pull into Holiday Inn and head immediately to the elevator and notice floors 1-4. After a few minutes of being confused, we realized we were in the wrong hotel. Apparently both Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express and Suites are located on the same road, just a mile or two apart. We finally arrive at the right hotel and the interior lobby looks much better and newer. The staff told us it was renovated not too long ago. We get to our room and it's equally nice and clean. The wall thermostat didn't really seem to work, so our room was pretty cold. The next morning, I noticed my brother's room had the thermostat controls on the HVAC unit itself. Maybe we did it wrong. Even though I dislike the wastefulness of Keurig coffee makers, it was kind of nice to see this place have them in every room. I believe that's the first time I've seen that at a major hotel. I hate that the pool was already closed for the season. A week after labor day is still perfect weather for a dip in the pool. Breakfast is exactly what you would expect from any other Holiday Inn. Overall a great stay and wouldn't mind coming here again. read more

This is a solid four stars, wish yelp had a four and a half. The hotel was great after being on the road for twelve hours. It was clean, the staff were great, the price was right, and parking is easy. Free breakfast to boot (not the best but food). This was a welcome respite from the road. The room was two queen sized beds and looked to be fairly recent remodel. Not much to complain about now if you are looking for a vacation spot, this is not it. But if you need a comfy room then this is your bingo. The only complaint is the tv was not that large. read more

After a long drive, we checked into this hotel, ready to rest. After unpacking and getting settled in, I pulled the covers up and got into the bed. And felt some dust/crumbs around my hand. Then partially got out and noticed it was everywhere inside the bed, between the sheets and the covers. I was not wearing very much clothes so that was my mistake... thinking I could get into a bed at a hotel during a pandemic... thinking it would be clean. That was sarcasm. It SHOULD have been be clean. But wasn't. I am fighting mad and soo tired. Oh yeah, it's my birthday. So happy birthday to me. My present from this hotel is getting dirty from touching someone else's filth that wasn't cleaned up. The bed was made on top of the filth. Who does that?! We also found a pube and lint and black dust? Pictures were taken and attached. We told the hotel lobby guy who said all he could do was give us another room. And that we would have to talk to a manager in the morning. So we went to the second room. You better believe I checked everything. AND found further evidence this hotel doesn't do a good job of cleaning. The second room had cup stains on the nightstand and spots on the bathroom mirror (pics attached). Under normal circumstances, I might not have checked so throughly but I don't trust this hotel anymore. So now we're packing up to switch hotels. The hotel lobby guy was nice and apologetic but there's nothing to be done about how disgusted I feel about the non-cleanliness of this hotel. I don't feel safe here. I need to go shower in a different hotel ASAP. read more

I'm on my 16 hour drive and I stop in here about 0130, 12 hours in for a quick nap and shower. When I called to see if there was availability I could barely make out what the woman was saying but I did decipher "99 plus tax", Great! I'll take it. When I arrived the lady was courteous and checked me in quickly. The rooms were nice and the property was easy to get to along with multiple other hotels and stores along route 13. I removed a star due to this reason... at exactly 857 there was an abnormally loud knock at the door. Loud enough to startle my girlfriend to about 6 and 3/4" off of the floor and into a flurry to investigate what the ruckus could possibly be. As I sat on the throne enjoying my morning movement I overheard the cleaning services personnel ask "if we were still here". Aside from the obvious door locked/receipt still under the door, we did not check out of the room! This is not acceptable in a service industry, if it was check out time I would be okay with it, but it wasn't. Get this figured out Holiday Inn. read more

Not very clean at all. Every Holiday Inn Express I've ever stayed in is and was cleaner than this one. The toilet bowl was filthy. Found hair in the bed , shower was dirty with hair in it. Not a good stay will never stay here again when I come to visit my daughter in college. Period. For the money 340.00 it should have been better and the staff would not honor government discount because I secured over the internet. My husband and I booked an executive suite for our Valentine's weekend. We only picked this hotel because of the hot tub in the room. I had a middle of the road experience here. They are due for a renovation. Rust, lime stained sink and shower fixtures, nicks in the walls.... The tvs were pretty terrible. We had 2 in the suite with only one working remote. Things just need to be updated. The hallway carpet was stained as if by bleach. The drain to the tub needs to be replaced as well. You could hear the water seeping out. The bed was pretty comfortable. I slept well, but my husband did not. This is by far the loudest hotel we've ever stayed in. It was the sound from the pipes I suppose. It also sounded like it could be a washer maybe? It kept my husband awake whatever it was. The heater was my white noise machine. The employees were nice though. If you stay here in the winter months, wear a jacket to the generic breakfast. The elevator was freezing! If I had to go here again I would. I know of other hotels in the area that are better though. read more

Stayed in room 215 for 2 days. Originally I booked a king but front desk clerk thought the 2 queens had a whirlpool tub. Since I only have showers at home I eagerly agreed to the change, Alas the room had just a regular tub! Oh well, everything was so nice I could not complain. Okay here it is. I have never left a bad review in my life but this is how mad I am. 'm a traveling nurse and had two weeks reserved. Wasn't going to make it the first night because I was still driving, so I asked the guy at the front desk if he could change my check in day back one. So I repeated myself to clarify and he said "uh huh, ". . . So I check my reservations the day before to make sure they were still there, and guess what he did? He cancelled my whole reservation! So I'm calling the front desk for hoursssss and no one is picking up. I call IHG to get my points back because now I have to find somewhere else STAT, that's pet friendly. My IHG representative calls and calls and they can't get ahold of them either, so she has to get her supervisor to override everything. I've called and left messages and complaints with the manager but still no call back. So here I am jumping around hotels! The girl at night who comes on at 11 is sweet, and can actually do her job but the day crew cannot! read more

Arrived after midnight having driven several hours. Check in was fine & Terry was delightful. Room was outdated Carpets were with ground in dirt but ALSO loose debris, food crumbs under the table & collective dust around the edges of the room.I didn't address it that night b/c it was late & I'm sure housekeeping wasn't available. I brought this to the attention of the day manager he gave me 1/2 off my bill. My previous experience in another town was great so I thought I 'd try again before switching from HILTON to HI. My husband and I stayed here on 9/18 for four days. Literally after checking in and unpacking I was sitting on our couch of our executive suite (room 200) and I was bitten by bed bugs a row of three bites on my arm appeared. I immediately went down to the front desk who assured me that they would move us to another room and would quarantine the room until it was treated and inspected and that a manager would get in touch with me in the morning about getting us a credit for that night as well as give us an update on their findings. After not hearing from them I went back down to the front desk where another young lady assured this never has happened and would get their main headquarters involved and I would hear back from them by end of the day which once again I heard nothing. After checking out I reported to the incident to their main office who assured me I would here back from the location. I of course heard nothing once again. After visiting again on 9/2/2016 staying at another hotel not theirs of course we stopped by to collect a cooler we left their we were given a report of their findings which to me looks suspect and bogus. As you all can see from the attached report they went in two weeks after our stay and based their findings on a mere visual inspection. Yet on this report the copy of report available is not checked. It also has the inspection area as the bedroom yet it was the couch in the living room that I was bitten?!!! I would not recommend this hotel especially not this room! They are not thorough in their complaints from their guests. So sad for a hotel to have a four star rating and have this kind of response. Shame on this place! read more

Stayed there last weekend. Very nice and clean room. Staff was pleasant even when I checked in at 11pm. The breakfast was a standard continental breakfast. All the food was ok. Eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, bagels, and miscellaneous pastries with coffee and juices. Really good price for a clean hotel with breakfast. And only 1.4 miles from Dover Downs Casino. If I have to be back in the area, I will be staying here. Also, it was very quiet. There were a bunch of people staying in the hotel, but it was extremely quiet. read more

I booked my most recent stay with Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites through Petfriendlyhotels.com. A lot of other hotels that I have stayed in with my animals charge a rather large pet fee but, I am happy to report Holiday Inn is not one of them. I paid $10 for my dog and $5 for my cat. I had booked a King room but, when I got there all that they had was a double queen on the third floor. The customer service person at the desk was very kind and upgraded us (for free) to a suite on the ground floor. When you are traveling with pets it is best to be close to a door, it makes it much easier when you have to take them out in the middle of the night. I thought when I was given this room that it was going to be dirty or rundown because, most hotels that do take pets give people with pets the more rundown/dirty rooms. I was pleasantly surprised to find that our room was fantastic! It was nice and clean with plenty for nice fluffy pillows, a refrigerator and a microwave! It was also very roomy. The best part about our room was that we were right by the door! This Holiday Inn location does not have a restaurant but, does offer a Continental breakfast which is included with the price of your room. It offers the standard breakfast fare of bagels, muffins, yogurt, and coffee to name a few. The hotel is located within walking distance of McDonald's which is where we ended up for lunch. The location was really convenient if you are a parent or student visiting The University of Delaware or if you are going to Dover Downes. I would definitely stay here again! read more

Stayed here about a month ago for business. Sign up for the IHG Rewards Membership and you can get a discounted rate. I filled out my preferences online before checking-in. Usually in the past when I have done this on hotel memberships, they don't follow through with your preferences. I was pleasantly surprised when the staff actually did when I checked in. Front desk girl was super friendly and informative even when I checked in very late. All my preferences were fulfilled at the rate was very affordable. The room was great, as theirs always are. Definitely agree with Celtic. Hotel is very clean. I stayed in a standard room the first time & a double queen suite the second time. The beds were clean (I'm a bedbug searching freak!) and very comfy. Also, the staff is all super nice & my dog definitely enjoyed his stay. I sometimes stay at the Marriott Residence in, but end up paying double because of the nonrefundable pet deposit, but if you're traveling with a pet and are on a tight Budget, you should be perfectly fine at the Holiday Inn Express. read more

I was so impressed with the holiday inn it was nice clean and I was there two time in one week while out here in Dover Delaware. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The rooms are very nice and big. I enjoyed my one rooms that had a jacuzzi tub it was nice to take a bubble bath. It was like being a big kid again. All it was missing was the rubber ducky. I totally agree with the other reviewers. We have a lab/beagle mix and the $10 fee is such a nice respite from other places that charge ridiculously high rates that I doubt any sane person would pay. Basically, these hotels can call themselves pet friendly as they will allow pets. However, Marriott Residence Inns typically charge $100+ for a nonrefundable pet fee which is more than the cost of the room itself!!! The Sheraton nearby was charging $50 pet fee. I could not be happier with this hotel even without the reasonable pet fee. It is a 10yr old building yet is being remodeled to fit the new HI Express brand. Our room was clean and beautifully set up. The front desk person was extremely personably and friendly. The beds are EXTREMELY comfortable AND the pillows say "soft" or "firm" so it will suit the most discriminating head! The breakfast bar looks amazing. The front desk person informed us that they got a brand new pancake maker. I can't wait to try it out in the morning. It also looks like they have the typical continental fare: cereal, muffins and fruit. But, I think I saw eggs and cinnamon rolls. If it is anything much better or worse, I'll yelp about that. But, I'm thinking it will be a very good breakfast tomorrow. My only wish would be for an indoor pool, but at least I can enjoy the jacuzzi jets in my bathtub! UPDATE: Okay, I had my breakfast and it is the best continental hotel breakfast I've ever had. There new pancake machine was amazing. Press a button and 2 pancakes pop out in a minute as if there was a little elf in there flapping the jack. There was bacon, sausage, boiled egg and scrambled eggs which I didn't care for but surprisingly my picky mother in law liked. There was a warmed cinnamon bun as were other hotel staples of yogurt, danish, donuts, cereal (with skim as well as regular milk). They even had premade waffles and french toast. There were juices (apple and orange) and coffee with choices of creamers that included amaretto, irish cream and french vanilla as well as regular creamers. For the pancakes they even had sugar free syrup for diabetics like my mom in law. Would definitely stay here again!!!!! read more

I stayed at the holiday inn express and suites 4/11/14 to 4/14/14. I went with my husband for our 1 year anniversary. We had a great time and really enjoyed the hotel. We had a mini king suite. The bed and pillows was so comfortable. I have never slept in a more comfortable bed. We requested an extra pillow and got it right away. we had a sink, microwave and fridge, which came in handy. The bath tub was a hot tub. It was big enough that two people could fit in it at the same time and my husband is 6 foot so that's good. I do feel that the jets could have been cleaned better. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There is a free breakfast that includes turkey sausage, cheese omelets, mini pancakes and cinnabuns.They even had granola bars and yogurt. We only went to it once. The eggs were like the eggs from mcdonalds, sponge like, and they put american cheese inside the omelet, instead of cheddar cheese. They even had granola bars and yogurt. They also have columbian coffee 24 hrs a day, and it is awesome. We stayed 3 nights and 4 days and only paid $336.00 for a room with a kitchenette, king bed, hot tub, free breakfast and great service. I will definitely stay here again. read more
